  • [Photo Feature]: [Photologue] : Nalamalla Forest and Srisailam Dam

Since Thursday evening (17th Dec) temperatures in Hyderabad dropped and even there was some rain in the nights and the mornings became very cold with less visibility and plenty of fog on Highways. Here i decided to do a road trip and started planning a ride towards Srisailam Dam through Nallamala forest from Hyderabad.

This is my first 200+kms ride on a bike. Previously did small rides within 70-80kms.Very new to Xbhp and to bike trips. Thanks to the wonderful and helpful people here on Xbhp for providing the valuable information on safe riding which is very helpful for new guys like me who want to ride safely and enjoy the trip.

    Route Taken : Mehdipatnam-Pahadi-Kalwakurthy-Dindi-Munnanur-Srisailam

Sunday morning started by 7:00am from Mehdipatnam towards Pahadi shareef it was very cold and lot of people on road side were sitting around fire holding hot tea to keep themselves warm from the chilling cold.

Just for information this is the entry gate to a small safari and Farahabad viewpoint. No private vehicles are allowed after this gate,we need to hire a jeep for Rs 800/- you can hire a whole jeep for one or two persons and the maximum of 6 persons. We didn't took that safari and continued towards srisailam.

After crossing this Tiger project we headed towards mallela theertham waterfalls. You have to take a left turn from Vatuvarlapalli village and one need to ride for next 8kms through a couple of small villages and the worst part of this whole 8kms is you have to ride on kaccha road with plenty of road bumps which will test the suspension of your bike.Needs to be very careful on this road as it is very narrow and not smooth at all.

Now the task was to climd down around 350 not so good looking steps. The surroundings were mesmerizing and the trees were huge inside the forest but the water was very less but still it was good to hear the sound of water falling from such a height. It was green all over the place.

Me watching this beautiful waterfall unless some mad people arrived and started taking bath under the waterfall when it was clearly mentioned that it is not allowed to take bath or to go near the waterfall. They didn't stopped here instead of all this nonsense they started smoking by just moving little bit away from the waterfall.

Now it was time to go back and now the biggest and difficult task was to climb up those 350 steps and literally i was not at all ready to climb. It took me 5 stops to reach the parking.Exhausted in a 15 degree cool temperature.

A very good first long ride.
As far as I remember the safety warning board warns you not to enter the water as it is too deep but not to take bath under the waterfall; that is the reason there are barriers that prevents one from going into the water area. But it is an absolutely fantastic experience taking a bath under the waterfall.

Finally reached the parking of the waterfalls, took a 5 minutes rest and again we were back on Srisailam highway. Now we decided to ride non stop till srisailam dam but as soon as we saw the first glimpse of Krishna river we had to stop for some beautiful views of forest and river and the stop was worthy.

There's a nice and smooth curve and from here one can stand and watch the beautiful views of River Krishna and Nalamall Forest.

Now it was time to visit Srisailam Dam.The gates were closed as it was not a monsoon season and the water in Krishna river was very less but still the dam was looking beautiful with the Nalamalla forest hills in the background. The crowd was very less and the cool weather made everything look better on that day.
