Day 2: Shrivardhan - Harihareshwar - (Boat Journey) - Anjarle

        Early morning pics in Shrivardhan..

        The place where we stayed..

        Typical konkan..

The road to the mango plantation..

        I want mangoes..

        So many of them..

Sometimes the best things are the most simple ones.. Breakfast..

After breakfast, we went to the old port of shrivardhan where the fishing takes place..

Vacation for us, business time for them..

        Fishing boats..

Delicacy for many.. I could barely stand the smell..

        Waiting for free fish..

The beautiful road.. En route Harihareshwar..

We had missed the boat.. We spent almost an hour here waiting for the next one..

Experimenting with the camera, a perfect solution to kill time..

        The ferry..

Anyone watched the movie "Wild Hogs", where they throw away the cellphones at the beginning of the road trip.. One day, I'm gonna do that to my friends..

        The boat journey..

I always give the local brands a fair chance..

After the boat journey, the ride resumed towards anjarle..

        We decided to go down..

And here we were.. In the middle of nowhere..

Something like this on a hot summer afternoon, you can't resist a dip..

        Natural hangers..

Time for some fun.. Burnout for te sole purpose of splashing water on the guy standing behind..

        Err.. I over did it..

A swim for us, a short wash for them..

        The sinking doctor..

        and it's imitation..

The last ride.. It does make you a bit sad..

        So let's do something crazy..
        Step 1: Stand

        Step 2: Balance

        Step 3: Jump

        Step 4: Happy

        Cheers,
        Pranav

Re: The last ride: A short Konkan escapade

                Day 2 continued..

After the refreshing dip in the water for both the bikes and the riders, the destination for the day wasn't far.. The road continued alongside the sea and it was a pleasurable ride in spite of the scorching sun..

We reached anjarle in the afternoon..

                A veggie delight..

                Fish..

Nothing like a nap under the trees after a hot day of riding..

                Sunset on day 2..

                The last sunset..

                18380 ft at 0 ft..

A good thing about konkan is that your taste buds are always satisfied.. No matter what food preferences you have, you'll always find something..
                Before..

                After..

After the bellies were stuffed with local delicacies, we went our for a stroll on the moonlit beach..

                Cheers,
                Pranav

                          Day 3: Return home

                          The bike parking

We visited the famous "kadya varcha ganpati" (the ganpati on the cliff) in anjarle..

Found these steps going down the mountain.. Followed them for a while with nothing exciting happening..

                          Kokam.. Cheers..

                          Along the coast..

The famous Anjarle beach from the hilltop..

                          Me..

A nice view point on the way to karde beach

                          Suvarnadurg fort in the background..

By the time we reached Karde beach, it was quite late and the dolphin safari was over.. Since the only reason we went there was the dolphin safari, we had no reason to stay there.. We decided to leave the beach and return to Pune via Kashedi ghat..
And what a road it was!!!
Freshly laid tarmac with nice curves.. Pure cornering fun.. No photos, no videos.. Just riding.. I had visited Kashedi ghat a few times before in the rains, when it is at its best.. However, riding in summer had its own advantages.. Dry road with little to no traffic.. That was Jerez MotoGP weekend.. We missed watching the race, but we were having our own MotoGP weekend with such superb tarmac.. I tried to catch up with the 2 pulsars initially and eventually gave up.. We re grouped at the end of the ghat.. All of us were grinning ear to ear..

Just before the ghat to Mahabaleshwar, we came across a small dam..

Soothing sight on a summer afternoon..

Once again, when you are riding in the May heat, this is unavoidable..

                          Peace..

After a refreshing swim, we were all charged up for the ride.. The climate was getting cooler as we gained height..

The ride through the dense trees..

Mahabaleshwar was crowded with tourists as usual.. We directly stopped at Mapro Garden.. Breakfast, lunch or dinner.. That has always been the place to eat..
These dishes never fail to satisfy me.. Mouthwatering, always, even though I've had them a million times..

Once we left Mapro garden, I knew it was just a matter of few more hours.. My bike was just few km short of 50k.. I had my eyes on the odometer half the time while riding.. Barely few km after reaching the NH 4, the odometer showed 50000.0

That was a moment of pride.. For the senior riders, this would be something trivial.. But I had cherished every single kilometer of it.. It had taken me just a few km once I joined the NH4.. The highway which I had ridden on countless occasions.. My favorite highway, yes even after riding on NH21 and NH1D, I like NH4 the most.. I had started my bike rides on this highway.. I was happy to reach the 50k mark here than any other place..

                          The 50k spot..

The ride continued with the nice khambatki ghat tunnel, the toll plazas where people in the cars stare at us because of riding gear or saddlebags, the usual traffic at chandni chowk, the new balewadi stadium to the left.. At the chinchwad exit where I usually just wave at my friends and exit the highway, I stopped and so did my friends.. Out of the 50k km on the Apache, the most significant ones had been with these guys.. So many memories.. The initial days when Lonavala and Lavasa were the considered big rides which had to be planned, then some slightly bigger ones to the beaches and ghats, then a couple of interstate rides and the the ride to the world's highest motorable road.. They had been always been with me.. I had shared some of the best rides with them.. I wanted to thank them for always being there, but I knew they'd hit me if I started being so formal.. I bid adieu to them and got on my bike.. My home was barely 6-7 km which never took me more than 15 minutes.. I took over half an hour today.. I couldn't speed up.. Maybe I wanted to spend some more time
                          in the saddle..

I was going to miss all of this.. The tiny things which people who do not ride would never understand.. Waking up really early even without the alarm clock, the sweet sound of engine idling on a cold morning, the cool air when you take off the riding jacket, when your riding speed changes according to the songs in your ipod.. The feeling of being free, open and independent..

I reached home.. My parents were surprised to see me home so early.. "Come home before nightfall", they had been telling me this since I started riding.. Finally I had managed to do that on my last ride.. The odo read 50094..

I got off my bike, took off my helmet and had one last glimpse of my bike.. I took a picture.. I have over a 100 gb of photos and videos from various road trips and this was the last one..

I had joined xbhp as a silent spectator few years ago.. Browsing through the tourer section, getting awestruck after reading some travelogues and feeling slightly jealous at the same time.. After a while, I started riding.. Managed to click some good pics and posted some travelogues.. Now with the bike gone, all I can do is return back to being a spectator, bidding my time till I get another bike..

                          Until the next time, Goodbye
                          Pranav

Thank you.. Even I'd like to think the same.. If things go well, I might have a road trip in America before returning

I'll remember the bird name.. I've come across many, and I can only differentiate between a crow and a sparrow.. :P
