  • [Photo Feature]: A Tale of 1200Km's Solo Ride

After meeting with an accident on my Yamaha Gladiator RS 2months back while riding in city here am back on Touring Mode. This time I have taken the route Vijayawada - Eluru - Rajahmundry - Tuni - Narsipatnam - Paderu - Araku - Odisha ( Rode through some parts of Odisha while going to Araku and went till AP- Odisha border ) - Vizag - Vijayawada

This was a 3day Solo Ride and i have done this ride on my Honda CBR 250R C-ABS and while on my way I have met Fight Back Biker of the Year 2013 (XBhp Name : frankpilli ) in Rajahmundry and a HVKian in Vizag.

I want to Thank Kishore Vejju ( Dont know his XBhp name ) and Ravi Varma ( XBhp name : ravi@17bhp ) for helping me in providing the necessary information about road conditions.

    Few Pictures from my ride.

                  Day 1

It was a 3days ride and I did it on 4th,5th&6th of this month ( December 2013 ). Initially this ride was not planned to be done solo Yup, My friend Sai Manish's RE 350Classic gave him a big time problem ( engine block broke ) so he had to drop out of the plan and Frankpilli had not got his leaves granted, So i was left alone and my mind was too confused whether to do it or not, coz after the accident my right shoulder started giving me serious pain when ever i ride through broken roads and for a longer duration but I finally decided to ride What may ever happen, As my mind was continuously itching me for a long ride.

Day 1 : Initial plan was to ride through Maredumillu via Sileru and reach Araku ,but had to drop out that plan as my friends who has done that route earlier suggested me not to take that route solo as its totally isolated area. So i decided to reach Araku via Narsipatnam - Paderu

Started from home early morning at around 5:40AM and started riding towards Rajahmundry as I had planned to meet Frankpilli there, so thought of not to stop anywhere till i reach Rajahmundry ( 200kms from Vijayawada ) so followed the same, I was aware that the roads from Eluru till Rajahmundry are not in good shape due to the cyclone that hit coastal Andhra few days back, So was riding at 70-80Kmph.

Took a snap after crossing Vijayawada

I was eagerly waiting for the Sunrise as it was too cold and i was not wearing any warm clothes nor even a thermal liner and finally here i see the Sun

After reaching Rajahmundry met Frankpilli and he took me to a hotel for break fast, where i had the most tasty dahi wada i ever had in my life.

And after spending some 1 hour time with him in discussing biking stuff and other things i started riding towards my destination. The roads from Rajahmundry - Tuni are very very well maintained and i was enjoying cruising at 80Kmph and after riding some distance took the below snap.

Tuni - Narsipatnam is an SH but it was scenic with green's all around. Found some nice location so captured

Thought i entered into Ghat section after seeing the below view but i was wrong there was a lot more distance to cover before entering into ghat section. So kept riding after capturing the below snap

Found some nice location and took a snap, the ghat section was not having good roads so i decided not to play around corners but i kept enjoying the scenic beauty which was around me. I don't know Y but i never got the feeling " Afraid " when riding solo through jungles ! I never tried to search for the reason too.

After covering the ghat section and before entering into Odisha stopped at a location to inquire from the locals regarding the road conditions, and the locals gave me good news saying that the roads from here till Araku are in very good shape. Those locals told me that from here on only Cell One network works and at some places i can find Airtel network, but to my bad luck am not using neither of the two networks.

I was not at all monitoring my location in GPS, in fact i forgot to do that since i was totally awestruck by the scenic locations i have come/coming across. I was just following the road and capturing snaps when ever i was coming across some nice locations.

After taking the above picture i learnt that i have to cover some more distance to reach Araku ( were i decided to halt for the night ) so started riding. Finally reached Araku at around 7PM. I was told by Kishore Vejju ( XBhp Hyd ) that they halted at a hotel named Ushodaya when they visited and i thought of staying at the same hotel as Kishore Vejju told me they have got some decent parking lot for bikes and he found it safe. But to my bad luck on inquiring at Ushodaya they told me that only suit rooms were available ( which are costing Rs1500/- ) and all other rooms were booked by some Telugu films industry crew members who came there for film shooting purpose. So after inquiring with the watchman at that hotel came to know that there is another hotel named Rajahdhani where i can find rooms at cheaper rates. So went there and took a room ( costed Rs700/-).

After downloading luggage at hotel room started hunting for a PCO booth to make some calls, but all the PCO booths were closed by that time. I was told by a shop guy that they sell Cell One sim cards without proof for around Rs350/- and i requested that guy to sell me that sim card for Rs200/- as I was left with Rs300/- in my pocket ( No one was accepting card at fuel stations, even for a full tank !! and even the hotel guys dint accept card , so i have to shell them cash which i brought along with me ) and i finally convinced him and took that card for Rs200/- .

This is how my Day 1 went...........

Beautiful pics. Last time, we rode from Lammasingi to Araku at night. When I was riding I could sense I was missing some great landscapes in the dark. Your photos now say what I have missed.

you have a talent for finding good back roads (b-roads). may be it is time for a pan-indian database of exciting yet less-known roads. with the 4-laning of most major roads, it is almost impossible to find good and smooth roads for corner-craving (esp for CBR250). I usually try to find roads running parallel to major highways (cars suck!).
