Day 1: Bangalore - Bisle - Sulliya - Coorg

It was just me and Harsha on the first day as Tapa had to finish some work in the office. As usual, we headed early from Bangalore, and soon we were cruising on the Bangalore Hassan highway. As always, the cold grows mutli fold once you are close to Kunigal. But I have never seen fog as we experienced in this stretch. I could not even see whats in front and it was all white and yellow!

There was no sun rise visible too, too much fog around. But we saw some really beautiful vistas.

Shanivarasanthe to Bisle. Roads were beautiful. We had breakfast and when were about to leave, Harsha spotted a nail in his tyre. Got it fixed and headed on as we did not want to risk a flat tyre in the desolated Bisle.

Initial patch towards bisle was being relaid. Looks like the road will have a fresh coat of tar by end of year. And once we got into the forest, the back breaking journey started pebbles, stones, and mud and amazing forest around was the setting for the next few hours.

Once out of Bisle, we were on Subrahmanya Sulliya road, and it was a big relief after the torture of Bisle. Smooth tarmac, winding curves, beautiful forests, the only grouse was the sweltering heat. We reached Coorg by 3PM and spent lot of time finding a place to stay. As it was Christmas eve, most of the lodges and stay options were filled. Luckily found one home stay that was vacant for a day and with the promise from the owner to find us an accommodation for the next day, we were settled in a cozy 3 BHK house.

Tapa joined us at 12:30PM and after a casual "spirited" round of talks, we hit the bed.

Coming up next- Adventure at Mandalapatti and a few waterfalls.

Mandalapatti - Abbey falls

We were excited to go to Mandalapatti, especially after seeing pics of Jeeps standing on top of the hill with lush green scenery. We were out early and headed towards the hills.

The jeep guys try to talk you into getting a jeep instead of riding citing the dangers. They are correct in a way, but what fun is it to sit in a jeep holding on to your dear life . So we continued ahead ignoring them.

We went towards the viewpoint. The roads.. a slight mistake, and it can cost you a lot. Its a dirt track with boulders !! There was this gang of bikers who I guess were trying to race or something. They had pillions and were flying through all this. Overtaking dangerously .. and one had a fall, right in front of me while descending a slope. Luckily they were not hurt, but that was really funny to see them try to fly and fall like a bird shot at its wings

We dropped the viewpoint as it was crowded, but we picked a peak which stood tall and took our bikes to the top..

Amazing scenes and fog adding to the beauty.



We were heading back, when we saw this peak. The access was blocked with stones and the climb was super steep. We thought we will take the bikes to the top. Harsha refused, and after a small pep talk he agreed. We had to push and help to get the bikes to the top, but what we saw once we reached up made all the effort feel good.







Got shouted on by a policeman once we got down. He was mad at us for ignoring the signboard which said danger and stuff. We sheepishly left after saying sorry

We headed to Abbey falls. It was way too hot and the trek added to the heat drained all the energy.





Huge web, huge spider, I almost had become spiderman that day after running into this web.



We headed back, tomorrow we were headed to Chickmagalur. Spent the evening roaming around in the town and went to bed.
