  • Ride to The Grand Canyon of India - Gandikota, Belum Caves

The Grand Canyon of India! Such an amazing place.
Lets start with this. I have a group of friends who always make plans for every weekend. So they planned this Gandikota. I have seen few pics somewhere in the blog of a guy who is sitting in one of the road which was simply awesome with a backdrop of never ending road with amazing view. While the rest of the people planned TT, I thought I will ride with bike. One other friend also told he will come only if we are riding. Later two more people wanted to come so we took them as pilion as TT was already full.

Rest of the friends started previous night, while we started early morning at 4am on 13th of June 2015.

There was two routes which we could have taken. One through Hyderabad highway and another one through Chintamani! and you know which one I would take any normal day! So instead of boring hyderabad highway route we took the chintamani route! Amazing twists and turns! Amazing landscapes!

    To the infinity and beyond!

    Rest for a while

We reached by the afternoon and the places we explored for the day.

    The Jail!

It was one of the hottest place I have ever been to! It was so hot weather that it was difficult to breath inside the room!

    The Grand Canyon of India

    The Gang!

How tiny we are in front of a grand nature!

Video documentary of the ride :

    Day 2 will follow.

Re: Ride to The Grand Canyon of India - Gandikota, Belum Caves

Previous day evening while roaming around the forts one of my friend tripped over and fell on a rock hurting his hand very badly. the place we stayed was very far from the city and there were no clinics or doctors were around. I took him on bike to nearest clinic which was around 15km from the place we stayed, however there were no hospitals. we found one small clinic and by the look itself he said to take him to a big hospital where they can take his x-ray and do a proper checkup. But the nearest hospital was about 60km far and there was no guarantee doctors will be available at that time. It was already night by then so doctor suggested to take him on the next day morning to hospital. So we returned back to the place where we stayed, hwoever he couldn't sleep all night with the pain even after keeping ice packs around him.

So next day morning, my friend Canute came to his rescue. Being attended first aid session he knew what needs to be done and with the limited resources he improvised a perfect support for his hands. Here is for you to see rather than explaining!

This was so perfect that, all the pain got stopped as there was no more moevment of his hands, and we continued the trip(as he wanted the same) to belum caves. This will show how important it is to attend a first aid session and I have seen him helping people who met in road accidents earlier once we went on a group ride too. Doctor was so much impressed on the setup when we showed it the next day in bangalore and appreciate what we have done. So much to be proud of!

I have posted this on reddit( /r/DIY section) and it was on the top most list for the whole day.

Few of us missed another part of Gandikota previous day, so we went there for a quick stroll before everyone else got ready.

Started by 9:00 Am we head towards Belum caves.

Interesting read about belum caves "Belum Caves is the second largest cave in Indian subcontinent and the longest caves in plains of Indian Subcontinent, known for its stalactite and stalagmite formations. Belum Caves have long passages, spacious chambers, fresh water galleries and siphons. It is a natural underground cave formed by the constant flow of underground water.

                "

It was almost past noon and we started back to bangalore after having lunch. While coming back we took the quicker root, ie through Hyderabad highway.

It was green and cool except during the afternoon. We were lucky on the second day as it was cloudy. First day we literally got roasted in the noon!
