Descending the hills was also fun and the weather was as usual amazing. We finished the decent and stopped for tea. Continued from there and it was a breeze till we reached Dindigul. We were riding in a nice formation, staying disciplined and maintaining a steady speed of 60kmph.
We had our breakfast at some random joint in Dindigul, the time was roughly 10 am. My B refused to start as we were about to leave. I didn’t have the patience to troubleshoot, so I put it in gear and Vicky pushed it, B fired and off we went. By now the weather started getting a little cloudy and gloomy but no rain. On our way to Salem, we saw rider Ravichandran on the sideway with this Roadking parked. He waved at us and all 3 stopped. His roadking gearbox shifter got jammed. This is a bad state and there is no riding further for him. After some quick phone calls from him, we were waiting for a pick up auto to come and transport the bike. The wait was long, at least 1-1 and half hours. Finally, the pickup truck came and we helped get the bike loaded. We continued our ride after saying bye to Ravi. By now it was very cloudy and was sure it was going to rain and rain heavily. I gave my phone to Vicky because he was carrying a waterproof pouch with him and had a rain coat as well, I thought it will be safe with him. Remember I lost my rain gear on this ride. This decision of mine gets me into trouble later though. We reached Salem without trouble, had lunch and continued. I don’t remember the time but it was afternoon. I was riding last with Rahul and Vicky in front, maintaining a safe distance from each other. We just covered some 2 kilometers after lunch and it started raining. The rain just got worse and worse. I was wearing a half face helmet with no visor and I wear spectacles too. I was riding literally blind now and lost sight of both Vicky and Rahul. I stopped, looked behind and in front to see if could spot them, but no sign. I continued riding slow, there was no way to spot them actually because of the heavy rain. As I was riding, every now and then looked back to see if my bags are still holding up. At one point, it fell. I stopped and walked back to pick up the bags. I removed the plastic covers and just carried my backpack and the sling bag on my shoulders. I was shivering and my hands were getting numb. The rain kept getting heavier. To be continued…
