  • [Photo Feature]: Bhai, kela ho gaya - A Tamil Nadu odyssey!

What else can one expect when a gujju bhai and a bihari launda decide to ride to Tamil Nadu?

For reasons best kept to the both of them, bengali folk entice them and therefore they manage their fondness with some "broken" bangla (bengali language) of their own.

    Scene 1: (4 months ago)
Enter gujju bhai SP. He's known as @plasmabhai to the other end of this world.

He parks his bike at the regular chai tapri where our bihari launda DS (yours truly) is waiting for him.

    SP: Kemon acho?
    DS: Khoob bhalo!
SP: Decembere kona ride plan ache?
DS: Yercaud? Kodai? Err... Mmmhhhh... ??? <sigh>
SP: Dhuuurr re boka! Konabhabe naa! <disgusted with the names suggested>
    DS: Acha. Rameshwaram habe?
SP: Je baat! Ashadhoron idea! Plan kortey hobe! Plan koro re baba..... <lost in his thoughts now>

Scene 2: <alteration in plans, will be revealed in the next post>

Scene 3: (2 days before Christmas <hindi mode resumed, because distress is best conveyed in a language both are fluent in >)
SP: Bhai, kela ho gaya re!
    DS: #&^$&@$@$^@$##@

Somehow, both guys managed completing the trip in the best way they could. One followed the plan completely 'with minor hiccups' while the other has his own story to tell! To know more, please stay tuned (office chores).

Teasers of the bakar they had during this trip!

    Shaolin kung fu classes.

    Sai Baba pictures present errrmmm...

    Praise the lord! Standard what???

A couple of hurrah moments for both riders.

Re: Bhai, kela ho gaya - A Tamil Nadu odyssey!

                  2 days before the ride:

                  SP: Bhai, kela ho gaya!
                  DS: Hain?
SP: Meri Bangalore waali flight fog k wajah se cancel ho gayi. Ab apna trip nahi ho payega.
                  DS: Ab kya?
SP: Sorry bhai, trip nahi ho payega.

Needless to say, both were heartbroken. Frantic calls were made to the hotels that were booked. Best case scenario was that if all went well, then this 3 days trip was to be cut short by a day. SP was reaching Bangalore in a bus.
                  Original plan was:
Day 1 - ride to Rameshwaram and explore the surroundings.
Day 2 - visit Dhanushkodi and proceed to Kanyakumari. Reach there by evening and see the windmills in action.
Day 3 - see sunrise and Kanyakumari and ride back to Bangalore.

Now, day 1 was eliminated. But the hotels played nasty. They weren't ready to modify the bookings at all. They said they can cancel the booking altogether but cannot refund the balance or any amount due to last minute changes.
This was a downer because both guys really wanted to do this trip. Last year the trip got cancelled due to some booking related confusions as well.

DS got in touch with SP and there was the one aspect of their camaraderie which shone above everything else - no ego!
Within the next few hours, it was mutually decided that DS would continue 'solo' fro day 1 and would be joined at the end of day 2 by SP who in turn would be riding 'solo' till Kanyakumari. This needed no cancellation to hotel bookings.

As planned, DS left Bangalore on Day 1 by 3:45 AM towards Rameshwaram while SP may have been sleeping in his bus to Bangalore.

DS wanted to see Pamban bridge before sunset (he wanted to locate the hotel in daylight) and a train crossing at the same time would be perfect!

Hotel Brindavan Residency, near the shore. (Agasthiyar Theertham street). Though I'd share all accommodation details at the end of the log.
