Jeeps & Vans (4x4) were coming till Dhanuskodi town only, people were not venturing beyond that, on the way to 'Ram setu point' I was stopped by Coast Gaurd Hovercraft patrolling the area, they checked my ID (told me people illegally try to cross over to Srilanka and vice versa). On may way back I took a Van from Dhanuskodi town, saw some Bikers stuck in sand a KTM, an Enfield and Pulser felt my decision was correct. However a group of Enfield was confidently moving ahead. I would suggest only venture if you are prepared to get stuck or you have thing for off-roading or if you have a proper off-roading bike. Even though bikers were trying to follow marks left by Jeeps & Vans still there were marsh areas and some with thick layer of sand.
the bikes are allowed till the end-point, no one stopped us anywhere, not even for regular checking. Yes, we had to ride through the beach areas n that is fun. The Jeeps/Vans destroy the fun element n you also become time-bound by travelling on them. I would love to see your full blog.
