Ooty - Mangalore was a long way and we were to pass by Madikeri (Coorg). The lodges & home-stays were pretty out of budget for us hence we decided to move on till Udipi. We rode through Wayanad National park & some parts of Kerala , where we fled from a cop to avoid useless harassment and lost our way in the haste. We decided to take a 10 Kms shortcut which turned out to be a big mistake. ...From bad roads to no roads. Things overturned after Madikeri . The roads from Madikeri to Mangalore is nothing less than a RACE-TRACK. .... wide roads and high-speed corners ... thoroughly enjoyed the ride till Mangalore.

Tried out some yummy ice-creams at Pabba\'s in Mangalore as suggested by our friend Supriya.

We rode the few last kilometers to reach Udipi at around 12 in the night. ... Searched for lodges in google maps ... and soon got one and shecked in.

Tried to visit the beach in the night but was warned by a cop not to do so. hence we came back to our room and went to bed.

Udipi (Malpe Beach & Kaup Beach) - [Day 4]


This day was fun day ...got up late & headed for the beach. Dragged my bike (Galdiator) into the beach , played in the water , rode my bike through the shore line & enjoyed like crazy. Had yummy sea food as breakfast . Met few fishermen who were very friendly. .. They handed over a baby Ray-Fish to me which I left back into the sea after clicking a pic.
Got my bike pressure washed as i knew that salty water can badly corrode metal parts of vehicles.

Too much fun leads to tragedy ... so did it happen with us. The salty water damaged our phones & both our phones stopped working. Then rushed to the Samsung center and got them repaired. I was billed 400 bucks. Also due to the phone repairing , we got late to reach Kaup beach and could not take pics of the light house nor visit the light house top.

Spent some time at Kaup beach .. then rode back to our lodge to find out that my bike's tail lamp bulb was kaput. Searched for shops around and after a lot of searching , got one fixed that in place. Also replaced my bike's airfilter & lubed the chain . Had dinner and went to bed . Decided to wake up early and visit Kaup beach once again in the morning before leaving Udipi.

Udipi - Bangalore (Day - 5)

Next day , we got up early in the morning and got ready. Weather in coastal areas are always warm and humid so getting up early is easier. Soon we loaded out saddles and started for Kaup Beach. Within 30 mins we reached Kaup Beach as we remembered the route. we sat there on the bench till sunlight was visible. The light house looked beautiful. Soon we clicked some pics of the lighthouse and left Kaup.





We set the GPS and chose routes that were not national highways or sometimes not even state highways. We went through small villages & forest areas. Beautiful natural beauty. we stoped by a small restaurant to have breakfast in the middle of nowhere. The reataurant served very tasty hot Wada-Sambar & Fried rice & tea. Filled up our tummies as much as possible as our motto was always to avoid stopping.

Kaup - Kudremukh Forest range- Srimane Falls - Shringeri - Bhadra Forest (Day 5)

We rode through Kudremukh forest range , for which we had to take a permit at the gate. The forest range was amazing with butter-smooth roads in most of the parts and scarce traffic. We thoroughly enjoyed the ride. At one junction , we helped out a couple who were travelling in there car in finding out the route to Goa.

After the forest Cover ended , we rode through villages where we noticed a group of 3 bikers (2 Yamaha FZs & One TVS Wega Scooty) who tried to be Road-Side-Rossi :P



We let them go ... but soon over took them as the road became curvy , they could not keep the pace on the corners.

We were heading for Sringeri , but on the way noticed a diversion which said "Srimane Falls" , our instincts could not resist and we took the diversion , soon the roads became narrow with thick forest cover on both the sides.

We rode 13 kms to reach the Srimane Falls. It was one beauty. Thanked ourselves for not missing this out. We enjoyed the crystal clear water and spent an hour there. On the way back , lost our way .. and rode through the forest with no roads. .... But soon , hit the highway.



Then we headed for Chikmagalur and took the road that goes through Bhadra forest range.

After some time we came to the Bhadra Coffee Shop where we had really yummy Coffee & coffee jelly with fresh cream.
Our tummies still wanted more , so we had bread-omlette. I also got a packet of Coffee powder for home .







Then we started On the GPS we saw a small diversion which goes through the forest , off the highway. Thought of doing some adventure , but were not very sure about it.

Utmost Adventure - That went wrong

While riding through Bhadra Forest range we noticed a diversion on the GPS , we were in dilemma whether to take that route or not.
Both the highway & that diversion would take us to almost the same place. We were heading for Mulyangiri , which is Karnataka's highest peak.

