On analyzing the whole issue, answer came out to be YES. I should spend on things I had been longing for so long. We all have been living under the reel of layoffs for 4-5 months now and have been facing real tough times. In January 2009, my company fired 9000 people from across the globe, which was around 10% of the workforce cut. More layoffs are expected if the situation remains grim.

But how the layoffs in bulks have been happening in recent times? Bursting of Housing Bubble? But that was in US. So how is it affect layoffs in almost all the sectors across the globe? Just like the way people were hired in wholesale manner, now people are being laid off in wholesale manner. I actually gave it a thought and decided to bang hard the reason for layoffs, with my passion for biking.

If you have noticed on your trip to a shopping mall, suddenly there are less people who visit shopping malls to have a meal (including thousands of corporate executives... you & me too) and if you can link it to the bottom line, the farmer who had invested in increasing the output of his farm land by taking a loan from bank or Micro Finance Institution, is unable to repay loan because there are less buyer to food items he produces. There is demand supply mismatch. And I am not yet considering problems of hundreds of people who are involved in the Processing, Supply Chain, distribution, wholesaling and retailing of food items which create thousands of jobs.

Agreed, not everyone can be blamed but there are plethoras of examples of people floating around who have misused their powers. Definitely you & I are more of victims and less of culprits, but we all are culprits in fueling the recession to grow bigger than we all anticipated. We should not be forgetting that we are part of the BIG CHAIN. And this recession is a CHAIN REACTION.
Governments are trying to boost consumer moral. They want everyone of us to spend. Because when we spend even 100 bucks, it creates a job for someone somewhere.
For example when you buy a car it creates jobs for welders, laborers, machinists, salesmen, truck drivers, security guards, engineers, designers and so many other people involved in manufacturing of car.

Or even when XBHPIANS do the burnouts, indirectly they might be creating jobs for people in Rubber Factory. ;-)
But people are so scared that by not circulating the money they themselves will be responsible for their own layoffs. People have virtually pulled back their hands in spending on the basic things they used to do like traveling, buying clothes, eating, boozing, buying gifts, dating, home furnishings, electronics, entertainment, books etc. So gradually they are becoming responsible for loosing their own jobs.

I am an Aerospace Engineer with a US Giant. My company employs now 75000 people in over 150 countries.
How my job is in danger?
Now the invested companies started feeling the crunch as the credit availability was hit harder. Companies had less money to support the operations of the company. They had to put a stop on lots of projects. Since the projects were put on hold & demand for their product was declining, thousands of people lost their jobs. As people lost their jobs simultaneous their personal spending got hit and demand further declined.
In order to support their daily lives people pulled back invested money from Banks and other money making instruments. Now they travel less, eat less, drink less, shop less and even excrete less (remember Toilet paper ;-)).

Most Companies took the decision of cutting down on travel cost. As customers & executives traveled less, the Airline Companies registered fewer passengers on board & their operational cost was hit. Now the Airline companies decided to reduce the number of flights between two destinations. As they did so, they also postponed taking the deliveries of the new aircrafts they had ordered.
Now since the orders for new planes have been put on hold, the Airplane Manufacturer registered less growth in sales. So they decided to manufacture less planes and lay off people since they were not anymore required. As fewer planes were getting manufactured Airplane Manufacturers canceled the orders to their suppliers. Also Airplane manufacturers put hold on the future projects (New planes in the making).
Now my company is one of the suppliers of major critical systems of an Airplane. Now as the orders to my companies are getting cancelled my company decides to cut down production and stop supporting the future programs. Now further less people are required. In such conditions people like me get laid off. What is fueling this further is Globalization.
So if people like me start spending but in a logical manner, somewhere it will have a positive affect on the economy. If I keep on spending on the stuffs I usually spend on (obviously taking a risk) I will be satisfied that I have someway helped the economy to recover. Even at the end of the day if I loose my job, I will be satisfied that I played my part till the time I could. Because I understand that somewhere my job was created because of people like me who spent money. People might call me a fool that I want to spend in uncertain market condition. The answer to that is, I will double my efforts in delivering even a simple job.

