Preface : In the last few years , I have almost covered all of HP and Uttrakhand on my RTR 180, I did Jalori Pass, did Gangotri late at night, covered CHopta in snow storm and few other trips. me and my friend Samrat (Sam) had a pact that we will travel every 6months to some hills and keep the tourer in us alive. Last year in October due to some reasons we were only able to do weekend Lansdowne trip (my 4th visit) and since then we were craving for hills. Few hiccups, or some personal reasons cropped up every now and then and we kept on postponing our trip.
It was last month or May end (I guess) when I planned its high time that we should tour, my bike needed good servicing so was waiting for that to happen. In the mean time, some kids showed their interest in joining us, but later we chose not to tag them along (I have high hatred towards immaturity).
Anyways we decided to ride to Chanshal Pass and explore that part. Here Shivanshu's log helped us a lot, rather i kept on bugging him regarding stay and what not. Thanks buddy for all the help.
Me and Sam had 3 days to spend so we decided to leave on 2nd July and be back on 4th July
Day 1 (2nd July) : We planned to leave at 2am as we wanted to cover as much as possible by the time its morning and as there was almost 200kms of plains to cover. But destiny had other plans. I was not able to sleep that night and 1am , I called Sam and he woke up. we decided to meet at our meeting place at 1.45am. But by 1.30am it started pouring cats and dogs. We decided to wait till it subsides. And that wait lasted for one hour and we were already pissed off. Anyways we met at 3am and started rolling on wet roads.
My bike which is now 65k on odometer , have 4 heart transplants was easily cruising at 70-75kmph. We took a small break at GT karnal by -pass and then at Panipat for cup of tea. We were already lagging behind schedule so we thought of keeping 80kmph pace all through out the plains.
But again , near Karnal we saw black clouds hovering in front of us. so we decided to put on our rain gears. It was 6am when we did that and since then these never came off. Yes we rode for 12hours in rains. Took breakfast stop 10kms before Yamuna nagar, only to find that even after 1hr halt, its still pouring. We continued our ride and saw a big group of Bulleters going towards Chakrata.
We crossed Ponta Sahib, took small shelter breaks in between as me being the specs guy have to take halts in between.
As soon as we crossed Vikas Nagar, we came to know that there are two different routes that lead to Chakrata and then to Rohru/Chirgaon. Localities said that we have to take Tuini route as the second one is closed. We moved ahead only to find that 35kms before Chakrata, the roads after every turn is either cave dit or broken or we can see pebbles falling from above. yes we have entered landslide area. We noticed that the bullet group has already crossed so I was hell bent that even I can do it, but we met 6 more people on 3 bikes who too were aiming for Chakrata. They moved ahead and we waited under a a make shift shelter only to find out that they were back in 5minutes. They told us that they literally saw rocks falling down which scared the sh*t out of them. We too decided to take U turn and decide what to do, it was already 3pm by this time. It has been more than 36hours that I have not slept , so the tiredness was seeping in with sweat inside and wet outside feel of the rain gears.
Now while coming down we saw Yamunotri which was around 140kms away, so we decided to go that way. Again after few kms of ride, we saw landslides and rocks on the roads, we crossed some of the area by literally removing the rocks by hand only to reach a spot where half mountain has come down on the road. I being the guy with literally no fear of death, even thought of taking the bike over that but somehow others convinced me of not doing it. Yeah I fall in that category who wants to explore by taking risks.
We again took a U turn and decided to stop at Vikas Nagar for the day and decide the next day where to head to.
Here is the teaser of the video that might give you an idea what the trip was :
