Re: Delhi to Dhanbad on a motorcycle. My first travelogue.

I have done Delhi - Kolkata twice through NH2. Keeping speeds above 90 is dangerous since you are not sure if someone is crossing the median or you have oncoming traffic in the wrong lane. I would say 80-85 is what should be kept.
Also taking ample amount of breaks gives rest to both the body and your machine. I have covered sufficient distances and reached destinations on time inspite of taking numerous sutta/chai breaks or water/energy timeouts.

Probably if you do the same route again you would be a bit more experienced on road conditions and techniques of doing long distance riding effectively.

Cheers mate for the ride !!!

Excellent TL with wonderful language but very few pictures. The detailed reactions of your relatives and something more about Dhanbad environment and your return journey.

This sounds like "Back from the future" for me, as I'm planning my first mile-munchers on a CBR right now. Every other condition remains the same. I had done a few 500K+ drives and I can exactly understand the thrills of TS.

Hey Kashmee, I'm also planning for a viaterra claw on the baby CBR. Please brief me your experience wuth it.
I meditate as I ride to find a place to sit and meditate.

Thanks for d appreciation Mukund. I was in too much hurry to reach home so did not click many pics.

About d environment of Dhanbad, there is nothing much to talk about. Its surrounded by coal mines so a very polluted city.
And dere was no return ride as my dad packed d bike and sent it back to Delhi by transport after a lot of emotional blackmailing.

The viaterra held up very well. It was sitting in d bike like a rock. Do use d rain cover that it comes with, all d time even if it's not raining. It will save u one day of dry-cleaning.

The space in it is huge. I was carrying a lot of clothes due to d festive season and tool kits and gifts still dere was a lot of space left.

There is only one disadvantage, unlike other bags like Rynox nomad etc which has latches to unmount d bags easily. This bag once mounted and tied to d bike can't be removed quickly.
So u can't move too far away from d bike during short breaks. And u don't want d hassle of untying and tying it back every time u park d bike and walk into a cafeteria etc.
I specifically chose my break points where I could park d bike close to me and take a break.

Another obvious thing is no place for pillion.

Other than these two cons dere is nothing wrong with d bag. It doesn't swing at high speed or air blasts,
Huge space, when completely packed u can use it as a back rest.
I would still suggest u check dirt sack or Rynox only because of d unmounting issue. U don't want to walk into a restaurant with ur saddle bag tied in d bike at a parking. I would prefer to carry my stuff with me.
Also as CBR is a high performance bike I would suggest using at least one bungee cord to tie d bag to be on d safer side.
All d best for your trip. Godspeed.

Good read brother. Enjoyed the narration.

I can relate to what you mentioned in the above lines. No matter where we are riding, we need to speak/discuss with the right people about the right things. Else, rather than help with the ride, most will just de-motivate you.

Jamshedpur is my mom's home town been there so many times.
It is not advisable to ride in UP/Bihar/jharkhand at night.
Though I know people who have done it but i won't recommend it. Simply because most of the highways goes through agricultural lands and wild bushes. So there are not back ups infrastructure wise also there is nothing to support you in case of a break down or any other mishap.
Also local people do not follow traffic rules there.
I suggest you stop at varanasi in the evening and enjoy the food and Ganga arti and leave in the morning.
