Re: Go . Goa . Gone + Maharashtra ON

          Plan :

As 6th july was a holiday on the occasion of Eid, we planned a ride to Goa. "We" here refers to two of my school time besties Nishchay, Harish and myself(Souritra Ganguly). The main agenda of the trip was to visit Dudhsagar, but that got cancelled after I did my homework on Dudhsagar. Sadly Dudhsagar waterfalls is closed for visitors.

Plan was to start on 5th July around 10 pm, after some sleep after we get back from our offices. But plans do fail.

Day 0 : Start from Hyderabad

Shock : In the afternoon, one of my friend dropped a bomb saying his leaves got rejected. At the last moment, these heartless MNCs do this. I still had hopes he would manage somehow.

Also ran here and there after office, to get foot pump as we did not have one. finally borrowed it from our friend. Also Nishchay came back from his office at around 9:30pm, we (me & Harish) tried to persuade him to just forget it and join us for the ride and nothing much would happen. .. However Nishchay was not convinced to take the risk which could have costed him his job.

All these drama went on till 12am. So NO sleep, NO rest, whole day of office and it was 12am in the night and we finally decided that we two ( Harish & Me ) will start the ride.

With a heavy heart and an "incomplete-feeling", we finally started off our journey at around 12:30am. It as drizzling, so we wore rain boots and kept our rain gears ready.

          The RIDE started :

We setup our GPS and started off, took us a good 50 mins to hit the highway although the city was deserted at that time. We were soon cruising on Hyd-Bang highway, after an hour on the highway, we pulled aside for dinner.

Had the same daal, roti & egg bhurji that we always have while touring. We tanked up our bikes to the brim before we diverted into state highway from "Bhootpur".

The roads were averagely good, we were able to do 70 - 80 kmph most of the time. Soon the exhaustion and fatigue came calling and we had to stop. The sleep attack was just unbearable. Spotted a decent looking petrol bunk in the middle of nowhere and just parked our bikes and died on the pavement.

          Day 1 : Hyderabad - Goa ..... continues

It was around 3:30am when we slept and got up at 5 am. I also took the advantage of the washroom and did my morning business before we resumed our ride.

One more problem : We were nearing Raichur, the Thermal Powerplant was already visible, when suddenly we noticed a road block. There was a big bridge just before Raichur which was either broken/or under repairing and they had erected a concrete wall to block the road.

Did a little GPS research and found out a bypass route which turned out to be quite a long way. Roads were really good with long highspeed corners. We were doing triple digits. I accidentally killed a bird which could not judge my speed and banged on to my right knee. Poor birdy. ... But got the Isle of Man TT feeling for few seconds.

We were riding through extremely remote areas with no dhabas, restaurants etc, not even petrol bunks for miles together. We were tired, hungry and wanted a good breakfast and some rest. Finally, after a lot of riding we reached a place called "Lingsugur" and finally stopped for a Masala dhosa breakfast. We realised that we should seriously take rest as fatigue levels were very high due to the extreme lack of sleep.

There was an attached lodge, we booked a single room for 450 bucks and slept for few hours. Got freshened up and resumed our ride. The day passed by putting on and off our rain gears as the rains were scattered. In the process, lost my riding pant's rain cover.

It was dark already, raining and we had a ghat section to cross after Hubbali-Dhadwad. The forest range was isolated and spooky. The ghat section before Mollem was ultimate. Clouds made our visibility Zero. we were literally crawling at 20 kmph. Also note that this highways is considered/believed to be "Haunted". I was so unaware of this fact till Harish told me after reaching back home. Sppoky things did happen like both our bikes stalled for no reason and battery got low leading to failure to start. All these things just kept happening and we just kept calm and somehow managed to ride.

Two trucks had a head-on bang in the ghat section which led to a long traffic jam. There were so many near-misses due to low visibility.

We finally reached our lodge in Goa (Colva) in the middle of the night at 2am. We had preb-ooked the room through Oyo for three people. We missed Nishchay throughout the journey.

Please excuse me for poor quality pics. I could not take out my camera the whole time.

Good going there. I am glad you took some breaks to rest up as tiredness leads to lack of concentration, which opens up the possibility of crashes. Personally, I wouldn't ride at night. Nevertheless, its good to know you both reached safely. Do keep posting about the rest of your ride

Apart from reaching Mapusa, the road after sinquelim is a bit confusing, specially in night. The Mollem route is way better and straight. And they had to reach Colva :P

Clicked this on an isolated stretch at very low speed (20-30kmph). Anyways, won't do it from now on as I realize this can be hazardous.

Re: Go . Goa . Gone + Maharashtra ON

                        Day 2 : Goa [ In and around ]

As expected after a long tiring ride, we woke up late in the afternoon, headed straight towards "Martin's Corner" for a brunch. The suggestion came in from one of my friends Sumit from Pune. Food was amazing, We had Goan-Prawns, Goan-Chicken, Veg fried Rice & Virgin-Mojito. Amazing ambience and food, a must visit when in Goa.

After the brunch we planned for "Canacona". We left with minimalistic things with us which included camera equipment and some snacks. Just after we reached the beach, a guy asked us if we want to see the back waters. We immediately agreed for it and went for it. It was just amazing. calm and quite, mangroves all around. He also invited the hawks by throwing some meat pieces on the water. That was one awesome moment.

After that went to then "Palolem" beach, crossed the river that meets the sea and spent some time on the isolated island kind of thing. The beach was beautiful. Spotted some bikinis too.

Spent some awesome time and rode back to our lodge in the evening. After getting freshened up, went for a stroll near "Colva" beach and came across a Bar & Restaurant named "LEDA" where and amazing band "LYNX" was playing live music. Immediately I sat there listening to the music. Spent really some nice time listening to some of my favourite numbers : Hotel California, Careless Whispers etc.

Spent time on the Colva beach after having dinner at a small beach-side restaurant.

Came back to our room and decided to leave for Pune the next morning as there was nothing else we wanted to do/try in Goa. We thought trying to get into Dudhsagar would be a waste of time as everybody had suggested that its closed.

Personally, I wouldn't ride at night. Nevertheless, its good to know you both reached safely. Do keep posting about the rest of your ride
Having done many other night rides, we kind of have an inclination towards night rides due to lesser traffic, pedestrians & animals on the roads and other phenomenons like lower temperature etc. The main factor though is visibility which is solved by our upgraded lighting systems.

Yes, we do take rest when ever we feel we cannot carry any further as a tired brain can prove to be fatal in riding condition.

As Colva was the destination, we thought of taking the shortest possible route and hubbali-dhadwad looked ideal for that.

PS : we also did Chorla...keep following the log to know more
