Day 2 Patnitop - Srinagar 8th June 2014
Day 2 Patnitop - Srinagar 8th June 2014
Chenab River literally: 'Moon(Chan) چن River(aab)') آب is formed by the confluence of the Chandra and Bhaga rivers at Tandi in the Lahul and Spiti District and flows through the Jammu region of Jammu and Kashmir into the plains of the Punjab, Pakistan (source: wikipedia). View was awesome and a good place for 5-10 min photo break.
In the memory of Late Mr Gulab Singh Gouris died on Road accident here on 7th Mar 2004, RIP.
Road sign on the way - BRO is doing a great job here to maintaining the roads. Thanks BRO
Soon we crossed the Jawahar tunnel and Titanic View Point - The first view of kashmir valley welcomed us.
Just before Srinagar this huge nut somehow manage to bust the CBZ Extreme rear tyre. Still amazed to see this.
Reached Srinagar in late evening and after searching for almost 1 hour got a good House boat stay deal, Rs 2500 for house boat with 2bed room and 1 drawing room at Ghat No 7, Dal Lake and parked our bikes at Authorized parking near Ghat No 7. Owner name is Rafiq 9906708107 www.dallakehouseboat.in very decent guy and highly recommended if someone in looking for budget House boat stay.
Some pics of Dal Lake.

Day 3 Srinagar - Kargil 9th June 2014
Day 3 Srinagar - Kargil 9th June 2014
Started the day with a Shikara ride. Today I was required to get some work done in my CBZ so it took 2hrs, hit the road around 1pm and started moving toward Sonamarg. Roads are smooth between Srinagar and Sonamarg, we covered 80km in a couple of hours and reached Sonamarg around 3pm.
After having lunch at Sonamarg we started moving toward Zoji la pass. the first pass of our journey. Roads between Sonamarg and Zoji la pass is very bad, almost off roading and lots of traffic jam on the way. The good part was that we were on bikes otherwise we will be stuck like others for 3-4 hours but still it took 3 hours to cover 25km and reaching Zoji la pass as we were moving around 10-15kmph. Sun was almost down and it started getting dark everywhere.
Kargil was still far away. Started moving toward Drass, roads were mix of good tarmac and bad roads. we reached drass around 9:30 but could not find any place to stay, all the hotels were full. Without wasting our time we started moving toward Kargil. We missed the war memorial as it was night and hopefully will visit it soon some day, reached Kargil around 11. Roads were in very good shape, we were cruising easily at the speed of 70-80 even in night and I guess the best road after Jammu.Life is what happens to us when we are busy making other plans.

Day 4 Kargil - Leh 10th June 2014
Day 4 Kargil - Leh 10th June 2014
So after an long ride last night all set to go to achieve our dream Leh. After filling up the tank and checking the air pressure we were ready to rock n roll on hills. After few hundred meters or just a km or 2 from Kargil we got an army cafe, sound interesting so stayed for breakfast. Food was served by army staff and it was very reasonable and hygienic. I would recommend to everyone who is passing through this route.
