  • Wanderlust: Kashmir and Ladakh

    Hello everyone,

I rode to Kashmir and Ladakh from Delhi and back in August 2014 along with my friend. Although I am kind of late to post about this trip I took last year, I feel it would be great to motivate potential riders this year with some pictures and few experiences. As for me, I am an average biker living in Bangalore. I didn't even know how to ride a bike until I bought one two years back , so if I can do a road trip to Ladakh, anyone can. With proper preparation of course!

    Brief itinerary:

I shall divide the journey into the following sections and post accordingly:

    1. Delhi to Srinagar
    2. Srinagar-Gulmarg-Dal Lake
    3. Srinagar to Leh via Kargil
    4. Leh, Leh Palace, Khardung-La
    5. Leh to Pangong Tso and back
    6. Leh to Sarchu
    7. Sarchu to Manali
    8. Manali to Delhi via Chandigarh

    Total kms: 3350

    No. of days: 14

Bikes: Pulsar 200NS and Yamaha FZ-16

Posting few pictures from the ride as of now:

            Wow the pics are awesome.

What all touring accessories did you use on 200ns? Were you solo on it?
Any special modifications you did on 200ns?
            What tyres did you use?

I followed the numerous posts on Ladakh in xBhp's forums to prepare for the trip. As for the accessories, I was using the Viaterra Leh series Saddlebags apart from the regular riding gear. No special modifications. I replaced the clutch assembly, spark plugs, clutch and accelerator wires, chain-spocket assembly before leaving and took these replaced parts as spares. I had also replaced the tyres long before the trip to Pirelli Sport Demon since I hated the Eurogrips.

Thank you so much for the answers, will help me a great deal.

I'm more curious about the feedback of PSD. I'm about to change my tyres. You recommend PSD or michellin radial for normal use plus ladakh trip.?

I personally love the Sport Demons. I can tell you that they are really awesome tyres when it comes to cornering. They did pretty well in the Ladakh trip as I had absolutely no problems with the tyres. But I really wont be able to tell you much about the Michelins because I havent used them ever.

When we reached Srinagar it was almost 8pm and tired as we were after 400 kms through the mountains, it was time to find a place to crash in for the night.
