  • Tour De' South

This Trip was originally planned with excuse of attending my Cousins marriage in Kollam Kerala. The marriage dates were pushed about a year ahead but i never cancelled my plan. Infact, now i had the liberty to plan my ride properly and thats what i did. My first big tour, solo on my brand new Duke 390.

Kill the silence, tear apart the dark
The beast rips the road, hell yeah, i feel alive.

We did halt at McDonald outside Pune for a quick bite and were greeted by the sight of about 30 odd Harleys heading towards Goa with their macho attitude, leathers, babes, support van and the whole shebang.

that's one good roundabout trip bro.waiting for the ride report: speeds, suspension, the windscreen, mileage, niggles and main issues faced by the 390 when on a long trip.the small tank range is an obvious one.

Awesome ride mate.. Am also planning to ride to Chennai in few months when my dad gets his transfer.. When I started reading the words stuck to me are the 3500km in 3yrs, actually my friends told me that I should have bought a cycle since I rode only 5k in a year

                          Day 2 – Bangalore – Chennai

After a nice long slumber, I wake up to a sumptuous breakfast of Idli, masala dosa, sambar and that heavenly drink called “filter kaafi”prepared at home by Seetha (our host’s).
Udipi restaurants in Mumbai can go to hell now coz I know where to have the most lip smacking south Indian breakfast. The brilliant hospitality continued, discussing routes with the human GPS of South India i.e. Seetha’s husband Rajesh all this while sipping another cup of, you guessed it – “Filter kaafi”. Route understood, bags packed, drenched in sweat, luggage loaded on bikes and we bid good bye to the best hosts I have seen in about 5 decade’s (I’m 29 now).

Next stop BTM layout CCD to meet a few brother’s from xBhp Bangalore. Half an hour of meet and greet and promises to see each other on the road again and the customary “ride safe brother” later, we set out towards our next destination - Chennai.
The day was overcast but who cares when the road is like this.

The mountains/hill's here look very different as compared to maharashtra. Mostly rocks piled on top of each other. Beautiful is the word.

There's a fort on top of all that rocky mess.

Mostly uneventful except for a slight drizzle and 20 Km long chase by a bunch of local politicians goon’s not out of excitement of seeing us bikers but for satisfying their anger. The fight begins….

Bangalore – Krishnagiri – Vellore – Chennai is a beautiful stretch all the way to Vellore. The government clearly doesn’t seem to care about people who live beyond Vellore coz they forgot to construct roads. Broken patches, potholes the size of Lonar crater when seen from 20 miles away and mad traffic. I mean really, no sense of driving at all. Further down the road, a bunch of drunken goons from a local political party showed up when Abhijeet was trying to make his way past a truck and crawled close enough to trade paint. Incessant honking and hanging outside the car and yelling something in gibberish, Abhijeet moves out of the way only to get shoved to the side and being run off the road, almost. I see this whole madness and No sir, I won’t be a mute spectator so I squeeze that nincompoop off the road hard enough for him to want to kill me. “Beach please” I said, yenna rascala, u driving Indica, and me on my 390. I laughed, played with this fool as he tried to catch me desperately, and push me off the road. Then sense prevailed; saw a long straight empty patch with no street lights and pitch black darkness (the kind that Batman likes to emerge from). Now it’s me and the Indica side by side, and right when he’s about to crash into me, I hit the brakes, ABS working seamlessly, switch off my headlights, shut my engine and just stop by the side of the road and leave the moron wondering where I disappeared. Abhijeet meets me all charged up as he was ready to jump off his bike to save me from the goons. Just knowing that he would do that for me strengthen’s my non-existent love for him. This little guy has some spherical man part’s(Not sure if I’m allowed to say balls. Depends on which one’s you think of when I say balls). All this drama and a few hundred more potholes later we meet Sagar Banerjee and Ezil Kannan from xBhp Chennai. We chalk up a plan to ride to Mahabalipuram together and then we go our separate ways. Awesome! We reached our halt for the night at our host Anamika Saha’s humble abode. After a well deserved shower, i freshen up only to see a table full of food and all of it is meat (Chicken, mutton, fish and some greens by the side). Hooray. What more are you waiting for; no more action for the day, with a full stomach, I hit the bed and start dreaming about what’s to come next. Finally the sightseeing begins. Hereon, there will be more pics and less of this annoying yapping that I called a travelogue so far.

                          Coming up..
