  • Happy Birthday Dad

For one who has solved all my problems
For one who has answer to all my question
One who knows what is wrong and what is right
One who never gave up on me
    Thanks dad for being there.

This tale of one of those things to impulsively do for your loved ones. What I did was for unappreciated and the most important person in my life- DAD!
My brother in crime was my Duke 390 whom m I lovingly call "Duku

            Re: Happy Birthday Dad

Dad being an government offical was being transfered to all parts of India and we being quite young were restricted to Mumbai away from dad. While watching a video on youtube I stumbled upon a video, "how are you dad" which trigerred series of thoughts and flashbacks- first scooter ride to school, walk in park and those after dinner ice cream. With numb mind and moistened eyes I so wanted to see dad desperately. Dad was always the stronger person in family who never showed any weaker side irrepective of fact what he is feeling inside. As father - son never were close but shared a deep unsaid emotional connect.

I wanted to do something for dad and next week it was 30 September, dad's birthday. What more can be a good excuse to see him!! Planning started with google maps seraching for route, cals to KTM Ghatkopar for bike servicing (din wanted any last moment issues enroute Surat) and finally riding jacket will be put to actual use.

30 Sept being Tuesady I had to fall sick suddenly to avail leave for a day and do something for dad. Night berfore journey, Duku was all fuelled up, engine oil, brake oil and coolant levels were checked. Wanted to keep it surprise so had to lie to mom about outdoor training at Lonavala and have to leave early.
Couldnot sleep all night due to excitement since this would be first inter state ride especially on national highway (NH8). Hardly slept at 2 and got up at 4 all excited even before alarm clock could do its job. Early morning chores were taken care of and left for Surat at 5.15am I was so so excited but it was dark pitch black outside. Duku's headlamp did a fabolous job of lightening up road but things arent so easy in early morning with traffic from opposite lane blinding with high beam and nuisance of truckers spread all over the highway. Duku easily left traffic behind cruising easily at 100kmphr with no stress on engine at all. Trellis frame blesses dukku with awesome handling making it so flickable, conquering corners were like hot knife in butter- smooth and easy. Not to forget German Metzeler held roads like its lover- always be you.

NH8 or Mumbai- Ahmebdabad highway is silky smooth with scenic view right from mountains to rivers, village to city and experiencing these things early morning kicks up flashback of old memories with dad. Two hours later crossing Daman, it was time for pee brake as butt too refused feel anything both were in desperate need for relief. Parked up on side of road and took bio break. Moment you cross Daman, roads are straight and boring- no excitement all. As Surat was nearing, there was this feeling of anxiety creping up how will dad react when he finds out me on his door earlymorning. Past Sachin, heartbeat increased and i wanted to reach Surat as sson as possible. Saw a bypass before Surat city at GIDC towards Hazira via surat airport (where i wanted to go). 5 min later i was below dad's house. There was something which made me wait and take time before ringing the bell. Moments later i rang bell - no response, rang bell again (with every passing moment hearbeats paced) fianlly door opened and it was dad.
