Day 3 : Holi (13th March)
As per plan we were about to get up at 6 and leave by 7am, but as usual we were late and could only leave post 8am. We rode till Palampur as per GPS only to be told by localities that the route to Delhi is from Kangra. May be we missed something in GPS or missed some cut. This added approx 50kms and an hour to our return journey. Even that couldnt stop us from stopping once in a while to click pic.
Being the day of Holi, my mom called up and asked us to be safe, and luckily we were not attacked by any color or water balloons while coming back.
We were hungry since morning as we only had tea in the morning. Samrat saw the word "tikka" and stopped at a dhabha on the foothills only to find the place to be pure veg. Had alloo paratha, tea and cold drink there and started for plains. We were anticipating 1hour jam so we rushed and just stopped once for sugarcane juice. Being holiday, the roads wee empty and we were constantly doing 75-80kmph on those well laid tarmacs
Interesting part starts here
I am a guy who opposes these religious processions which affects normal or other people's daily lives.
As soon as we reached Anandpur Sahib, we saw a long jam with vehicles waiting at the same spot for hours and people wearing turbans creating havoc on the road, not giving way to other road users and what not.
We filtered for 1km through the traffic and got stuck in sometime. We asked the localities about alternative route, they "showed" us the direction of the route , they were seriously idiots not even helping with one firm answer. In few minutes and asking othe people, we got to know that we have to literally go through the paddy fields (literally) and then follow the Beas canal.
We entered the paddy fields with much questions that if its safe or not, and while I was thinking that, I saw people going and coming to the fields with water bottle in one hand to "do the job". ya, you got it right, we actually saw why Amitabh Bacchan and Vidya Balan proposes bathroom in villages.
While going through these fields, my bike fell down, luckily it fell on a heap of grain, and no scratch nothing was there, also I managed to "keep" it down, rather than completely leaving it. We crossed that area, then a water stream which was eventually the water source for "washing the job". We somehow crossed this area, which again took around an hour. We came out of the fields and again got stuck in a jam. By this time , I was frustrated and pissed off the way these people or I should not say , but these villagers were idiots.
I was already wearing two full tee shirts and they were drenched in my sweat in this past 2 hour ordeal. We somehow found out the canal and started riding on an off road type tarmac for next 7-8kms. Himalayan glided over them, it was my bike which i thought was not equipped with correct tyres for that road.
Anyways we came out of that place and started riding on the highway.
As soon as we were about to reach Mohali, Sam asked me to look for a washroom, as his nature's call was very urgent
. He stopped at a petrol pump and went on for "his job", I waited there for 10minutes, charges both of ours intercom.
Just after this we stopped at a place for tea and biscuits and decided, not to stop for any food . Dinner was to be done at home. So we started again on the road that goes from the outskirts of Chandigarh, we were doing 70ish most of the times here as it was single lane non lit highway. As soon as we touched NH1, we increased our speed to 90kmph and stopped once for pee break, once for petrol, and once for tea.
Another thing that happened after our last petrol stop, I was in front doing 85ish , Sam was 3-4 car lenghths behind me, suddenly the truck in front of me, swereved, the front left tyre burst and the truck driver somehow managed to stop the truck from toppling down. This happened on a flyover type place, I started applying brakes slowly as there were cars behind me and they could not stop if I do panic braking. I actually saw tyre debris flying here and there, the truck was on its rim, which also broke in few meters and one of the rim rings came towards me, I kicked it with my leg, because if it would touch any of my tyre, I could have fallen. We both stopped few 100 metres ahead , to calm ourselves down and then started again.
This time we saw Delhi being 35kms and we decided to ride at 100kmph. It was around 12.30am we reached our respective homes, I was so tired that I felt everything was moving around me when I entered home. My mom was awake, had my dinner, played with my Buddy till 1.30 and then slept in 1minute (mom said this). And then next day I went to office on bike with swollen eyes and tired body..........
CBR Performance
Just once the bike showed high temp while I was in that stupid jam, or else for whole of 1100kms , it was on 3 bars. Also it started in single crank in that chilly weather too. The front contigo and rear IRC is not for muddy off road, need to change them to MRFs.
The high speed cruising was effortless and didnt exert any pressure on the bike. The brakes when needed were adequate, but still will get them checked soon.
One thing I learnt from this trip was, if you keep your body fit, you wont even feel the distance covered. I , seriously, didnt feel any pain on my arms, shoulders or even my rear. The only thing that was effected was my wrists because of constant throttle changing.
Also , Sam and me were constantly connected on intercom which kept us awake and we enjoyed the stupid talks and topics that we had.
One more place checked off my list, planning for next one begins........... When... Where....How.......will see.Last edited by prateek2210; 03-20-2017, 06:39 PM.Fare thee well xBhp, All the best for being the biggest name in corporate world
