@kaustav83 - Fantastic travelogue and that too solo...

I always have a soft corner for NE . Places like Sikkim, Meghalaya have all the ingredients to thrill any biker.
It hurts when the only thing people know about NE is they eat dogs and its insecure .
Your travelogue is a refreshing change from all the usually well known places and that you did solo should change people's perception.

Nelson_sanjoy, thanks! Yes indeed we need to look East. I want to know Arunachal, Mizoram also, otherwise knowing own country remains incomplete.

Day 6 (Umium Lake and return):

Finally, The end of my trip was near. Yet, I had kept one small but beautiful destination left for me, like some of us like to keep a piece of our favorite food or dessert at the end. It was a big lake near Shillong town, called Umium lake, locally named as "Barapani". It was on my way back to Guwahati also, so I packed my bags in morning, checked out and headed out toward the lake. Form the highway, the view was quite interesting.

However, I was looking for more, and given my flight was in evening, I had the whole day to take detours. I was told that to get close to the lake, its better to go to a resort called Orchid, and I decided to spend some time there, take photos and have lunch. The resort itself is quite nice, cottage style rooms facing the lake. Next to it is a water sports complex, where once could take different rides, I decided to take photos though

I kept thinking, how awesome the shots would be if I could come in early morning or sunset! Shots done, finished a cozy and slow lunch at the resort, and I was ready to ride back to airport.

This time, with my 5 day riding experience, daylight made a big difference on the road, and I was way less exhausted till I entered Guwahati. I was pretty much on the main road to go straight to airport, when a traffic cop directed me to take a detour to a smaller, yet less crowded route to airport, and I realized there was still a bit left to my scenic experiences. The road went along a bird sanctuary, which, in the afternoon light made a case for me to stop, and take photos.

What else could I ask for, there could not be any more perfect end to my trip with the last bit of the scenic beauty I could linger on for days and years to come, which will always push me to come back and explore other corners of my beautiful country.

Being a guy from Shillong, its good to see that more and more people have started to look at it as a peaceful touring destination. I am glad you liked it 😊.
