Day 4: Coorg to Coonoor
From L to R - Sarasu Amma, Laxmi Amma, Bala, Mr Kumar and Me
My journey for the day had started. I was heading to Madikeri city from where I had to turn towards VIrajpet. During the ride I was wondering how and why I got connected to this place like never before. It was something which I never expected. I had carried my laptop thinking that probably at some point during my stay I met get bored. But never did I get bored, I in fact did not even get time to transfer video clips from my Go Pro. I was constantly discussing something or the other with either one of them or else I used to just enjoy the peace and serenity. My decision to spend 2 days in Coorg proved to be the right call.
After this small confrontation with my mind, I was back to enjoying the ride. The stretch from Madikeri to Virajpet is probably one of the most scenic and well maintained roads. I felt as if Coorg was just throwing more of its beauty in front of me convincing me not to go!
But I had to break her heart and move on. The roads were in good conditions till I reached Kutta.
th state in 4 days! This particular stretch of around 6-7kms was very scenic with the roads going through thick forest which had fencing on both the side of the road. The roads after the Tamil Nadu check post to Gudalur was winding and narrow.
Gudalur town and the Nilgiris !
Bamboo Trees!
Almost 2 hours after I crossed Gudalur, I was riding on a stretch of 10 kilometers where the roads were completely covered with eucalyptus trees on both sides. For me, that was one of the most stunning landscape I've ever witnessed. The sunlight struggling to get through the thick forest, that particular stretch was just absolute magic! I stopped my bike, clicked some pictures and let myself submerge in the beauty of that place. Had a 20 min break and I started my ride towards Ooty.
Felt like heaven!
Posing like a Boss!
My favourite shot of the trip!
Nilgiri means Blue Mountains. It's true to its name!
View from the coffee shop
Got a chance to enter a tea estate just before Ooty
Finally I crossed the chaotic Ooty town by 5 pm and I was just 25 kms away from Coonoor. I was now riding next to the legendary Nilgiri Railway. By 6 pm I reached Coonoor and check into my Hotel soon.
Most scenic view of the Nilgiri Mountains. Clicked on my way to Coonoor
The view was just spectacular
Shiva Temple next to that spot.
View from my Hotel.
Headed towards Coonoor town for a coffee.
Sat down for dinner next to a huge window through which I could see the entire town. It was magical, a town which was extremely chaotic had now suddenly become extremely calm and serene. I ordered for a Hot and Spicy soup and a Chicken Biryani. Crashed on the bed by 10 pm and kept the alarm for 5:30am as the hot water supply was only till 6 am!
Time Spent on the Saddle: 8 Hours
Distance Covered for the day: 265 kmsA new Day, a new Journey, a new Story!
