| continuation from the previous post History of the place: Google told me, it was Built by Queen Charushula of Pathuria Ghat King's family during the pre British era for around 9 lakh rupees & hence called the "Naulakha temple". Beautiful architecture, towering to about 146ft in height. This temple sort of binds a mystery around itself with various sightings of the past. 4pm: Evening was followed by a casual walk in Barabazaar of deoghar where you would almost get yourself items of daily amenities. If there is one thing you will have in plenty out here, it has to be the "perra" & "tilkut" shops, I learnt a few steps to make one myself, after all what is the purpose of travelling if you don't learn a thing or two(my opinion ) 1)) TILKUT A sweet item of rejoice(as per the locals, too sugary if you ask me) made of \\\"til\\\" & white sugar mashed together. 2)) KHOA-PERA Made from a combination of khoa & sugar, dry fruits & milkose & a few others, this one is a delicacy out here as there are atleast 200 pera shops accross this small town & almost all boasting of their unique taste I bought a kg of fresh made Khoapera & all those sweet tooth like me, I got it for 300rs/kg. & it was yummy with the aroma of elaichi, khoa & gurr(brown sugar) all in a mouthful of explosion. Then, I came across A man with ideals, a will to. change the nation & serves tea with passion. Meet Mr Ganga Raut. In bazaar of deoghar. Bdw the tea is amazing. If you visit this place definitely meet up this guy, a tough gun ready to plunge into a debate if the talks are about the nation or active politics. Evening welcomed me that day, in a not so welcoming dharamshala(read-cheap lodging, you can get a room for as cheap as 80rs per day) Having seen a few decades, this multi-roomed guesthouse was in the corner of a lake/take a bath/throw flowers & other stuff/wash your clothes/ and all the other uses known to mankind for water. I was kept at a distance while the reflection of the socio-treatment of the lake questioned me, while I sat quite, telling myself what can I do to make a change, Im only here for a day & thus submitted to the ever neglecting genre of "new civilization'', & joined forces with the ones for whom it questioned me. 27 November 2014 GIRIDIH -70kms from DEOGHAR -route- NH114A "Google, is a dear friend Im telling you, especially when you travel alone. So 'Google, told me to visit this place 60kms from the town, a place called "GIRIDIH''. 6am-the bike warmed up for a minute or two while I wore my gloves & requested my room to be kept vacant as I would return The jharkhand roads are good, I must say having ridden the state highway of Bengal enroute to siliguri (which will either break your back/crack your rim if not ridden sanely) urggh, my left indicators broke off enroute to Giridih. 8am-USRI FALLS- ROUTE-SH 13 from Giridih, (locals know the place well & if asked they provide accurate info) the main road cuts off to a small lane after about 15kms, the remote sight soothes your soul with the sight it presents, now here I really felt like camping as it was untouched by the world. TAGLINE SAYS --""ALL HUMAN LIFE.. CONSISTS SOLELY OF THESE TWO ACTIVITIES: (1)BRINGING ONES ACTIVITIES INTO HARMONY WITH CONSCIENCE, OR (2) HIDING FROM ONESELF THE INDICATIONS OF CONSCIENCE IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO CONTINUE TO LIVE AS BEFORE""- LEO TOLSTOY THE TWO STREAMS OF WATERFALL DENOTE BOTH THESE ACTIVITIES. TAGLINE SAYS--'''I FORGIVE PEOPLE BUT THAT DOESNT MEAN I ACCEPT THEIR BEHAVIOR OR TRUST THEM. I FORGIVE THEM FOR ME, SO THAT I CAN LET GO AND MOVE ON WITH MY LIFE" - FROM THE RECENT PROBLEMS I HAD IN THE LAST GROUP RIDE, THIS STREAM DENOTES THAT PART OF ME THAT LET GO. TAGLINE--''''IT TAKES COURAGE TO ENDURE THE SHARP PAINS OF SELF DISCOVERY RATHER THAN TO CHOSE TO TAKE THE DULL PAIN OF UNCONSCIOUSNESS THAT WOULD LAST THE REST OF OUR LIVES"-MARIANNE WILLIAMSON. REALISATION & TAGLINE--""WHEN THE LAST TREE HAS BEEN CUT DOWN , THE LAST FISH CAUGHT, THE LAST RIVER POISONED, ONLY