After a little confusion , we finally took the small diversion , after few meters we saw a checkpost which read "Bhadra Tiger Reserve". Taking that route turned out to be the biggest mistake.

Initial kilometers were smooth , full of curves , averagely good roads & very rare traffic. We were enjoying the route thoroughly due to scarce traffic and challenging hairpin bends. .. There were small villages too which made us feel safe during the first 10 kms.
After which suddenly the roads got over. We were on rocks & dust. We kept our determination strong and kept moving forward ... hour passed by , still no roads. We asked a passer by of a village , and he somehow said there is good roads ahead , but in a skeptical way. . God knows what he wanted to tell. We kept moving forward only to find some tarmac. Again we said to ourselves that we are going the RIGHT-WAY :P

The tarmac again got over and rocks and dust started ... and we were optimistic , tarmac would start again. Till now we had almost done 30 - 35 kms. And roads never started again. It was only stones & dust. We also found a forest check post amidst the forest , but useless. There was no one who could guide us. The GPS till this point showed we were on the right path , but that too was short-lived .

There was no mobile network in most of the part of this stretch. But we were blessed with GPS all through the way.

We kept off-roading kilometers after kilometer. The road seemed never ending due to our pace. The stretch was supposed to be 67 kms but those 67 kilometers were nowhere to get over. Boards & hoardings everywhere read Elephants & wild animal zone. It was almost 4 hours now in our struggle. Evening was approaching and sun had started to set slowly. This made our situation worse. Both of us were worried to the core.

Animal Encounter

We were still struggling , me leading and my friend following , when all of a sudden I noticed something round the corner. There were some animal(s) on the corner. With the lack of oxygen on such high altitude , and so much fatigue I could hardly believe my eyes and think what to do next. Like an idiot , i stood there still , trying to take out my camera , when I heard my friend say to move ahead ... it sounded like he wanted me to run. I somehow gained some consciousness , started my bike and moved towards the animals. They turned out to me NILGAIs. There were three of them who were almost charging towards us :-o , probably because we shocked them with our lights & engine sound.
It was on heart - in - mouth situation.

After that we kept moving forward , the roads inclination kept increasing , we were riding through sharp , steep hair pins on only stones & dust. It was extremely challenging. On one of the hair pins , there was a jeep full of strange looking people who asked me something , I didn\'t understand their language , but could hear the said something related BIKE. I thought to my self that they can be anything from Naxals , maoists to poachers and I almost fled from them .We kept riding to find even more trouble. Our GPS showed we were out of the route. This scared us even more. We thought we have to turn back and ride through the same route back to safety.

In the last 1 - 2 hours , we had not seen a single human or human habitation except the jeep. . The weather was getting chilling and sun was half way down. We decided to move forward as we believed that the road might lead us to some human habitation. We stopped by a cliff to take some deep breath & I shot a 360-degree video and clicked few pics.

At all time , we felt that that could be our last day ... the road was totally thrilling , a deep valley towards on side , so deep that if someone falls , nothing would be found for decades , and steep hill on the other side.

After some time I could hear a BUS HONK. I cannot express in my words what a relief it was to hear that horn. I said to my self today is not my last day ... Suddenly we were excited an started to ripp through the corners and within no time I noticed that we were back on the GPS route , and a few more kilometers , we touched the highway. .

As soon as we hit the highway , we again met those 3 Road-side-Rossis. ... But now they were shocked to see us coming out of that strange route ... a path taken by a few.

Superb narration.
You know what? I regularly follow this thread for some reasons.
1. Good writing skills and pictures.
2. Small technical things which everyone should follow.
3. I too share the same ride. And I know how good a SS125 is a tourer despite being a \'small\' 125 cc machine(If I\'m not wrong, the engine of SS125 is the same one as in the Enticer and YBX - both of which are legends at their own right)!

Mullayanagiri Peak - Chikmagalur - Hassan - Bangalore (Day - 5)

Then we rode to Mullayanagiri Peak after we hit the highway. The route towards the peak was breath taking at the same time challenging. We did not trekk the last few hundred meters to the top as we feared that it would get dark and we will have difficulty in riding back.

The weather was chilling at Mullayanagiri peak even in the presence of sunlight.

We headed towards Chikmagalur from where we were to take the route to Hassan and then ride to Bangaluru.

We stopped at a small ice-cream shop before entering Chikmagalur and had some tasty ice-creams & chips.






We reached Bangalore that night late ... at around 1am . ... My sister was waiting for us with some delicious dinner ready
We had the yummy dinner , had a small chat and went to sleep as we were very tired after a long day.
