I would like to start with thanking xbhp and xbhpians for awesome and inspiring TLogues which have been my best time killers in drab times.

This journey here is my first ever solo ride, first long ride, first post on xbhp, and as the title says, first attempt at self discovery. This trip i did from:

Hyderabad-Bidar- (scary or danger depicting smiley)* Humnabad-Hyderabad

mostly via godforsaken super bad Mumbai Highway.

Thank you ridermax! I am still trying to figure out a lot of tools on xbhp, like the one to reply to many in one post rather than quoting one by one. Will surely take care next time.

I changed as you suggested. They appear of the same size before uploading, but of different sizes when I submitted the changes. Cheating this is.

              Re: First attempt at self-discovery!

Pumped in as I was after reading all those TLogues, I decided to go for a ride myself and google for weekend getaways, and found this result Bidar.

Bidar was the smallest of the five Deccan sultanates. Qasim Barid, founder of the Barid Shahi dynasty joined the service of Bahmani ruler Mahmud Shah Bahmani. I quickly obtained the tentative to-visit places in Bidar, the roads I am going to take on. After having lost my 3 month old brand new Note 2, I borrowed my friend Adithya's camera. Took print outs of maps on office, the plan was made for Saturday, 19th Oct.

I slept around 1 am with the alarm for 5am, excited about my small 1 day trip. I woke up in sadness when I saw the clock ticking 6.45 am. Wondering why the alarm didn't ring, I found the alarm was kept for 5pm instead of 5am. There goes my whole plan, I thought. I was skeptical to start this late with Sun God showing no mercy, decided the fate of the trip with the flip of a coin. And yay, the trip is back on! Finally started at 7.30 am with 1 backpack, 1 extra jacket. Unequipped with gear, I decided to use my Gym gloves(never used ) for the ride. Barring the safety, they did provide a good grip.

Informed my gf, I left for Mumbai Highway and started at 80s, soon picked up speed. 50 kms into the ride, hoping for tree shadowed roads, I stopped for a quick photo-shoot as my machine covered her 2000 Kms.

Continued cruising when suddenly the highway became infested with XXXL size pot holes. Entered and came out of 2 such pits in not a good way, and stopped for a conscience break.

Continued again with a relaxed mind, took a right turn at Zaheeraabd, and left the Mumbai Highway. An awesome well laid tarmac greeted me, and I was easily cruising at 100+ now. Stopped for some shots of a dam I came across, and also to refer to my to-visit places list as I was entering Bidar soon. Felt great to have crossed the state border on my 2 wheels.

1st stop: Deva Deva Vana, an Eco-tourism spot. You have various medicinal flora and fauna grouped with devotional names like Panchavativana, Ashoka vana, Rashi vana(zodiac), Navagraha vana etc. All these sacred groves are created for relaxation and meditation.

Next stop: Sri Narsimha Jharna Temple.
Narasimha Jhira Cave Temple – Mythology
The myth says that the mighty Lord Narasimha first killed Hiranyakashipu and then proceeded to slay the demon Jalasura who was a staunch devotee of Lord Shiva. After being killed by Lord Narasimha, the demon Jalasura turned into water and started flowing down the feet of the Lord Narasimha. For this reason, people have to wade all the way through the water to reach the Lord.

With Sun beating down on me, I headed for the Ashtur Tombs. Located outside of the Bidar city in the village of Ashtur, they house the tombs of later Bahmani Kings. Totally secluded, with only a couple of more tourists there, it was a silent place. Clicked some pics, rested under a tree, and moved on.

Sorry folks, my laptop went crazy for a long time, and then the laziness hit me. Here is the log for the rest of the trip:

After the Ashtur Tombs, it was time to enter the city:

This walled structure greets you from every face you enter Bidar, clearly describing the safety levels of the city.

The clock tower at Chaubara, you could view the entire town from it's top, they say.

Next was the Madarsa of Khwaja Mahmud Gawan. Now what remains are only the remains of this theological university after having faced several explosions and lightning strikes. It used to contain mosque, library, professors' quarters, students' cubicles and lecture halls.

Then, I went for the ever so formidable and indomitable Bidar Fort! Built by Bahmani Sultan Ahmad Shah in 1426-32AD, this fort abounds in tunnels and underground chambers which as they said, were used for emergency exits or storing arms and Gold, you see!

This turned out to be the cafeteria after renovation!

After having had the taste of Bidar Fort and another history lesson of the Deccan Sultanate, I moved on to the next point:

Gurudwara Sri Nanak Jhira Sahib. Legend says that Guru Nanak passed through this place, and people approached him with the water trouble in the place. Guru Nanak then touched the hillock with his foot, and water started flowing! Enjoy the beautiful and serene place for yourself.

After this, was the deciding moment for me if I should be going to Humnabad(around 50kms) for the Veerbhadreshwar Temple, and I ended up going. The trouble started on the way back, when it started getting darker and riding those potholes stricken road took a toll on me. I freaked out a family going in car when they found me following them for very long and not overtaking them. The guy applied the intelligent trick of wiping his screen which made the water fall on me as I was riding close. Then, I closed on them and explained how I was using their headlight to watch out for the potholes.

All in all, reached home safely, and back to mundane stuff until...............next trip!
