I would like to share my experience of my first ever solo ride - A long and beautiful ride to Rann of Kutch.
I have planned this ride in my head couple of months back, I have been toying with the idea of venturing out on a long solo ride, for that I did read couple of articles here, xBhpians sharing their ride experiences which inspired me. I was all excited that I am going to kutch alone but on the day when I was supposed to leave, I was
bit shaken for undertaking such a long journey, that too for the first time. What held me together was that I knew the route I had to take and I know my bike (Hero Impulse) inside out, not that am a mechanic but I have maintained it myself and keep a very close follow up on her condition with the service center mechanic. I used to look up the highway on Google Maps from Mumbai to Kutch almost everyday in office till the D-Day 08/11/13.
I reached home from office at 12:30PM on 08/11/13, bag was packed night before and my bike was ready too; I just had to get freshen up and wear my riding gears. At 1:30PM, I left home and met few friends and finally left for journey from Hotel Fountain, Mira Rd at 3:35PM. Action plan was that I will ride around 300Kms a day since its my first solo ride, I dont want to get bored just riding or pressurize the bike.
1st stop- @Valsad to have a tea.
2nd stop - [MENTION=34867]AnK[/MENTION]leshwar to fill petrol.
3rd stop - @Baroda - Halt for night.
Next morning 09/11/13, I left for Bhuj @ 11AM after having a heavy sandwich.
1st stop - @Khambat town for tea n get little rest for bike as roads were bad.
2nd stop - @ A petrol pump - cant recall the location.
3rd stop - @salt-pans,wind mills on the way to Bhuj-Bachau highway
Reached Bhuj railway station at 8:30PM, there I checked in a decent place called - Odhavo Hotel. The owner of this place - Dharmeshbhai, he is a gem of a person. If you happen to be in this area, dont miss this hotel for its service n secure bike parking. Also there's a tea center next to it, they serve amazing tea till 1AM.
10/11/13 - Woke up late as I only had to ride 130Kms one way to Kalo Dungar & Great White Rann of Kutch. Moved out at 12PM - reached Kalo Dungar through sleepy village at the foot of hill and clicked few images and then rode back to chowki where I got the tourist pass for white desert; rode another 35KMs & there it was - The enchanting emptiness of white rann!!
Returned to hotel, filled with great joy of being present at such wonderful place! I still cant come to terms that I have been there unless I see myself in those images I clicked there. I followed the same route and on the way I halted at a hotel and there was this tiny shop where I got this - Hunting/Survival knife for self defence. On 12/11/13 by 3:30PM I was back at Hotel Fountain, Mira Rd, where a friend was waiting for me to welcome me back!
One thing I want to say is that through out this ride, there was not one instance where I was exhausted or tired; I am sure many bikers would share this feeling of untappable energy...I dont where it was coming from but then I got hooked on to riding...next trip made in 2 days - it was an Impulsive ride to Charminar..check my next post for that.
