      Re: Home run!

To say goodbye is to die a little!

This was the 8th day from arrival and it marked departure from home back to the chaotic city. The city which enables our rider with freedom and choices of places to ride to.
Big thanks to @BloggingWheels for helping the rider with the 1st day's return route. Day 2 and 3 were supposed to be on the same route as while coming home.

With a heavy heart, the rider set off towards Cuttack.

      Route taken - Bokaro - Purulia - Jamshedpur - Hata - Bisoi - Balasore - Bhadrak - Cuttack.

Barring a few cows and sheep trying to dart across the road with calculated precision in order to hit our rider and an unseen speed hump near Purulia which threw the rider 4 feet in the air at high speed, the ride till Tata (a.k.a Jamshedpur) was uneventful.

Akash @BloggingWheels) was waiting near Tata to escort our bummer of a rider till Hata.

Thanks buddy for the help. Then, it was a mix of straight roads and some diversions as perfectly demonstrated by Sygic offline maps. The rider reached Bhadrak at about 2:45 PM and decided to gulp a few glasses of sugarcane juice. 3 glasses for 20 rupees was pure VFM!

The rider thought he had about 185 odd km to do for the day and he could take it easy.
But, almighty had other plans. Within 10 min, there was torrential rain with heavy duty crosswinds! Lightning accompanied and our rider was terrified to death. He had no plans of stopping under a tree (there was no place else) and it was lightning like crazy.

This was the time when he cursed Hero designers the most. They had the engine tech from Honda. All they had to design were RVMs and the fairing and they sucked at both!
RVMs began getting loose and clapping hands when braking or accelerating in those crosswinds and did the bike sway dangerously.

Trucks would fly past effortlessly whereas our rider was struggling to do 40 kmph. Most of the time, due to low pressure created beside the trucks/buses/SUVs, the bike would get sucked into it and would come dangerously close to the bigger vehicle. He needed a break. But rain was lashing on him so bad, that he dare not stop for the fear of being struck by lightning.

It looked like freaking 6:30 PM at 3:30 PM in the day. Again, standing on the footrests was attempted (due to sore and wet behind, minus any rest stops) but crosswinds prevented him from doing so. Crying to tears by the time he reached Cuttack, he stopped at Link road and gave @Bibhu a call to escort him.

Rains stopped for 5 odd min. This is how Cuttack looked like at 5:15 PM.

While waiting for Bibhu, he had small talk with Mr Honey who is a fan of the big Busa. Nice talking to you brother!

Soon, savior Bibhu arrived and escorted the rider to the hotel. His hands were so numb that it took 15 min to unpack all luggage and reach the reception. Formalities done, it was time to shift to the room and change into dry clothes!

Bibhu gave the rider a few insights about riding and maintenance and then the biggest gift of all time! He took the rider to his home where he met with Bibhu's mother. #Respect and lots of love to aunty. Then, he got a chance to see that spanking beauty of an RD 350 and heard her roar! That was pure awesomeness.
Not only that, he took the rider to his spares collection and what a sight it was! Sadly, it was raining so bad that the rider left his cam/phone at the hotel itself. So no pics.

Finally after spending some time with his lovely cat and dog, it was time to dine. Head back to the hotel sitting pillion to Bibhu while cutting through tiny streets. It felt like sin city.

Next day was supposed to be big, as the target was reaching Vijayawada. A distance of 810 km.

For now, it was chicken curry time!

        Re: Home run!

I only met the rider briefly some 3 years ago. There was not much communication afterwards between us. Some 3 months ago he contacted me regarding some acomodation arrangement in Cuttack for his overnight stay during his trip. I took it casually first as it was not his first barbeque. But hosting the rider in Cuttack was more of a rescue mission in the first leg as the rider was almost in a state of hoplessness when i found him alone, at almost 10:30pm, on the link road. I asked him if he had any food and water. To my horror, i found out that he was coming off hungry and thirsty the whole day. I immidiately took him to the pre-booked hotel and food was ordered. I had a short chat with him about the trip and some trivial subjects while the food arived. Then I took my leave, letting him have a good night's rest. At about 6 AM the rider checked out, loaded up again and was escorted to the city limits. He then rode off on the highway.

Upon his return trip, it was an altogether different scenario, he braved an afternoon full of heavy winds, torrential rain and chilling temprature, reaching Cuttack at about 5:15 pm. When I found the rider, he was drenched. Weather was bad in Cuttack. I took him to his prearranged acomodation, where he freshened up, and then I took him home, because my mum kept badgering me to meet this great "mahatma" travelling 2200 kms on a motorcycle. She smiled and told me later"bachha lag raha hai, iske parents dant te nahi ise?"
We had some discussions about the junkyard i call home, about his engine stall issue and other topics. I took him back to the hotel where we shared a meal. Then the next morning i escorted him to the city limits where he went on his way back.

All in all, I was happy to be a part of the rider's journey. It made us better friends. Beyond the concept of clubs and meet there exists a bond of humanity between people. We should not forget that above all it is the attitude and soul that matters not numbers and statistics. A little compassion, a stretched hand of friendship, a warm welcome goes a long way. I hope the rider was happy with our small town hospitality. And Mr. Rider, fix your handle too.

The bike and the rider having ridden for three days and the beast resting under the showers!!
          A well deserved rest!

And i has just one thought recurring in my mind. How the hell do i eat thrice in a day when am on a long ride and the bike is packed with luggage. Hotels and dhabas out of question as you can't leave your bike.
Is that the reason why you choose ORS and other easy-to-get liquid supplements?? Or any other reason?
And many congrats on completing this ride bro! A rider becomes wiser at the end of his ride! A ride like this would have given you both experience and wisdom!

Edit: You've got excellent skills in narration bro! Holds the reader's attention. A pinch of humour here and there add to your presentation as seasoning a well cooked dish!!

The pleasure is all mine. Hospitality is never small, it needs a huge heart.
It has indeed made us good friends and I hope to live up to the expectations.
              Hope we meet again, soon!

P.P.S - The handle is fixed now!

Thanks a lot Abhi. I'm glad you liked it. Since I didn't have truck loads of pics, I emphasized on the writing aspect this time.
Regarding food, you can forget 3 meals a day, everyday. 2 meals if you're lucky. I took ORS to avoid dehydration.

I said, I didnt knew he faced such situations in the trip. We were waiting for him all evening. As I said, it was just bad/mis communication. We didnt knew how long we had to Wait. It was getting late. Taufiq had to go to salipur, Anupam back to bbsr. So we all got home. Everything was left on Bibhu bhai which he handled on behalf of us. And we really are greatful to him. He had direct communication with Dibya.
