  • [Photo Feature]: Delhi to Kiratpur - in pursuit of peace

    Friends,
This trip was my first ever on my Bike, What began as a haphazard journey, undertaken in anger, prove to be a life changing one.

i believe every journey has a story. mine too began with a twist - and ended on a sweet note.
and when i say sweet - i am not referring to Diary Milk. I am talking about Bike Ride. is there anything sweeter in this world?

    DATE: 20th July, 2013
    TIME: 8 p.m.
GF: I really cant talk right now, my brothers are here. i am busy.
Me: Fine, just to let you know, i cancelled my plan to spend time with you tomorrow.
GF: Yaar, what can i do, they gave me a surprise visit, and now they are asking me to be with them the whole weekend
Me: fine, go ahead. But next time better tell them to tell you in advance if they plan on visiting you.
GF: i dont need your advice, okay
Me: you dont have to be rude, anyways i will talk later
GF: yeah i am being rude, and yes we will talk later

Yeah, thats my story. one relationship after the other, the same thing happens. i am rejected and family is always given a priority. A good thing to do, but is you are so bloody in love with family, why do you need me in your life? I believe in priorities, and if i am not a priority, then be it.

so at 8:15 p.m. i was at a close friend's place. Lakshay Malhotra - i call him tope bhau (remember tope from the movie "Kaminey" - the guy who gets into trouble all the time - yeah, thats what lakshay malhotra is all about. taking pangas with people and then hiding behind our back - letting us bear the brunt)

He asked me "kya huya bhai, upset lag raha hai"?
i had no answer to his question. I sat with him in his room discussing unnecessary things with him and his sister noni. My bike was downstairs, parked and looking sexy.

and i got an idea in my mind. An idea that would make my weekend bloody amazing.

    to be continued...

Re: Delhi to Kiratpur - in pursuit of peace

so, i go back home and i start thinking "is this right thing to do" "what if i meet an accident", "what if i died" and worse case scenario "what if i dont die and lose a limb or two". I call one of my friends who resides in Ambala and ask about the weather there.

          Time: 11:30 p.m.

Me: Aur bhai Neha, Kya haal hain?
Frend: Sukhi, itni raat ko kais yaad kiya?
Me: Yaar tell me about the weather, i am planning to ride my bike to punjab.
Frend: Pagal ho gaya hai kya? Its too risky.
Me: Neha, a man's got to do what a man's got to do. You just tell me about the weather as in is it raining?
Neha: Yes, it was raining an hour back.
Me: Okay, chal baad mien baat karta hu

and after this phone call i slept. I had no idea what would happen when i would wake up.

          DATE: 21st July, 2013
          Time: 6:30 a.m.

I am not asleep anymore. I am up and i have nothing to do. I am feeling totally empty and i need something big. Something i have never done before. Many of you would be thinking that a 400 km bike ride is not a big thing to do. But for me, it was a first. My first solo long ride.
First ride is always special. I still remember the first time i sat behind my 180 dtsi. Me, Mom and dad went to our local area dealer and mom dad fulfilled their promise. I was never a good scorer in School. But i had a thing for GK and Logical Reasoning. So when i sat for Shaheed Sukhdev College of Business Studies Entrance Exam - i told them that i will make it. They never believed me because students leave SRCC for admission in my college if they make it in merit list. So the day my admission fees was paid, i had told them that i want my Black beauty. Finally after one month i had what i always dreamt of. The next day i took it to college, all my friends were excited because their parents would never buy them a bike ever. Such a pity.
So i took a quick shower and left some money in my drawer before telling my younger brother that i will be leaving on bike. He never warned me, just told me to take care and go slow.

          DATE: 21st July, 2013
          Time: 7:15 a.m.

I left home 15 minutes back and i had reached ISBT Kashmiri Gate. The Bike did not have much fuel so i got a tank full done nearby. At that time i was just wearing my jeans and a t shirt. a bag was on my back and it had a couple of shirts and jeans - so it wasnt really heavy. Within no time i reached bypass and at that time there wasnt too much traffic. A sign board indicating left turn for Karnal made me smile. Finally i was going to ride to Punjab. And i took the Left Turn only to take a u turn to take the Highway.

Re: Delhi to Kiratpur - in pursuit of peace

                TIME: 8:15 a.m.

That ride is still fresh in my memories. This is the thing about your first motorcycle ride. You simply cannot forget it. Here i was, doing what i always wanted to do. Music in my ears and wind punching me in my chest as i touched 120 kmph. I admit i was foolish enough not to ride with any gear, but something at the end of the trip would change that forever (no guys, not an accident - something better).
So at a red light i came to a halt. It was the 'X' junction at Bahalgarh (Sonipat). Heavy police presence. I like to see cops working. managing traffic on that accident prone 'X' junction. a lot of DL and RJ cars were next to me. Now this red light is long (time). within ten seconds i was joined by three riders on Royal Enfields. A customary thumbs up followed and off i went the moment lights turned green.
It must be Samlakha where i saw 42 bikes led by a Harley Davidson!!! one after the other, they rode at around 60 kmph steady. I too slowed down and asked one of them where were they going. Off came a reply with a smile "LEH". That very moment i envied them. I sped off as i had to reach Kiratpur.

                TIME: 8:45 a.m.

I took a halt little outside of Karnal to have tea. As i was feeling hungry- i also ordered a tandoori paratha with strong tea less milk. there is a thing about food when you are hungry. It tastes like god himself cooked it for you. So i was enjoying the meal and simultaneously making a new playlist on my phone. All things done i went back to riding the bike and i decided to push it this time so that i check if the Beast stands upto the name i gave it or not.

                TIME: 9:00 a.m.

I was back on my bike and i was hell bent to test it. I wanted to test the speed and the acceleration. It had never been done before on this bike. It had been 6 months since the purchase and i thought it was the right time to do so. But again i must apologise for doing so without wearing any protective gear. Now when i ride wearing all that, it takes my confidence to a different level altogether.
I rode like there is no tomorrow.
as they say in punjabi "Jaandi gaddiaan, chal pechhe... jaande truck, chall pichhe" I burned the roads. the acceleration, the speed. That day - i decided i will never buy any other bike than Bajaj. Ever. Bajaj earned my respect that very day. Not even for a second i felt like bike was going out of control. At one point, i was racing with a fortuner!!! I even gave stiff competition to a 5 series while accelerating from 0-100!!! never before i had thought i would be enjoying it this much. Within no time i reached Ambala and took the Ambala-Chandigarh Highway. the top speed was 135 kmph.

                TIME: 9:40 a.m.

I took the under road to Chandigarh and my speed run continued till Zirakpur where i thought i should stop for a while. The actual reason was that i wanted to use the washroom.
So i stopped the bike at McDonalds. I instantly knew i was near Chandigarh. Bful girls in Mercs and BMWs and Guys in Thars and Safaris. Amazing view. I love watching girls drive SUVs and it was a dream come true as the moment i parked my bike, a girl parked a Land Cruiser next to my bike. and she was from heaven. Words cant describe how hot she was looking.

I went inside, used the washroom and ordered a Iced Tea. i enjoyed Iced tea while reading newspaper and within 15 minutes i was back on my beast.

                TIME: 10:15 a.m.

I reached 'The City Beautiful'. As i entered i was greeted by CRPF and ITBP Zonal HQ at Hallo Majra (headed by I.G.P.). A customary salute in front of the gate (i respect the armed forces of India - maybe bit too much) and i started moving further towards Tribune Chowk. This chowk or roundabout marks the unofficial entry point of the U.T. of Chandigarh. Went straight slow as traffic and a lot of presence of Cops slowed me down (actually its good to drive slow in urban areas). Took a left from Marriott and i started enjoying riding in the city. I simply love chandigarh. And god willing i will be moving to chandigarh in some time.
Near the District Courts i asked one of the cops about the way to Kiratpur. He was a tough built guy - a middle aged sardar with quite heavy well built body and big moustach. Basically kind of guy people would fear. He was as polite as anyone in this world could get. Quite a contrast. He told me the way and i followed the directions.
                Chandigarh - Kharar - Kurali - Rupnagar
The drive was uneventful as i had lost track of time. Add traffic problems and hot weather, i stopped taking note of time. I stopped for 5 minutes Canal colony @ Rupnagar. Just to enjoy the view from the bridge. River was almost dry. but still i loved looking at it. Tere is something about Punjab and its land that i really cant explain. It moves my soul.
