  • Solo ride from chennai to yercaud !

Planning for a long ride on a bike started ever since I started earning. Chennai to kodaikanal was always my plan. Since this was my first long ride and I had no co-rider I did not want to take any risk so I chose chennai to yercaud with just one night stay. XBHP’s travelogue helped me a lot to build up the determination in myself that 320 kms ride is not so hard.

I wanted to reach yercaud before afternoon. So, planned to start in the early morning. Packed my dress. Made sure that Ive my gloves, helmet, sunglass and rope to tie the bag on the pillion seat.

    Route used: Chennai Guindy -> Sriperumbudur -> Vellore ->Vaniyambadi -> Tirupattur -> Harur -> Kuppanur -> Yercaud

    Vehicle – Honda CBR 150R
Total distance covered – 710 KMS
    Mileage – 35 KMPL (Expected more )

Day 1(Feb 20th): After a sleepless night, woke up at 4a.m and got ready. Did a reset on the trip meter and started the bike at 5 a.m.After riding for 3 kms, I realised I forgot my wallet though I had it my list of important items. OOPS.. !! Went back home and collected it. Thought myself that WHAT A OPENING I had. I wasn’t completely out of sleep, continued the ride slowly, maintained a speed of 80-90 kmph and crossed sriperumbudur. Till then I was having my bag on my shoulders.
After crossing sriperumbudur, tied the bag on the pillion seat. Thanks to CBR designers for giving a provision to hook the rope below the seat. It was so convenient

Took NH 4 from Sriperumbudur to vaniyambadi via vellore. The roads are 6 lanes and simply awesome with few diversions but that wasn’t a prob. The weather was so cold and I was shivering. Reached jolarpet at 8 30 a.m. Took a tea break and continued. There were lot of speed breakers near this area, the roads were quite bad & its school time, the traffic was slow moving to cross tirupattur. Then the SH 18 welcomed me, I really loved to ride here, the roads were beautifully shadowed by trees on both sides. Stopped in between and took few snaps. There were few ‘S’ curves, did cornering and brought out the Rossi in me
Soon after I entered the ghat roads, saw a 7 ft snake crawling in front of me, got Goosebumps . And a lot of monkeys on the hills from kuppanur. Was not dare enough to take pics
Reached yercaud lake around 11 30 a.m. Then booked a hotel, refreshed and went for sight seeing.

at 6:30 a.m. En route vellore

Day 2 (Feb 21): I loved this day more than the day 1, because I did not spend much time in taking fotos. It was hardcore riding. I reached chennai From kuppanur (320 kms) in 4 and half hours including 25 (10+15) mins break in between.

Yeah, now I can see them.

A suggestion; get yourself a proper set of riding gear. They really help when needed. Do post more pics.

Vaniyambadi to Tirupattur road condition is far far far far better than Chengam to Uthangarai stretch.

Howz the Kuppanur - Yercaud stretch?

Is there any other roads available other than these (salem - yercaud & Kuppanur - Yeracud) ? Somewhere I heard there is a route for ppl coming from Dharmapuri. Any details about the road conditions?

salem- yercaud is better than kuppanur-yercaud bcos the roads are quite bigger...
kuppanur- yercaud roads are not bad at all.. and its more scenic according to me...

I dont think there is another route apart from these two... do share if u come to know..