THEN WILL WE REALIZE THAT ONE CANNOT EAT MONEY"" -NATIVE AMERICAN PROVERB ROUTE INITIARY- THIS PLACE OS APPROX 327 KMS FROM KOLKATA DIRECTLY SO IF ANYONE WISHES TO DO A ONE DAY TRIP, ITS THE PERFECT SUITABLE SPOT FOR YOU. But you can cover Deoghar & Giridih in a two or a three day trip. 11AM- After a fresh bath in the chilling water of the river usri, It was decided to take a short visit to the Parasnath ranges, as I have a thing with mountains & simply cannot resist the sight of them if they are in the close vicinity. Approximately 80 kms from the main town GIRIDIH. One may follow NH114A & then turn towards ISRI via which there is a straight road that leads to the Parashnath ranges with empty stretches on both sides of he roads. So if solemn ride is your thing then this road is exactly what is meant for you. TAGLINE-''THE SKY IS NOT THE LIMIT, YOUR BELIEF SYSTEM IS" THIS IS THE FAMOUS BAJRANG CHOWK OF GIRIDIH & ME POSING BEFORE LEAVING FOR PARASHNATH 1.00PM- It took me approximately two hours to return from Usri to Giridih & then reach Parasnath ranges. Reaching there I realised a few local bikes were ferrying pilgrims on the newly made pavement towards the top of the Shikharji temple, but the pavement for the ride was for only 5 kms out of the total 9 kms of the steep climb, I would however not suggest a person who is new to riding or hasnt ridden on the mountain roads to do this 5 kms stretch as it is a bit risky & the roads are really narrow & you have pilgrims already walking up or down the road so you have be very careful while doing this particular stretch, but I had my fair share of experience riding the hills on my last trip to sikkim & nepal so I thought why not give it a try. Well to be honest it was a one time thing & i may not try it again :P, anyway it was amazing with my loud FFE growling in the otherwise peaceful & calm environment. The climb was an ecstasy for me, I hired a local guide to be a pillion who took some pictures while I was riding. TAGLINE--"''NEVER LOOK WHERE YOU ARE GOING, ALWAYS LOOK WHERE YOU WANT TO GO"-XBHP That is me posing the beheld glory after conquering the self & fear. this was the last stretch of the 5km run up after that one had to trek all the way to the top. a suitable tagline fpr this temple on the Parasnath ranges- " Anybody who has been seriously engaged in scientific work of any kind realizes that over the entrance to the gates of the temple of science are written the words: 'ye must have faith' - Max Planck" I have copied this picture from Wikipedia for reference purpose only to show Shikarji. ETYMOLOGY Shikharji (Śikharji) means venerable peak. The site is also called Sammed Śikhar or Sammet Shikhar, meaning the peak of concentration because it is a place where twenty of twenty-four Tirthankaras attained a state of mokṣathrough meditative concentration. The word Parasnath is derived from Parshvanatha, the twenty-third Tirthankara to attain nirvana at the site. GEOGRAPHY Shikarji is located in an inland part of rural east India. Shikharji rises to 4,429 feet (1,350 m) making it the highest mountain in Jharkhand state. 3.00PM After spending some time in Shikarji, and absorbing the nature within me. I reflected upon my past, looked towards the future & silently closed my eyes in the present not knowing what the rest of this life had lay in front of me, ready to take it on as it came my way, create new memories-good or bad, make new friends, meet new people, travel, treasure life, eat different cuisines, find a true meaning to this function & follow what I had learnt till date & the most important of it all, be myself. I end my travelogue here, with a note for all my friends, foes, well wishers, those who read this, those who dont- "LIFE EXISTS ONLY AT THIS VERY MOMENT, AND IN THIS MOMENT IT IS INFINITE AND ETERNAL, FOR THE PRESENT MOMENT IS INFINITELY SMALL; BEFORE WE CAN MEASURE IT, IT HAS GONE, & YET IT EXISTS FOREVER"" THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR READING MY TRAVELOGUE ANAND |