Next 4 days were spent in observing people & reading lot of market related news (which I usually do). I could not trace the happiness on faces of showroom owners when I visited different showrooms. Also the salesmen are ready to give you a better deal, so as to sell the product.

4 Days passed and the time came to start with the biking trip. I filled my bike with 500 bucks of fuel & set out for Thane, where I was to move ahead with my friend Amit, on the trip. He works with Raymonds in Corporate Branding. He is turning into a tourer & has built up the capacity to ride without taking stops. Having a P220 between his legs has made him a crazy rider & this is his first bike. So you can understand his excitement, how much control he can keep on the throttle even in congested traffic.

We started speeding as we wanted to cover the maximum distance in Daylight. After some 170 kms non-stop, we reached Shambmeshwar around 7 p.m and stopped for some tea. We did stop on the way to click shots 2 times but that was for 1-2 minutes. By the time we reached Shambmeshwar, it was already dark. We left from there around 7.30 p.m.
Reached ratnagiri around 9.30 p.m. Hunted for hotel. Very less tourists again. After having dinner we chatted & went to sleep.
Since nothing was planned for next day, we got up late and then enquired the locals for spots. Finding nothing exciting, we left for Ganpatipule. Again less crowded. We stayed there for 1.5 hours and left for Ratnagiri. But wait we took a wrong route while coming back only to realize it was an awesome route which took us to the most beautiful beach we saw till date. Completely desolate and clean, but dangerous. So locals too refrain from going inside water.

After reaching back to Ratnagiri, finding nothing exciting to see, we decided to leave for Mahabaleshwar right away. By the time we checked out from hotel, it was around 5 p.m and we had over 200 kms to cover. Again the same plan to cover the maximum distance in day time. We maintained good speeds of 70-80 kmph even on single lane highway after sunset. Only ghats were posing a problem after sunset, which decreased our average speeds to 50 kmph. After covering 150 odd kms non stop we reached Poladpur around 8 p.m and had snacks. Around 8.30 we took the turn to Mahabaleshwar.
The next 45 odd kms were challenging since most of the times we were the only two bikers moving alone on absolutely desolate road. The road was narrow & full of potholes road and we could only reach Mahabaleshwar around 10 p.m. Hunted for hotel & after dinner went to sleep.
Day 3 was more relaxed. But we had good kms to clock. After roaming in Mahabaleshwar which was again very less crowded (despite most preferred hill station in Maharashtra), we set out for Pune around 3.45 p.m & reached Dehu Road 6 p.m sharp. I was riding for first time on Pune Bangalore Highway and it was amazing feel. We could literally see kms away easily. Roads are nothing less than heaven.

After reaching Dehu Road (Just outside Pune) we had tea & I bid goodbye to Amit & threatened him to ride slowly. And then I started moving back to my home. Thinking the journey is over. Got a call from NitroSatya and told him about the 1200 kms road trip. I had hardly covered 6-7 kms, I get a call from Amit telling me that he has crashed. Oh God. Next moment I found myself riding recklessly on Highway. He had reach 14 kms away from the point where we had tea. I reached there after half hour to find him giving a first aid to himself. He had crashed at 100 kmph. His bike skidded on loose gravel. He had actually ran out of the road due to a car.
Fortunately nothing was approaching from back and Amit received just minor injury on his knee. Rest he was fit & fine. I took a sigh of relief after seeing him and abused him badly. Then I brought him back to Pune. He left the next day.
His bike got damaged from right side not majorly & is now in Kothrud service center for insurance claim.
The trip was complete and the motive too. I spent as per my capacity and was happy to do it. I might have effected .0000000000000000000000000001 % to the economy, if people get back into the same habit of spending, I am sure effect will increase exponentially. And we will see the stock markets shining and India rising again but with a bang.
Remaining pic in my next post.

Hereby, I also wish and hope that the recession, this 'slump' really ends soon enough. It has done enough damage already!
