Re: Solo ride to ladakh 2017.

    Day 11

    Leh – Pangong.

Woke to parallel twin roaring in the parking of the guest house. To which I was surprised, wondering why would someone make so much of noise this early in the morning. Then it stuck me that , the riders from Mumbai were supposed to leave for depart for there respective work places. After completing my morning rituals I was ready and went down stairs to the parking and I meet them and bid them good-bye. After completing my breakfast now it was time for me to head out and enjoy pangong tso . Started around 8am and headed straight to the petrol pump , but on reaching I realized that its going to a long day . Waited nearly for 45 minutes to get petrol. As other bikes from different tour and travel agency were getting their bikes filled up so I waited for sometime , and after sometime I was informed that they have ran out of stock and need at least 30 minutes to get there tank filled up then only they can start refueling bikes and cars . So after that headed straight to karu , submitting my permits at the check gate being controlled by the Jammu and Kashmir police. Meet some other riders who were also riding towards spangmik , they were like let the adventure begin. Just 3 km ahead of check post and I was welcomed by the chemery monastery on my left . Stopped for some pictures and I could feel the thrill in me of being here and enjoy this view. Crossed shakti village and for a moment I was really in an emotional state of mind because in my front it was the big board displaying the names of the (highest passes we are crossing now and will be doing so in the coming days. ) And then I heard someone from the far shouting at me (aaooo ktm wala bhaiya) , and I was like did I got some friend who knows me or am I into some trouble . soon I got to know that it was those riders from Chandigarh whom I had meet at diskit who were riding there bullets and due to breakdown they had lost 1 day and now they are here at sakti village via warila . And I was like why I didn’t stop ??? where as I had enough time to spare and could have enjoyed the view.

Soon after having a small break I resumed my ride and some people coming from opposite side started showing hand signs for not going ahead as construction work is going on and the road is very bad and stones are falling from top of the mountain which is risky. I was like what the hell , then how come other vehicles are going , if it is such a big problem. So I waited for sometime so that I get confirmation from other people . And after waiting for some minutes I saw a vehicle coming from other side and he told me there is no such problem , as the road expansion work is going on so blasting work is going on , but when there is blasting the movement of vehicles will be stopped and after it’s over you can move ahead. With this I started to move and the view kept on changing with every passing time. Soon I was approaching the changla pass and took a stop at zingral for natures call and I was surprised to see that around 40 bikes approaching towards me in a convoy. And to my surprise it was the biking queens from Gujarat. The convoy was led by Vishnu Mehta , Sujoy Mondal and Sarika Mehta. I also got to meet them all and they were also were surprised to see riders from far east coast doing rides on some of the toughest terrains that too solo. After some photo session it was now time to move ahead and enjoy the mighty changla top. On the pass I stopped for very few minutes as I just wanted to have some maggi and tea , when I was just about to leave then I was surprised to see my friends from North East who were returning after their last night stay at Pangong. They updated me about the road conditions ahead and also asked me to be calm and slow on the roads ahead .

After the break it was now time to get down the pass and head towards durbuk and then on towards tansgste and ending the day at spangmik. while approaching spangmik the sun was setting down over the horizon and the mountains were shinning golden in colour, making it an amazing view . Realized that I am almost late then started rushing and soon the famous board pops up “ FIRST VIEW OF WORLD FAMOUS PANGONG LAKE” . To my surprise the colour of the lake was different then what I had seen earlier in the photos but realizing that I have finally made it to the make crossing all hurdles what in itself a miracle for me. It took me some time to get back in the present that with position of the sun the colour of the lake also changes . so when now in the evening its different then again in the morning it will be different . with that I started looking for room and one local person standing on the road started shouting room.... room... I was like ok lets see what he has to offer and immediately I was inside the room. Some 30 minutes inside the room and the winds started blowing and I could hear the swirling noise of the wind. The rest of the night was just spent gossiping with the local guys who owned that tent followed by dinner and scrolling over the gallery of the phone and then off to deep sleep.

Re: Solo ride to ladakh 2017.

      DAY- 12

Today it was my last day in Leh , as per my plan I was supposed to head towards Tso mrori via chumathang and make a night halt at camp site in Tso Mrori. The day started well with completing my morning rituals , packing my bags and then loading them on to the bikes , refuelling the tanks at karu with picking up extra 10litres of fuel in case I might need them. The roll had began , and then all of a sudden I got emotional and tears were rolling down my eyes . I stopped my bike on the side of the road removed my helmet and started crying . I just could not believe that I’m about to end my ride in the next 2 days from now as I will be hitting the plains and the whole scenery will be different then what it is now. After some 20 minutes of an emotional break , realising I might get late with passing time. Didn’t thought much and started riding and soon good roads were gone and bad roads showed up . The Indus river was flowing at a very fast rate and in some places even it was close to the road where my bike was almost hitting the river. Then only the thought came to my mind , “ should I go ahead or make it some other day” . asked the local people who were engaged in the road construction work that whether the road will improve or not as I proceed ahead . Their reply was 60 kms bad roads and then you can except some good roads .I was still in a dilemma. After waiting their for sometime army trucks started coming in and they asked me if there is any problem or what , “I asked them that I want to go to Tso mrori but I’m afraid of this fast flowing river” , there suggestion was if you want to go then go few places are bad but looking at your determination you can tackle it , but remember with every passing time and the sun shinning strong the flow of water and the strong current will keep on rising . What if I get into any trouble , yes you will get help but will take time. At the end there suggestion was to go via debring .

I decided to make some calls before I take the final decision keeping in mind that my bikes chain has not been cleaned since the day I started the trip and now it was giving out the weird noise , making me irritate. So after some 30 minutes the decision was made that I will no more ride towards tso mrori neither go there via debring ,rather I will head straight towards Manali . And then the return journey begins and soon I was crossing Tanglangla , then onto more plains . It was around 4pm when I reached more plains and that is where I decided to take a break as I had skipped my lunch . I stopped at a stall where I ordered maggi and egg omelette with tea , soon I was accompanied by a group of bicyclists who were on there way to leh from manali . We started chatting with each other regarding the road conditions they had crossed in pang and sarchu . They were kind enough in suggesting me to stop at more plains . But I wanted to ride till there was daylight . Normally the daylight in ladakh stays up till 1930hrs. So after a brief break it was now time to enjoy the plains and wait for the bad roads that awaits me after pang. So after an hour long fun I was almost there in pang and the moment I crossed the pang bridge I could feel like something is shaking in my back , and upon inspection it was found that my luggage rack bolts which connect to the chassis in the rear are missing . The rack used to hold the extra fuel , spares , tool kit and footpump. When I was confused what to do as there was less daylight remaining and bad roads have just started and the next place to stop for the night will be sarchu. Then a bunch of people who were travelling in a rented scorpio from Delhi stopped by me asked if do I need any help. I asked them to help in filling up my tank so that my luggage gets bit light and I can ride on this bad roads. They helped me and after doing so they asked me to keep my luggage in there SUV and travel light . i followed there SUV and they were driving ahead of me. Upon reaching we all had some hot chappati and egg omelette and called it day.

This is the particular place where I got emotional.
