Re: Ride to Kodai on my 40 year old YEZDI

Descending the hills was also fun and the weather was as usual amazing. We finished the decent and stopped for tea. Continued from there and it was a breeze till we reached Dindigul. We were riding in a nice formation, staying disciplined and maintaining a steady speed of 60kmph.
We had our breakfast at some random joint in Dindigul, the time was roughly 10 am. My B refused to start as we were about to leave. I didn’t have the patience to troubleshoot, so I put it in gear and Vicky pushed it, B fired and off we went. By now the weather started getting a little cloudy and gloomy but no rain. On our way to Salem, we saw rider Ravichandran on the sideway with this Roadking parked. He waved at us and all 3 stopped. His roadking gearbox shifter got jammed. This is a bad state and there is no riding further for him. After some quick phone calls from him, we were waiting for a pick up auto to come and transport the bike. The wait was long, at least 1-1 and half hours. Finally, the pickup truck came and we helped get the bike loaded. We continued our ride after saying bye to Ravi. By now it was very cloudy and was sure it was going to rain and rain heavily. I gave my phone to Vicky because he was carrying a waterproof pouch with him and had a rain coat as well, I thought it will be safe with him. Remember I lost my rain gear on this ride. This decision of mine gets me into trouble later though. We reached Salem without trouble, had lunch and continued. I don’t remember the time but it was afternoon. I was riding last with Rahul and Vicky in front, maintaining a safe distance from each other. We just covered some 2 kilometers after lunch and it started raining. The rain just got worse and worse. I was wearing a half face helmet with no visor and I wear spectacles too. I was riding literally blind now and lost sight of both Vicky and Rahul. I stopped, looked behind and in front to see if could spot them, but no sign. I continued riding slow, there was no way to spot them actually because of the heavy rain. As I was riding, every now and then looked back to see if my bags are still holding up. At one point, it fell. I stopped and walked back to pick up the bags. I removed the plastic covers and just carried my backpack and the sling bag on my shoulders. I was shivering and my hands were getting numb. The rain kept getting heavier. To be continued…

Re: Ride to Kodai on my 40 year old YEZDI

Somewhere in the middle of the highway stretch from Salem to Dharmapuri, my bike stutters and stops. I knew the water has gone into the carburetor. Rubbing salt to the wound, the passing vehicles splash water on me. There was no way possible for me get the tools out and get working on the bike in this situation. It was impossible and there was nowhere to go to. All I could do was just kick and kick and pray my B will start. After a lot of tries, B was alive again. I made sure I don’t leave the throttle and continued from there, but I had to take a break because of the weather conditions. Riding in such conditions, constantly wiping my spectacles to see what’s in front. I saw a bus stop and I decided to take a break inside. I managed to get my B inside too. I waited for some time but there were no signs of rain stopping. I was nearly 170 kilometers away from Bangalore. I decided to ride and only stop at home now. Continued riding slow in 40s and 50s. I remember this Scorpio closing in next to me and a gentleman lowering this car window and giving me thumbs up. I guess that just some little things that lift your spirit and I continued fearlessly. It continued to rain all the way till I reached home at 8:30pm…
