  • [Photo Feature]: Kumaun To Garhwal. In the Hills of Uttarakhand.

So, finally got the time to type all this. Forgive me for any mistakes which may have crept in.

    Introduction
Me and my college friends were long planning a quick ride and visit to somewhere beautiful, somewhere in our own state. After a lot of brainstorming and putting up individual ideas and plan of routes, stay and day of start, we finally arrived to a conclusion. The decision was made that we will start from Nainital being the central location since the four of us belong to Haldwani, Bhimtal, Almora and Bageshwar respectively. We arrived at Nainital on the night of July 23 and had a walk, a lavish dinner and slept in time, planned to wake up early and ride in morning daylight (or morning darkness I should say).

    Planned route

Start point and end point - Nainital
(From Bageshwar, Almora, Bhimtal and Haldwani to nainital first)
    Day 1 - Nainital-Jeolikote-Haldwani-Ramnagar-Kashipur-Jaspur-Afzalgarh-Nagina-Nazibabad-Kotdwara-Dugadda-Gumkhal-Satpuli-Banghat-Chaitur-Devprayag
    Day 2 - Devprayag-Sirasu-Vyasi-Rishikesh-Haridwar-Bhaguwala-Sahanpur-Nazibabad-Kotwali-Nagina-Dhampur-Sherkot-Jaspur-Kashipur-Ramnagar-Haldwani
Day 3 - Haldwani-Nainital-Kurpatal-Pangot and back to our homes.
Total Distance covered around 1100kms for Day 1 and Day 2.

      The glorious weather.

See the streams, see it deep.

The bridge between Nagina and Nazibabad. We took the offroad route instead of the highway here.

See the road through the mirror.

      Somewhere near Vyasi.

Nature never ceases to surprise us.

Before the first ray of light.

      More coming !

Well done and super pictures. I have heard that Uttarakhand has some nice twisties paved with smooth tarmac, is this true? Asking because, this is one destination I am planning a ride to in Jan 18 from Pune.

                  Nice.
You could have returned via Gwaldum or Gairsain for more of the hills.

Buddy I did the trip in high monsoon season here and the roads to hills were mostly blocked. Original plan was riding through Bageshwar and up ahead to Srinagar but the roads were blocked so had to totally re-evaluate and re-route our ride. But will surely do these places soon. Right now the engine on the machine needs a new bore kit. So, very soon once I complete run-in.

                        DAY 2.>>>>>>>>>

So we had our dinner, booked a room at a local place and slept off. I was still awake though and calculating expenses and the other stuff. Next day morning greeted us with heavy downpour and we had to wait a little. So we ofcourse decided to explore the nearest places and set on foot to the bridge 100 metres away.

Sangam the meeting point of Alaknanda and Bhagirathi. One river stays clear and calm, water temperature is warm.
The other remains fast flowing and muddy, very cold water. Such contrast !

A closer picture of the contrasting rivers.

                          Small temple under a tree.

                          The temple we visited.

A minaret and we could not find a way to this.

The bridge I was talking about.

                          Uttarakhand is beautiful.
