  • A Small and Unexpected 450+ km Trip

My first trip log, I am not really into witting my experiences, but this this time decided to do so, so those who will found it not so interesting please skip this thread.............so here goes my fifth ride experience of more than 450 km.

Being in office its really hard for a long trip, and if your manager is tough enough, then its almost impossible, things like this always happens to me. Finally got a so called long weekend (3 days only ). But nothing was planned, as i don't stay at home so thought of spending this time with parents and someone not to mention here. On Monday a friend called and asked i want to go to Sikkim with them, they were going by train and that was not my kind of travel, so i canceled that. It was Friday night that something happened, everyone was going for a trip this weekend and i was going home, something didn't feel right, So i called a friend and asked him if he was free, it was 10 at night already. Luckily he was free, so planned a trip to Mandarmani and Digha for the next 1 days. Yes we planned to return the same day. So we packed everything we need and started at 12 am. Two guys and a 160 cc bike. Our idea was a little risky but we planned to see the sunrise at the beach.

We started from Kolkata at a speed of 60 kmph, after reading the thread of what speed should be at touring i was preety much aware of speed, breaks and engine conditions. We took NH6 (Bombay Road), the road was pretty good in condition, but had some really bad turns. The two lane highway was fun to ride at night . Spending the whole day at office and having a little rest i was already feeling sleepy so, we thought of taking a break at Kolaghat which was around 90 kms.

We took a break of 1 hour, had 7 cups of tea and started againg, distance covered was 90 km and time was 3 am sharp. We dicided not to take anymore long breaks until we reach Mandarmani. The distance was around 110 km.

After leaving kolkaghat then started a single way road, with some potholes in between.

We reached Mandarmani at 5:30 am. we already covered 200+ kms, the road to mandarmani from chawlkhala was really bad, its was narrow one with sands all over. But after reaching mandarmani every pain that already we were having in our butts were just gone.

All pictures are taken by Nokia n73 and not edited . This was my first time to mandarmani, i have heard from peoples that this beach was one of the most lonesome and virgin beaches of India, and after reaching there i found it the loneliest place on earth. Being a beach lover (this is also a reason i avoided peling) i found it very beautiful. I was just then missing my girlfriend . We stayed there more than 4 hours and tried to explore the beach as much as we could. But being cloudy what we came for gone in vain, we didnt even saw the sun properly the whole day.

The 10 km long beach was a fun place to ride. We did some photo shoot and took some videos here. Never been to such beach where you can ride your bike.

At 12 we started again, this time we had to go to digha, mandarmani is a
nice place to stay at night, but it also very expensive, non-ac hotel room costs more than 1000 per night, but as we decided to return the same day we moved on to digha. The distance was 30 km approx. The road again was not that good, and this time it was very windy. It became really tough for us to drive more than 75 kmph. Finally we reached digha at 1:30 pm and went for the beach.

This time our mind changed, we decided not to return that day, and will stay at digha. So called up my parents and told them. The next task was to find a good hotel. We found that after searching for 1 hour. We landed there. Distance covered so far was 258 km.

In afternoon we took some rest, had some meal. Then in the afternoon went to Digha beach. There were two beaches in digha, one is old digha and another one is new digha, now after been to mandarmani i knew i wouldn't like those beaches very much. And after reaching there what i saw amazed me. The beach was bolder ed because of soil erosion. There were no place to walk into water. And also not to mention the crowd. there were more people than a mela in that single beach. And too the beach was not long on.

These are the pictures of old digha beach

We sat at beach till 10 pm that night as the wind really good. It was more than good for me. After some frustrating office hours, after reading peoples trip logs i also needed some break, and i got this, a small one but a good one. We came back hotel at night and stayed there till morning.

5 am in morning we went for bathe. And this was time we come back home. We finished everything like a little shopping, had some foods.

The started from hotel at 1:30 pm. And decided to reach home (240 km) before 7 pm.

As the road was uneven we decided to take one and only break at kolaghat which was about 120 km far.

Excuse me for the sandals, this is just a stunt picture. Eventually we crossed Kolaghat Power Plant.

We reached kolkaghat a 4 pm. I was already hungry so ordered some roti, chana masala and a glass of lassi. Again rested for 1 hour. The above picture is of the hotel where we(guys of our group- RoadRollers ) usually take a break.

It was almost the end of our journey, distance left to be covered was only
120 km. I somehow dint want to go home, as have to go office and have to start the boring IT job again, but somehow it has to end. So we started at 5 pm, took some little tea breaks for 5 minutes. Finally reached Home at 7:30 pm, distance total covered was 487.1 km.

Next Trip is under planning, don't know when i ll have another leave . Till then i will read others trip log.

@psycho28: Good start, there's always a first time which is almost always the most memorable.

Looking forward to more trip logs from you!

PS: I would advise you wear full shoes next time while riding as you never know when an unexpected event can take place! Hope you understand my concern.

Nice logging with a map, directions, North South, distances. This is a good one. