    Prologue:

There was this time when I was waiting for the launch of KTM duke 390 as I was a motocross fan and was excited about the launch of KTM bikes in our country. The year had passed and 390 was launched at an affordable price, I was happy about it. I liked KTM so much that my 27th birthday cake had KTM printed on it.

In Feb of 2014 for the valentines day we had planned to ride to Gokarna. We were two couples. So two bikes, My friend had a duke 200 and I had rented a red Karizma R. It was this trip where I totally dropped Duke 390 out of the equation after looking at the pillion discomfort on Duke 200. I was about to ride everywhere on my new bike with pillion and pillion comfort was important for those long rides to be authorised at first place. On the other hand we two were enjoying the ride on Karizma R, it was indeed one of the best tourers in India.

Fast forward, after a couple of months I had been to Goa, on a nice evening, me my friends Laxya and Sanju were having some whisky while we were in the pool. This topic struck that all three of us should upgrade our bikes, which bike? We all like the new thunderbird 350, and in that excitement we started talking about the kind of trips we would do on it. We will go entire south India "Dude, dude...We would be like wild hogs"(the Movie). Next day, when we woke up and sober, the idea of new TBTS350 was still on the back of our minds along with the hangover.

Couple of months later, we did book Royal Enfield Thunderbird 350. As of today, March 2015, I own a Matte black TBTS350. Laxya and Sanju owns Marine blue TBTS350. So much for the drunk talks, from dream to reality.

I feel KTM is more of a Bachelor bike for young or old. And if you are married or have a committed pillion then look else where.

One more point I would like to mentioned is looking at the sales chart of KTM we truly are YOUNGISTAN!

              South Trip

Dream of riding together for a pan south was still in planing phase. This was delayed so much that Sanju got married and Laxya had his own issues to take care of. While these two guys are in Goa, I am the one who is already in South (bangalore).
Due to closing of my project, I was about to loose my job. After the Goa trip I started working really hard to secure a job for myself. In month of Feb 2015 I got a new job and joining was March first week. After all the calculations, I would have about a week of riding time. I knew that these guys would not be able to make it to the trip under such short notice. I did not have much time for the planning of this trip either, according to the finances and time I had in hand, this trip seemed doable.
19th Feb I decided I'll do it solo and gave the bike for service. I had planned on installing CREE Led for possible night rides, if any (or early morning ones). While I was in office, I jot down a brief plan of my trip on Google Maps.

              Ride and Accessories:

Bike - All stalk except extra aux lights.
CREE - I bought a pair of CREE XM-L 10W from Biking Spirit for Rs6000, Installed them at Art of Motorcycling for Rs300.
GPS Mount - Rynox Note2 handlebar mount from Lets Ger up for Rs850.
Luggage: Rynox Nomad V2 Saddle bag from Amazon for Rs4699, 2 bungee cords from Nh4 Motorheads for Rs300
Power Bank: Mi 10000mAh from flipkart for Rs899, useful for running GPS whole day.
Gears: Custom leather jacket with Fox elbow pads, ProBiker gloves, Fox knee pads over Jeans, Army shoes from HSR layout for Rs850(bought for this trip), Vega Helmet.
Phone: Samsung Galaxy note 2, this was my very important partner throughout the ride after my bike. 3100mAh battery which lasts whole day, big screen for better visibility of map and watching videos, clicking pictures(All pics taken by Note 2), listening to songs, one more important feature is that you can use stylus, no need to remove gloves to use phone.

21st Feb I had been to our usual Bangalore XBHP G2G (Bakar sessions, which goes bakar bakar bakar) and discussed my plan with the folks. I got some important queues from Sunil and Suvra. They wished me good luck and asked to contact if needed anytime. That moment I was so glad to meet these people. After this I headed straight to Petrol bunk and tanked up. Went home and packed my bags. This time since I was going solo and I did not have my lady with me to travel. I was finding my saddle bags as too much and excluded the tank bag. In my last trip, three bags were not enough (Ladies and their luggage, uffff). So I packed my bags liberally with blankets and extra pair of shoes for walking around and flipflops for beach, lmao...

              Day1 - Bangalore to Ooty.

