12th August 2015
      Udaipur to Daman

      Distance travelled: 594 kms
Route taken:Road conditions: AWESOME all throughout. Beware of spell bounding landscapes which can throw your timing off schedule since you will not want to ride or drive fast to cover miles. SH5 is a DREAM to ride on. My two cents worth : try to include this highway on your route if you riding / driving through, you will not regret it. On the NH8 post leaving Udaipur take a left from Samalaji (about 20 kms post entering Gujarat. This is the ride in heaven; SH5 and continues right until Vadodra Bypass where you again join NH8 (be prepared for a more than harsh jolt back into reality guys !! )
      Departure time: 0730 hrs.
      Arrival time: 0830 hrs.
      Time in saddle: 10 hrs.
      Total breaks: 3 hrs.

I was hesitant at first to try out the chutneys however the temptation was too hard hard to resist. I took a leisurely stroll around the area with people staring at me, in gear, as if I was an alien from Pluto who had landed on the Earth and amid curious questions.. Click image for larger version

ID:	1919096There are then I decided on the change of route and planned up the short ride to Daman.

I covered the entire distance to Daman in about 40 minutes due to the rush on the roads at the same time silently thanking my stars I did not push for Nashik because I realized I could never have done it. Nevertheless, reached Daman and there began my miseries for the day. Trying to locate the hotel which I had booked on the fly with Goibibo was tougher than finding a needle in the haystack. Add to that language differences and you have a deadly recipe for frustration.

Finally after about 45 minutes of hunting, inquiring, google mapping I was able to get the hotel.

Awesome; that 5000 kms solo under the belt is nothing short of an extraordinary accomplishment. The road reports and your narration reminds me of a similar trip I did last year, but I wasn't doing it solo. Amazing!!

Hey bro ... I touched a top speed of 127K during Pune - Bangalore in certain stretches although i could have pushed it more. The engine did sound a bit restrained post 110 but twist the throttle more and it does respond and respond well... Atleast in my case, i never felt the engine was out of juice at any time during the journey.

Route taken: Road conditions: Moderate to bad road conditions from Gurgaon to Jaipur Bypass with many diversions. Please do not check the NHAI website for road completion since it is all a lie mentioned on there. Jaipur Bypass to Kishangarh is a biker's heaven with butter smooth roads and keeping speeds in check is a tad hard. Bad stretches post hitting Kishangarh BP however the road smoothens out post that all the way to Udaipur. Beware of moving on NH76 since most of it is single laned with horrible traffic. Post Barada the roads are horrible, not with potholes but with undulations all over which can make you lose balance quite easily.

My stomach, by now, had again started growling from the hunger and I thought it better to stop and give it some food and my steed some rest at the same time. The skies had become overcast with clouds and rain was evident which it did. I pushed along searching for a decent dhaba to stop at the satiate my hunger. I found a Fauji Dhaba, and my oh my, it was the best bhindi masala and dal fry which I had for a really long time.

P.S. The Kishangarh bypass does not have any markings, to get on the bypass we need to take a left from the first fly-over perpendicular to the Ajmer expressway post the Kishangarh Toll Plaza.

Since it was raining, and the view across the highway was just too tempting to move on I decided to extend the break and sit here sipping a cup of steaming hot tea, whilst enjoying the beauty of nature, a view which could never be seen in Gurgaon. For me it was like being in heaven !!!

I took a few clicks and wished that I could take some clouds along with me, the clouds were so close.

Once the rains stopped, I decided it was time to move on. I wore my rain suit and was looking like a scientist who had come to capture ET. I stopped to refuel twice more on the way, where I took leisurely breaks admiring the scenic beauty of the route and making note of fuel consumption.

Thanks bro... and its great to know about your planned trip. Is it gonna be one way or return too ? The route you take depends on your purpose of visit. The 220 will definitely serve you well during the trip as its a way better tourer than the NS in terms of stability and highway handling. Will not comment on the power though

Honestly I did not carry any maps with me. Neither did I use GPS to find the way. The signage on the highway is, as a matter of fact, brilliant. If you know the places you are going to pass through its no issue at all. I did this >>> Went onto google maps and found out the places i wanted to travel and made a note of the places I would pass by on my route. This exercise was repeated at the end of each day to refresh my transit destination list for the next day. The only place I needed loads of local guidance was after hitting Mumbai on my way to Pune from Daman. But at the same time it caused havoc with my plans due to the unfortunate unhealthy guidance by locals on my way back.

Thanks bro... and its great to know about your planned trip. Is it gonna be one way or return too ? The route you take depends on your purpose of visit. The 220 will definitely serve you well during the trip as its a way better tourer than the NS in terms of stability and highway handling. Will not comment on the power though [emoji14]
