Re: Rides in and around Goa

Ok, as this thread looks untouched since some time thought of adding some of my stuff here.

There is this beautiful road in Canacona. If your coming from Panaji its on your left, just after the turnoff to Shree Malikarjuna temple, marked by a forest department checkpost. Its one of the most scenic roads to ride in south Goa with very sparse traffic and nature to give you company. However before you get there, you pass the Karmal ghat which is noted for its heavy commercial traffic and saline trails left on the road by fish trucks specially during early hours.

Like stated earlier in this thread, the destination may not matter, the ride is of prime importance. There is no destination as such but you do get the Bamanbudo waterfall on the way, the famous Netravali waterfall(trekking required) and lake at some point and a bit further on the left the historical Usgalimal rock carvings. I have not been to either of the latter places so have no comments or pics to share you.

Most of my rides are solo and I plan to keep it that way. So you want find any pics of me
Here are a few pics shared. They might be less than even the number of fingers on your palms but please bear that's all I could get. Sometimes when im into ride I cant even bother.

    Where: Here

Distance: From Panaji is roughly about 75km

Best time: After rains is spectacular because of the lush greenery

^^ I had taken my car on some of that route last month, was actually a pleasure compared to the chaos up north, some really stunning views.
Beware of Bread, don't say I didn't warn you!
More than 98 percent of convicted criminals are bread eaters !
Statistics show that more than 75 % of violent crimes are committed within 24 hours of eating bread !
Bread is known to be extremely addictive. Subjects deprived of bread and given only water, actually begged for bread after just two days !
Bread has been proven to kill. Scientists have now uncovered alarming evidence that 100% of the people who eat bread will eventually die !

        Beautiful and inviting tarmac.

Re: Rides in and around Goa

                Well here's another one.

Now this is something of an offbeat location and involves a bit of offroading from your side. This time too situated in the calm of south Goa but near a beautiful village called Sarzora. This spot I had lightheartedly heard of and went in search of. After a cumbersome search, found it and was well worth in the end. That made my day. Now I don't know how you could put it as there is no beautiful tarmac or twisties approaching it but you could surely add it to one of your trips around.

Now I've added something offbeat as I believe offroading in maybe once a while can greatly improve control over your bike. I mean you get to know your traction limits and master your skills better on dirt.

Speaking of the place, it looks like some old quarry which kind of accumulated water. If your riding from Sarzora to Gudi, it's on your left through an unusual turnoff. Nothing great as such but the views are mesmerizing.

Here are some pics I'm sharing and most of you would guess by now that I do not use a pro camera. Yes your right but these are my best efforts through the hardware I'm having so guys hope you don't mind.

                Where: Here

                Distance: About 40Km from Panaji

Best time: Any time of the year. Rains might give you a good slushy experience

I hadn't checked XBHP for some time now so that's an excuse for missing out the posts. I second you on the beauty of the countryside on the Canacona - Netravali route, it is terrific in the rains. I need to check out the Gudi -Sarzora place, looks interesting.

Note to self: update this thread more often

Beautiful thread. I had been looking for a thread like this ever since I got my bike last year, being from Goa myself. Actually it was amarme001's similar thread on vizag (in which he mentioned this thread as his inspiration ) which got me here.

But how come the panaji- sanquelim- chorla - Belgaum route has never come up on this thread? Its literally a biker's paradise and in any case, Sundays see quite a bit of biking activity on this route. Beautiful scenary, winding roads perfect for cornering, excellent tarmac quality, relatively less traffic, lots and lots of greenery all these attributes are typical of this route. A few pictures of this route during the rains......

No idea how this route missed this thread. Have done this several times but cant find pics, good that you put it up. Its absolutely like a biker's paradise and in any case.

On Sundays it emulates a Lavasa, try to skip that day. Its awesome throughout the year but in rains the mist and all take it to a different level. Waterfalls are many a sight.

                            Cruising South Goa

The route taken was more a less outlining South Goa. Road travelled: Margao-Benaulim- Palolem-Canacona-Netravali-Selaulim-Chandor-Margao.

                            Where: Here

What you’ll experience: You'll be pleased to see, the interiors of Goa are so different from the rest of Goa we are used to.
Monsoons are not an off season. It's a season that's not like a tourist season.
All the way it’s a slow paced scenic ride and roads are narrow and well-kept.

Best time: Highly recommended during the monsoons.

From Margao take the road to Colva then ride the coastal route upto Cavelossim and later Velim. The entire coastal route will give you that quaint village feel and if it starts to drizzle, even better. Lots of good restaurants on the way too.

Once at Velim Church you take a fine detour to the road that runs parallel to River Sal. The busy and colourful fishing jetty nicely contrasts with the quiet surrounding villages. Soon after the jetty you can ask anyone for directions to the Betul lighthouse at Baradi.

Now head down South and you'll get some of the best beaches in Goa all one after the another. The roads are narrow and in good shape and you'll be happy you're in the monsoons, no picnickers hanging around so enjoy the exclusivity.

Shortly after the bridge take your first left to catch the NH66 (NH17). Once on the highway on your right is a road marked by a forest department check post. Take this road through Netravali Wildlife upto Selaulim. Had done this stretch earlier but the monsoons as usual just made the place look different altogether. This is one of the roads in Goa that truly reminds you of some South Indian routes where you ride by beautiful vegetation and huge mountains. The stretch feels rural and too beautiful, hope it stays that way. Some pics along the route.

The road from Netravali to Selaulim via Uguem was equally stunning with plantations, forests and remoteness in itself. I didn't get to click any pics as I was too engrossed. It happens when you finally get to do good speeds continuously. The roads here are good and wide enough to support this. Once at Selaulim, you may visit the dam and garden or just head back to Margao through Chandor, a heritage place.

Really lovely thread. Good to read and see this part of Goa. Better than the usually crowded beaches. Keep it up mate.

Awesome thread and great pics. Cheers to Snehal and ign.dias. Very true about the Chorla Ghat route and Tambdi Surla route from Khandepar. These routes are mesmerizing. I have recently got a Domimar and the Chorla ghat route from Belgaum to Goa was a hoot to ride. There is a very green lush and open area which is located behind or in the end of Verna Industrial area. Will add some pics definitely.
Thanks for the awesome description of routes in South goa.