Perks of going solo, you are not bound by anything and are free to wander. So, I did not wake up to the alarm and left my place at around 7am. Such excitement and happiness I was singing some song loudly. My plan was to stop at Bidadi and have some tatte idli (awesome variant of idli). The big mistake was that I took Mysore road inspite of Sunil warning about the traffic. Mysore road chaos is a known fact now, I thought how bad could it be? Trust me, it was bad. I started accelerating the bike at every opportunty found and missed my fav "Shree Vishnu Tatte Idli". Here, my bike went off just like that. I parked on the road side, took a deep breath and tried starting it. It came back to life, phew. I thought this was the end. No worries, I moved on hoping to reach Mysore asap and then I would do a chillaxed ride towards Ooty.

I stopped at some road side shack for idli and chai near Mysore. After crossing mysore, I rode towards Bandipura national park. On the way, while I was riding through Bandipura, I saw warning signs stating "Bandipura Tiger Reserve, No stopping, no parking", damn, I checked my RVM, no vehicle behind me, none ahead. I got tensed, I dont want to deal with tigers or elephants. I sped through the deserted, hot and dry zone. The area was so dry that one spark could burn the whole jungle. After some kimis covered, I started seeing people and was relaxed again. Then I entered Mudumalai tiger reserve(mudumalai was first of many malai I would be going through) , Oh god, another tiger reserve to cross. I had entered Tamil Nadu, roads in mudumalai were not that good as bandipura.

It was in Mudumalai, I had a tiger encounter, he flashed his lights and moved on, it was a white Triumph Tiger 800, in tiger reserver (what an Irony), In return I passed a thumbs up. In some time, I started to see Majestic Nilgiri hills, all green. Green is what I needed, I was happy and started clicking some pics. Throughout this trip I did not click many pictures as it was boring to stop and take off the gloves and fetch my phone and click pictures. I just lived in the moment and enjoyed it. taking back very little of what I saw physically and a lot more mentally.

I had tea at one place some 20kms before Ooty, that tea was one of the best I ever had. So, I guess Nilgiri chai is not to be missed if one is traveling on that road.

It was somewhere in the afternoon I was riding through these ghats at around 30kmph enjoying the vistas and in the bright sunlight, one thing about ooty, I was feeling cold in the afternoon inside my gears, but, after hot and dry climate of Bandipura jungles, this was good experience. Sun was there just for the hypothetical warmth. I reached Ooty and first thing that came to my head after looking at those tall pine trees is the movie "Raaz" also Bipasha basu, I started singing that song "Aapke pyaar mein..." almost involuntarily.

I reached Ooty town and along those picturesque landscapes there were many hotels to stay. Also, one of the reasons I chose ooty for stay, Finding room here will not be difficult. At first, I started riding towards a hill top and inquired for rooms in one of the guest house, Rs1800 they said, Since I had to go long way and this kind of fancy stay would not fit my budget I scanned the area from the hill top, I could see a huge hotel named "Fair stay", I went downhill and started riding towards that hotel. FairStay was not that fair, Rs2500 per day, besides that there was a small decent lodge, he said Rs800, me happy inside. at first I lowered my standards to ground zero, I told the hotel guy that I have to leave early tomorrow, so, I just need place to keep my luggage and lie down for the night and I will not mind sleeping on the couch in the lobby, he smiled and said Rs700 last, I obliged. This place was really good, I had this guilt that this place was too cheap for 700, but I had to let that feeling slip. After checking in I just switched on the tap to wash. And holy shit, water was super chilled. Now, I understood why the manager was saying "we have hot water 24/7". Hot water please sir...

I had a quick nap and moved out to check out ooty sunset, I did not get much of it as my nap is not really a "nap" I slept for solid 3.30hrs. This is when I thought I need some liquid to warm me. Started looking out for it, turns out, this place has bare minimum liquor shops. I found one with the name "Brandy" with all alien drinks lined up in the shelf. I ordered for some alien whisky called " Cosmopolitian". got some biryani packed and went straight to room. Last thing I remember from that day was that I was laughing out loud reading some messages on whatsapp and watching some funny movie on TV.

This trip was made solo(without pillion). Performance of the bike was okay. No problem to cruise at 80kmph. Lil slag observed on hill climb. Rest was fine. Also, the slipping of second gear every time was very annoying.
