  • A Short Morining Ride That Turned into A Mammoth

This is my second attempt to write a trip log.Last time in crashed in the mid and couldnt complete it.hope this time I write a full log.

It was the day to cast vote in Pune and I had holiday in office. However as I am not a voter of this contituency hence it was a free day for me.

As the coming holidays(1-may) I had some other plans and also I had missed many rides and GTG of XBHP Pune so just thought to go for an early morning solo ride to Lonavala.

I started at 6:30 am ,by the time I rached NH-4 destination was rescheduled to Mahabaleshwar as Lonavala was too close and I wanted to ride a bit long.

I was riding steadily at around 80-85 near katraj(pune) when I heard a superbike coming...By the time I saw the RV the bike passed me like a rocket and within secs it disappeared.it was a Red CBR 600 rr.this really charged me up and I opened the throttle and started doing 100+(a very unusual mode for me) .Passing the awesome katraj Tunnel was a delight.I had never done this at 110-115 speed. The sound of exhaust was pushing my adrenaline level higher and higher...

All of a sudden my bike started suffocating.it was missing some ignition cycles.I was scared, cursing myself why the heck I pushed it so hard(I had never run my bike 100+ for more than 2-3 kms).
I stopped, left It to cool down.tried to start again then I realised nothing ahs happened...reserve lag gaya hai bas...hahaaaa.It was a real relief that mah bike is healthy.

I returned back to nomal mode of 75-85 band.
In no time I reached Sri Ram dhaba.Had poha-tea.
took some pics on way to panchgani.
spend some time on the table top then headed towards Mahabaleshwar.

It is just 140kms since I started.bas itna hi?
    Isnt it low less??
its just 10am what will I do whole day???

so many questions popped in my mind.
Finally Destination was again changed to Murud-janjira(A fort that is 1/2 kms inside the sea).

Also in my last tour to Goa I passed through this route but missed Pratapgarh(another fort) due to shortage of time .
New plan was to skip mahabaleshwar. give a short visit to Pratapgarh then head towards Murud.

however while enjoying the ghats of mahabaleshwar I totally forgot to stop at pratapgarh

The road from Mahabaleshwar to Poladpur(goa highway) was awesome.40 kms of this road had atleast 30 kms of ghat that too well laid with lots of twisties.

Next 70 kms i took NH-17 till Kolad. the highway is really nice.I always rate it above GQ coz here we actually ride rather than sleeping on the highway with eyes and throttle open.

From Kolad to Murud ,it was again the ghats.this time single lane well laid ghat.traffic was almost null that resulted in a fast steady ride.I was like playing NFS(game).Really nice roads.

This is something I really like about maharastra. You go anywhre a road is there for you.Infact from Roda to Murud(30 kms) there were 3 roads to reach Murud.Amazing to see how they hav maintained so many roads that too ,the roads in ghats which is hard to maintain.Jai Maharastra!!!

finally I was in Murud at 1pm.took a heavy lunch then headed towards the Fort on a SAIL Boat.this was a good experience.
A few highlights of the fort.

--> Standing in the sea for last 1000 yrs.outer walls still intact.
--> 2 fresh water lakes inside the fort that stands in the sea.Amazing.
--> Other features were common as you find in any fort like Rani ka mahal...sheeshmahal aur pata nahi kya kaya...

I started back at 5 pm.ride was throgh Tamini ghats-Mulshi-Pune.

Roads of Tamini Ghat are bad that too when this was on last leg of my trip.I was trying to cover as many miles in ghats as possible in ghats before it gets dark.that resulted in a bumpy fast ride.Really bumpy.
i could have taken the PEN route but I wanted to make this trip mostly through the ghats of the lovely Sahyadris.

By 8:30-8:45 pm I reached CC then zipped through the NH-4 for Nigdi.

Finally the short morning drive ended up in a trip of 481 kms.

    some data :

Best streach : Maha to Poladpur(ghats)
    worst : Tamini Ghat
    Total Kms: 481
    Miledge : 43 kms/l
    bike : Pilsar 180 DTSI
Total bucks spend : 650 INR
charge for Boat(to and fro) : 15 INR only(so cheap)
charge for Guide in Fort: 20 INR(shared).
