      Small trip around Ponda

Here's one to keep the thread flowing.

This one's a small trip around Ponda district.
I've divided the route in parts and added some thoughts.

Starts from Borim - Adpai - Madkai: Narrow roads in ok condition, passing by a lot of houses. Would be enthralling to ride here during Chaturthi. Some places to see: Borim old bridge, Siddhanath Temple Borim
Madkai - Kundaim - Keri: Good scenic roads passing through forests and orchids at Keri
Keri - Nirankal: Good roads, lot of switchbacks and passing through forests at Nirankal
Nirankal - Shiroda - Rachol Ferry - Ilha de Rachol - Borim back: Includes a ferry trip. Ilha de Rachol is a nice quiet island

      Where: Here+Here. About 70 Kms

Best time: It's a short trip. Start early, end early

Ilha De Rachol. I like the fact that you can relax on these benches having a beautiful Church behind you, gushing water from a sluice gate on one side and boats and a still river before you

Well, expect more vibrant scenes in the monsoons.

Re: Rides in and around Goa

Was wanting to ask you how road conditions are presently for the following routes:

        1) Belgaum - Anmod Ghat - Panjim
        2) Belgaum - Anshi Forest Reserve - Karwar - South Goa
        3) Hubli - Yellapur - Karwar - South Goa

The smoothest and well paved roads are what we are looking at for a ride to Goa around Nov 16.

          1) Belgaum - Anmod - Panaji: Take the Khanapur - Bhimgad forest route (open 6am-6pm). Few bad patches at Bhimgad forest, Anmod - Mollem - Bainguinim - Panaji is a smooth road.
          2) Belgaum - Anshi - Karwar - Goa: Belgaum - Anshi not so great road surface passing many small towns. Anshi - Karwar - S. Goa, too good & scenic roads.
          3) Hubli - Yellapur - Karwar - S Goa: Good roads throughout and mostly scenic too & you can keep a good pace also but watch out sudden potholes at Yellapur Ankola stretch. This is the closest to what your looking for.

Re: Rides in and around Goa

As our ride to Goa is almost upon us, I wanted to check with you for the latest updates on road conditions from Pune to Goa. Smooth roads is what we are looking for.

              Nipani - Amboli - Sawantwadi - Mapusa
Belgaum - Chorla (any improvement in roads past Delta into Goa?)
              Anmod That

Looking forward to your reply at the earliest

A ride in the hinterlands of Goa

                Here's one to this thread.
From the hinterlands of south Goa to islands in the north. A day's trip with fantastic landscapes and roads to cruise on.

We start from Balli in south Goa till Bicholim in the north, covering Sulcorna, Dharbandoda, Valpoi and islands of Divar and St. Estevam. The route is divided in parts and I'll give you the comments and pictures.

                Where
                Here & Here

                What to see
I've not done any sightseeing but you can add any of the numerous waterfalls around Valpoi if it's during the monsoons, Mayem lake with its outdoor activities and some historical monuments around Rivona and Old Goa.

                Best time
                Anytime.

                What to expect
Goa's fun narrow roads and rustic atmosphere.
                So here we go.

                Balli - Sulcorna - Cuprem - Rivona
Fantastic route. One of the finest and scenic roads in the south. Entirely through forests with scant traffic.

A nice looking metal bridge near Rivona

                Savordem - Dharbandoda - Sancordem - Valpoi
Good wide roads, less traffic but plenty of mining trucks till Dharbandoda. Then you get some nice curvy roads through forests, truly enjoyable.

Many waterfalls can be spotted during the monsoons around Valpoi

                Bicholim, Sanquelim
A major road so expect some traffic.

                The Islands
Much has been said about the quaint little Divar Island in Goa. Go and see for yourself the large fields, rivulets, old houses, silent atmosphere.

Will be visiting goa for a month or two this November for Office work. And will be bringing my bike, so this thread will be a good starting point. Already added Tambdi Surla, Karwar and Netravali from Canacona to the list. Would be nice to know other riders. Cheers!
                    Will be staying in Panaji.
