Re: A Malabarian Sojourn - Wroom Couple goes on for 6 days Dosa and Coffee ride!

      CHAPTER 1 - “DAY 1”

      “Tragedy in the Blood”

      Day1 (Wed) –08th Nov 2016

      Route – Mumbai - Khopoli – Lonavala – Pune – Satara - Kolhapur- Hubli –Chitradurga (Kms – 800 kms)

“Some people are just born with tragedy in their blood” and Sachin is one such species amongst the many – What happened? Well you gotta read it here-

A week before riding is always so hectic, we had so much work and so less time especially when we were working for 12 hours every day, but in spite of so busy schedule we were always so excited to come back home and prepare for our ride - we had to install Bluetooth on my new MT Blade helmet, Sachin had to paint “Spartan and xBhp tshirt” for us, getting the stickers done, minor servicing in bike, some shopping etc etc…

Though our ride was planned since a month but the fun which you get while rushing at last moment cannot be compared with any..lol

In fact the night before the ride is always so restless and anxiety full that no matter how early you sleep you will never be able to sleep. Moreover we decided that we would complete our packing and will sleep at least by 12.00 in the night, so that we can wake up early at 3.30 and start our ride. But this never ever happened till date in our 2 years of riding career

Night Before the ride has always been like this

Finally after completing every small things we were all set to take some rest at 1.00 am. We trusted alarm to wake us up at around 4.00 am and as usual at 4.00 it started making harsh noise into our ears. I was like “Shutapp man, just 30 minutes back I felt asleep and…..”

We woke up at 4.30, had cup of <actually glass of > green tea, some biscuits and left for highways. Mamma came to see us off and handed us Vaishno devi Prasad, It’s her way of wishing us good luckJ even after so many rides she still gets worried <Guess all Moms are such, one lovely species in this universe>

Well, it was all dark when we started our ride, I love riding during early morning time with less traffic and the hope that the darkness will end soon and the sun god will spread this world with his bright rays.

When we are at home we never wake up before Sun rise at least riding awakens us before Sun and sometimes we are able to watch the beautiful sun rays dominating the darkness.

We stopped near Panvel, for breakfast in some roadside corner which was surprisingly not at all crowed, otherwise during weekends the scenario is such as if hotels are serving food for free. We had our all-time favorite breakfast of idly, medu wada, pohe and a cutting chai. I had 2 plates of Pohe because anyways we were going south ways so I was saving my appetite for some authentic idly and wada right from the south Indian people

In the morning while we left from home we removed all liners of riding jackets because we assumed that it will be too hotter and liners would make temperature of our body higher but to the contradictory it was so so so so sooooooo cold in the morning that it made unbearable for us to resist the cold wind and we were literally forced to take the 1st unplanned halt on the road. Later I realized that I was actually shivering and so was Sachin…I just sat at some random divider, took my face down and without even removing my helmet I dozed off for some 20 mints. When I woke up Sun was completely out and it was bit warmer, Sachin was happily clicking some shots from every angle, of course it delayed our plan of reaching Pune because we wanted to avoid Pune traffic but………..

By 8.30 we were in Pune and it was almost office hours for many so we started facing some traffic while bypassing Pune.

Sachin would be somewhere around 80kmph and he was riding in middle lane and there was one splendor who was tailgating Sachin’s bike and I was behind the splendor trying to overtake him, suddenly I saw something falling off from Sachin’s bike. For moment I was like “What the hell just happened?” The splendor guy applied a real hard brake which ultimately made me use the brakes too harshly which resulted into a slight rear tyre skid But ABS kicked and in I was fine.

After a moment when I understood that Mojo’s exhaust is rolling on the road I screamed on the bluetooth making him realize that something from his bike came off and is rolling on the road. He gave left indicator and stopped immediately. The splendor guy who was damn scared with all this thing also stopped with us, I offered him a water but he denied and left

Thank god he was safe and that exhaust did not hit him. The weight of Mojo exhaust would be roughly around 3 kgs or even more than that, just imagine if that exhaust would have hit that splendor guy or even me because mostly I always ride behind Sachin, thank god that either of things did not happen.

There was truck on 1st lane who was coming in good speed which pushed the exhaust on extreme right corner near the divider so that no vehicle hit that heavy piece of shit. Just imagine if I would have been riding ahead of Sachin, he would have never known that something came off his bike. It was one such tragedy which would have proved so hazardous not only to that Splendor guy but even to me, or that truck guy or could have hit to any other cars running at that bridge.

      Thanks a ton god!!

We walked half a km and gathered all the parts from roads which came off the bike. Sachin contacted few of his friends and enquired for Mahindra Service center which would only be able to help us to fix the exhaust back because local mechanics denied even touching Mojo because of his giant look. <Another disadvantage of such bikes>
We carried the exhaust inside our saddle bag and rode for 20 kms to locate Mahindra service center Near Swargate, traffic started getting from bad to worse. Finally after locating Mahindra service center we explained them the problem and luckily they quickly took our bike to fix up the things. Another good thing was the SVC was open at 9.15 which was really good.

The exhaust thing happened during our NE ride too around Dhule and at that time they did not had the exact material to fix up the things so they temporarily fixed the exhaust, in fact even the Mumbai service center never have the proper things to rectify anything. I would really appreciate Pune SVC because they had all the necessary material with them.

They took 1 hour to repair the stuffs for which they billed us around 1300 inr. Which was not bad because they also fixed couple of few other things and moreover they did legitimate work not the temporary one

From above thing we understood one very important lesson of life that bad things are for now and not forever, the exhaust incident made me recall our Ladakh ride when we were too amateurs, when even the slightest thing used to make us panic and raise our Blood pressure and now when such a hazardous thing happened we were like “Oh No Problem, we will get it fix” of course we thanked god for keeping everything safe but now our attitude has changed so much that we know it very well that we are on roads and such things will happen.

We failed many times during all our last rides, in fact till date we are facing issues where everything never goes perfect or according to plan, but we never gave up and we kept trying every time and we are still trying to be a better rider to be better human beings

We come to believe that all our past failure and frustration were actually laying the foundation for the understandings that have created the new level of living we now enjoy. So whenever anything bad happens don’t forget that it’s part of life!! Get out of the situation and MOVE ON!

After resuming the ride, Sachin was still scared about his bike so he was going slow and steady on roads whereas Jarvis was irresistible to touch hundreds...but again he always likes to be around his buddy so he was going slowly too. When we left from the SC, we asked a passerby for the route that will connect us to the highway and surprisingly he suggested a route which was single lane Ghat which was so scenic and beautiful that it was much better than those monotonous highways. After 20 kms we connected to highway and stopped to take 1st pic of the day.

Finally everything was going smoothly and we were back on track and hope everything goes well from here on. We reached Kolhapur at 3.00 in the afternoon and stopped near McDonalds which is right on the highway. It’s good to eat junkies while you travelling, especially McDonalds keep you light and full for longer. They were celebrating women’s day there and the environment there was so cheerful.

After spending 40 minutes we left from Kolhapur and targeted to ride for atleast 100 kms and only then we should take a stoppage. We were already tired because of pune – satara diversions moreover the weather turned to be too hot which started making us more tired. We carried Red Bull which we thought to drink whenever we feel too tired because 1st day we thought to reach Chikmaglur which wasn’t possible at all and by that we were clear about the situation that it was already 5.00 pm and we were still 300 kms away from Chitradurga so we had to take our 1st halt at Chitradurga for the night.

We always avoid making any bookings for 1st day because we are a catastrophic kind of people where none of our ride till date has gone smooth. So more 300 kms and we assumed that till 12.00 am we should be able to reach our 1st destination.

We drank one red bull which contains 80 percent caffeine which really helped us to ride harder and longer, it gave us some magical kind of alertness even on those boring, monotonous highway. Actually it was 1st time we had red bull because normally drinking such drinks is not good for health because of so much caffeine but again when you have to ride and be alert it’s always good to have such miraculous drinks and keep riding. Many take protein bars during rides but we did not wanted to take a chance and so we thought to stick to energy drinks.

Experience is the best teacher, sometimes in life your situation will keep repeating itself until you learn your lesson. We learnt that 1st day of riding should always be planned in such a way where you have to ride less kms and take more breaks and enjoy yourself and give your anxiety a rest because you have a sleepless night, your body is already very tired after doing all the pre-preparation of the ride and the excitement and anxiety that makes you more restless so if you ride more kms on 1st day there is always a chance of error. So we learnt from all our past rides that 1st day of ride should always be chillax one and then from the 2nd day onwards you can ride hard and plan something where you can push your body and try achieving the things you planned.

We faced some traffic at Hubli –Dharwad single lane and people seriously ride and drive too bad on those roads especially during dusk when visibility is already so less. We took couple of halts more before reaching Chitradurga one for dinner which was seriously needed and also because we cannot torture our stomach by keeping it empty and another one at petrol pump because last 50 kms takes ages to finish.

At around 8.30 we booked a room in hotel online which was very near to highway because we were in no mood to search a hotel at 12.00 am which will take all the leftover strength from our body. Luckily we found a really good hotel just on the highway

Finally we reached Chitradurga and checked in the hotel, completely drained and tired but happy to at least make it up till there. 11.30 P.M, 800 kms with a tragedy NOT BAD.

We wanted to reach Chikmaglur but again it’s the unexpected that changes our PLANS and we are absolutely ok with it until and unless there was no harm and everything ended on happy note.

Day 2 is going to be more exciting because we were about to meet single curvy roads, tall trees, some greenery and fresh air.

I had to sacrifice so many clothes for that saree
On a serious note for 6 days we had enough place to keep all the required things in on saddle bag, Two tank bags and one tail box, in fact we kept smaller tank bag in the box.

While on bike rides always carry what is really needed.

                  CHAPTER - “DAY 2”

                  "Riding the twisty”

                  Day2 (Thursday) –09th Nov 2016

                  Route – Chitradurga - Hiriyur - tarikere - Kadur – Chikmaglur – Mudigere – Sakleshpur – Kushalnagar- Madikeri (400 Kms)

Stay : Thelma Homestay (1400 for two), booked via Goibibo

We woke up at 8.00 with this happy realization that finally it was the day when we were done riding on those monotonous roads and meet the sexy curves. It was more 35 kms on 4 lane highway from Chitradurga to Hiriyur and from there on it was all scenic single lane road till Coorg.

We went downstairs to serve our appetite and I was so so happy to have those authenticate idly and Wada. South Indian people prepare magical idlys, wada, dosa so delicious that even if you are full you will crave for more. We also had upma and sheera but it’s still a mystery that who puts cloves in sheera? <That is lavang or laung in Hindi> somebody please answer.

We packed up and quickly left the hotel because we were irresistible getting lost into the scenic single lane ASAP. The best part of staying in that hotel “Naveen Regency” was it was too nearer to highway, Just a 5 mins ride and you are on your way to next destination.

We rode for some kms and stopped to buy a water bottle where we also enquired for a correct path to reach "Kadur" via Tarikere, we always prefer asking a shopkeeper or passerby or auto rickshaw or truckwala people for route rather than setting up GPS for the locating us to correct route. The most important reason to this is we like talking to local people someone who is of different customs and try in all possible way to help us out. Many times it gives us laughing fits by the way they show us direction. Of course there is Disadvantage too sometime we are misled big time.

Something similar happened when we were enroute towards Coorg. There was 2 way to reach one was short cut with bad roads and another was long cut with good roads which goes via tarikere, but the local guys directed us to such a route which was the short cut but badly broken roads. We took that road to ride because we were unaware of another route which we could have taken but it was too late when we realized this.

Riding on broken roads in scorching heat will make your body weak, your visibility dull which might open doors for mistake, so make sure you keep hydrating yourself time to time and take good breaks to keep you and your body calmer.

Temperature would be easily around 40 degree or something and the roads were completely deserted. We were not able to go above 50 kmph because of bad roads. In the morning, I was so excited to meet the single lane roads and some greenery but neither the roads were good nor there were any greenery around.

We rode for some more kms on those tortuous roads and then road miraculously turned into good roads and some tall trees started meeting us and moving backwards as if something is running in fast forward. I accelerated hard and reached 80 after long time. It was happy realization that bad roads are gone and scenic roads are here to welcome us.

I felt my lungs inflate with the onrush of scenery—fresh air, giant trees, good roads. I murmured into Bluetooth device and said it to Sachin ‘This is what it is to be happy.”
Obviously we were forced to stop at one of the spot to click some photos with beautiful tall trees of Arecanut, moreover Sachin was pissed off since morning because he did not get to photograph much.

Sachin was busy clicking some shots when I stood there silently watching the trees, they were in a bunch and was looking absolutely gorgeous. Not just beautiful, though—the stars are like the trees in the forest, alive and breathing.

And for a moment I thought as if they are watching us and wanted to talk. I don’t know but you might be feeling dramatic after reading this but this is what I went through standing in front of those giant trees.

These days we are living on this planet as if we had another one to go to. Really is it so important to cut trees and build huge buildings and industries just to earn some extra money and invest those in hospitals because that is anyways going to happen because of increasing pollution…You really gotta give a think on this point.

We clicked some photos and quickly proceeded from that beautiful spot because it was almost 3.00 pm and coorg was more 250 kms which clearly meant that we had to ride in dusk and riding in dark in those bad twisty is really horrific, moreover we would have to be very careful because twisty can turn into real pain, if you miss your focus even for a minute and those “S” roads of COORG is frightening. If there is a sunlight and you are riding its happiness but at same time if you are riding during night the same roads turn into sadness

It was 7.30 in the evening and we thought to take a quick break for tea which was really needed to keep our mind fresh because it was more 100 kms to reach Coorg where we already did a booking via Gobibo 15 days before our ride date.

The hilarious thing which happened here was 15 days before the onset of our ride we booked a room and Coorg was the 1st place where we started our booking with. After searching for 2 hours I found an awesome homestay in only 700 buks to stay in Coorg. I opted for homestay because normally that category is always reasonable with clean rooms.

Lights were switched off and we were almost in snoozing mode when I asked Sachin to check out the pics and reviews of the homestay and He was stunned to see the location of the room and awesomely furnished villa. Sometime good things knock your door in middle of night and you shouldn’t let it go. Sachin immediately got his credit card details and booked the room because there was only 2 rooms left and we did not wanted to miss out with this homestay.

Now the tragedy here was, when we booked hotel via Goibibo it by default takes 1 adult in a selection criteria and displays the price of the hotel and the same differs if you increase the adult to 2 or so…we came to know this when we got a message from hotel saying we have a booking for 1 adult.

\We saw each other and laughed insanely for 10 minutes because Sachin was constantly teasing me that “tune apne rehne ka bandobast kar liya ha mera kya?, mein kya balcony ya fir road par sounga” <You have done booking only for yourself, am I supposed to sleep in balcony or on roads >

Sometimes blaming each other for the mistake and fighting turns into so hilarious conversation that you will die laughing. We called homestay people and confirmed them about 2 adults stuff and that we would pay the extra bucks for the same. So in short whenever you book anything online check, recheck and make somebody to review it.

It was 9.00 pm and we were still 50 kms away from Coorg. The roads were so bad and by bad I mean continuous zig zaggy, our head was spinning so bad that for a moment I thought that I am done with this spiral thing now, I can’t focus now, I can’t ride!!

“When you are going through pain and something which you don’t like, KEEP ON DOING! Sounds strange but it does wonders to your soul. That satisfaction which you get after doing the thing which made you suffer cannot be compared by any. So keep calm and keep moving, heaven is just testing your ability. Aur jab ability par baat ah jaye, tho (and when question arises on your ability) we really gotta show how capable we are , but remember, there’s a thin line between confidence and over confidence.

One by one we kept killing the zig zaggy roads and after every completion, it felt so good. I was happily and positively riding ahead of Sachin because of my good headlight when suddenly Sachin started talking about paranormal activity stuffs, just imagine that you are riding around 11.15 p.m. on some unknown road with nobody around you, extremely noiseless road, darkness, moreover you are surrounded by tall trees and adding to flavour is, in between you also see those horrifying looking banyan tree. DAMN !! I WAS HORRIFIED!!

I asked him to be quiet but he was enjoying it more because he already knew that I am very much afraid of ghost and ghost stories. In fact when I am home alone I keep all the lights switched on including the balcony and passage light. Every little thing on road started appearing to me as ghosts, in fact I also started getting the illusion with lady standing in white saree and asking me for lift.

I wanted to stop for locating a washroom on those dark roads but I was so horrified that I strictly warned Sachin to shut his mouth and suddenly something happened which made me numb.

Few minutes back Sachin was talking to me and now his voice wasn’t audible to me, I saw in rear mirror I could not even see his headlight focus. That moment I tell you my friends, I felt like I should just quit this riding thing for ever and run away somewhere.

I peeped back in rear and I saw Sachin riding towards me, He said his Bluetooth device battery died and his Mojo stopped abruptly because of less fuel <it normally happens with Mojo whenever there is less fuel in it and by less I mean even if fuel indicator shows 1 lines, the bike starts abruptly switching off, this is one more Mojo’s disadvantage which Sachin spoke about in his video>

Oh my lord I was so haunted and tensed that all this things had to happen when we were having the worst paranormal activity talks….SHIT…
I asked Sachin to ride ahead of me because I was no ways riding ahead of him now.

More 20 kms and we reached our homestay which was away from city hassle and somewhere at very quiet place and isolated place. We checked in and rested our tired spine on bed which was desperately asking for some rest. .

Room was too big for just 2 of us with some weird painting on front wall. I stared at it for some time and I started recollecting all the horror stories yet again….but thanks to Jarvis <my bike> who made me so tired that I don’t even remember when I felt asleep.

That night all the lights of all the rooms were ON

Day 3: Some sightseeing in Coorg and then it was time to hit Kerala!!

Evening tea and some road side snacks and Chutter Putter, just like kids time. (Ignore the Phone click)

                                CHAPTER 3 - “DAY 3”

                                “Greeny Vibes”

                                Day3 (Friday) –10th Nov 2016

                                Route - Coorg - Virajpet - Kattikullam - Sulthan Bathery – Wayanad (130 Kms)

Sometimes when you see so much greenery around you, you start feeling some strange kind of vibes around you which fills your life with so much positivity that you want it to inhale as much deep as you can and fill your body with freshness which ultimately refreshes your life and soul and I call that vibe as “Greeny Vibe”.

I read this somewhere “Vibe high and the magic around you will unfold” you should always aim high like arecnaut trees and then it will uncover the magic of positivity inside your body.

We woke up so refreshed that morning in Coorg between the natures. Our homestay was situated in middle of forest with so much green color around us that despite riding like dogs we were so refreshed that we quickly got ready to go for some sight-seeing and of course some breakfast.

Homestay has disadvantage that you should never expect a facility like you get one in hotel, you will not get anything to eat, no room service and whatsoever. In fact we like that because we hate if anybody disturbs us by treating us and making us feel that we are out. In fact we are so bored answering the same questions again and over again that “Why you guys ride 2 different bikes?” Now what kind of answer will you give to such kind of questions, so we do the best thing “SIMPLY IGNORE”.

We thought to go to “Raja seat” which was very nearer to our hotel and grab some authentic idlis, wada with some coconut chutney and yummy sambar and then we visited Raja seat which is a normal kind of garden with some scenic view which you can also see in Matheran in closer to mumbai, personally we did not like it that much because we have already seen too much beauties at many different places in India. You might like it, it’s just a personal opinion.

Another good thing was the place was less crowed because we visited there early morning, so in that case the garden was completely ours

We posed there insanely and clicked some mind-blowing memories. Make sure whenever you pose crazily in front of camera don’t ever think #CharLogKyaKahenge even though you do nothing they are anyways going to speak about you , so better is you do something and give them the point to discuss because then their talks might not be pointless

When we were posing in different weird ways, there was a family who was staring at us in such a way as if they will shoot us with their naked eyes and then as usual there round table conference started pointing us which we ignored and posed more crazily than ever before and then hopelessly they stopped the discussion and left the place still giving us those weird looks.

Don’t stop living according to your terms because you are surrounded with such people who are never going to meet you ever again in future.

We left to hit the curves of Waynad because we seriously did not wanted to ride during night especially on those dangerous curves. We also got a buzz from our homestay owners because they were worried that whether we left from there without intimating them or what and we were supposed to pay remaining Room rent as well, so we gave them hope that we would return back and pay their bucks not to worry. Do we look criminal by face? Or maybe they would have thought that we ride 2 different bikes so we can run away quickly. lol

We returned to our rooms, took rest for some time packed up and left to ride on Waynad curves. Though we were feeling damn tired after all the exertion we faced since last few days infact we rode like cats and dogs but when you swing your leg and sit on your motorcycle and twist those throttles some different kind of energy rush throughout your body and then you are all ready and charged up to ride miles and miles.

It was 1.30 p.m. when we started discussing about what lunch we would be having, actually we can discuss hours and hours related to food and riding, once we were talking till 3.30 a.m. about riding, bikes, gears and different authentic food to eat at different places. Something similar happened that day we were finding a descent non veg hotel to serve our appetite because since we started our trip we did not had any kind of non-veg food

                                ******

Sachin: "Have you seen that video where chicken is cut into 2 pieces and then cheese liquid pops out and spreads all over and the person who eats it says TASTY!!

Kiran: "Leave that, do you remember the outer red masalaful skin of chicken and bit burnt outer cover especially when chicken is grilled or tandoored with shiny butter on it”.

Sachin: “I am even tempting for Paya soup”

Kiran: “Muje sirf Briyani mil jaye tho maja ah jayega” (if i get biryani I am done with my life) haha

                                ******
My stomach shouted at us saying Will we keep your mouth shut and concentrate on searching some better restaurant. I am dying with hunger <seems we were using bluetooth device at the most optimum level>

Finally we found a place where we could serve our hungry wild stomach with some real chicken...we ordered for chicken masala and rice because unfortunately they only had that dish to serve us, I really wanted some kababs but I was forced to be satisfied with those half cooked chicken which also tasted so delicious. I saw Sachin licking his finger, I warned him of not to eat those half cooked chicken but as usual he did not wanted anybody to interfere between him and chicken.

Later we resumed with our ride and rode sincerely for next 100 kms. We reached Wayanad at around 4.00 and thought to visit Banasura dam which was just 20kms away from our resort. But unfortunately that 20 kms turned out to be 50 kms for us because many people misdirected us to the wrong path.

Finally after 2 hours we reached the spot, parked our bikes and rushed to the ticket counter because after 6.30 p.m. they don’t provide entry tickets to view the dam. Luckily we got the entry and we started walking towards the spot from where we could view the dam, it was 20 mints walk..

You know what the real pain is that - to walk with all your gears on in 38 degree temperature, lifting your heavy Tank bags and helmets and you have almost reached the spot when you suddenly realize that you haven’t taken off the keys from your bike and your bike is all alone in parking lot where any tragedy could occur, anybody can take away your bike and run. Yes it was me who forgot the bike keys, I have this very bad habit of forgetting to remove the bike keys whenever we stop anywhere. Sachin has warned me thousand times to remove the bike keys as soon as you pull down the side stand but...

I ran back to the parking lot and started searching for Jarvis. I entered a different parking area and wasn’t able to locate my bike. After running from one parking area to another for 10 mints, I found a correct place where we parked our bikes and ran towards them, I switched off the engine and removed the keys, promising myself that I will never be so ignorant with my bike and keys ever.

I walked back for another 10 mints and met Sachin where he was waiting for me with all the luggage and both the helmets. We quickly walked towards the dam, climbed some 100 steps and viewed the beautiful Banasura dam, the good thing about summer is sun never sets before 7.00 p.m. and so we luckily got to view the beautiful sun set.

We like sunset more than sunrise, we don’t know why but it feels beautiful to see sun setting at one side and moon rising at another side and that feeling that one more day has beautifully ended on good note. Though we were misguided by many to find the correct route to reach the dam but we did it and we were there at that beautiful spot happily watching the colorful sun set

We clicked few lovely pics and left from the place with the satisfaction that no matter how hard we rode and painfully we were struggling to find the route, we reached the dam on time, got tickets on time and got to relax and spend the evening at one of the most beautiful place in Wayanad.

Our resort was situated far away from city so we rode for good kms and reached our resort around 8.30 p.m. the place was beautiful and our cottage were covered with tall trees from all the sides which made the weather so cool and pleasant.

Again our appetite demanded for some chicken, so we ordered chicken chilly and some hot dark coffee for our evening snacks and for dinner we ordered chicken masala, chapatti, rice, buttermilk and called it a day with loads of food, scenic Banasura dam, beautiful resort and pleasant weather to top up the menu.

We dozed early that night because we thought to wake up early and leave early to meet our dream of riding on those gorgeous 36 hairpins which goes to Ooty, but It’s a saying that unexpected and unpleasant things can knock your door without even realizing what hour of the day it is. Day 4 was BAD!!
