dont do the stupid thing what we did. courier the bikes to NJP, catch a plane to calcutta, reach NJP in train/bus and start riding. we wasted the very first 3 days reaching NJP on train.

and spidy, please be careful of choosing the riders.. everybody is responsible for everyone.. can't afford to make mistakes bro.. do few long trips with all the riders together.. you will come to know a lot of things [no offense to anybody]

razorBlades, can you give some more info about GATI? We will be using such transporter services for our next trip... Any info about the cost and services.. where and how to receive bikes at the destination? ... how many days are required for transportation? etc.
It would be better if you pm these info to me... not doing more OT in this thread
When we planned our trip, the road from mumbai-calcutta was not ridable totally flooded path. so we took GATI. They said it will take 3 days for them to transport bikes from mumbai-njp, and they did it in 3 days. we actually transported the bikes 10 days before the trip.. bikes were stored in their NJP garage for the remaining days.

we paid them around 2800 i guess.. dont remember exactly though

    check [http://www.gati.com/] for services.

A good long ride can clear your mind, restore your faith, and use up a lot of fuel.

Always be ready (get geared) to fall and then think of sitting on the motorcycle.

Sure man, will keep that in mind. As of now am just looking for the people who are interested. If you need to point out anybody special, oyu can PM me. It wont be out, thats a promise, coz ofcourse even I want this (actually all) ride to be an accident free ride all the way back to Mumbai. Anyways thx for all the help, now I must learn how to detach ZMA's front fairing

& dont get shocked if I tell you that am riding all the way to NJP...
Mumbai - Nagpur(Iron butt) 2 days halt @ home - NJP via Kolkata in 2 days... Sounds crazy but am gona do it ALONE!
Rest I will tell them to carry on with GATI n all...

Rajebhau, are you trying to bribe me?
But even if we plan a Ladakh tour, I would like to go our own way, rather than registering with some tour-guiding-site.

Hey guys, is the plan still up?? Have you come up with any outline? We are doing a 5-member expedition in 2nd week of October, once the Puja crowd returns home. Want to know if you have planned anything fixed.

                        Nothing concrete as of now...
Will only be finalizing it by September.

My plans have changed and I am going solo August last week. Hope the rains won't be a bother. Anyone cares to join, please PM. Whoever heard of One to Tango??

                                darth_lucifer, Anup and razor:
Can I get a permit made for Nathula in advance? I was planning to start on Sat from Bhubaneswar and reach Siliguri on Sunday night. But knowing that the pass is open only on Wed, Thu, Sat and Sun, I am thinking of starting on Friday mid-day and struggle upto Gangtok on Sunday morning, then head over to Nathula with the permits in hand. Can't afford to miss the weekend on either side of the week due to leaves crunch.

                                Spidey:
You mention permit can be made in Siliguri, right? Are these valid for going to Nathula? I have a friend there who can get me the permit in advance if it cuts down the delay. I am in confusion over the various permits discussed here (Route permit vs Inner state permit).
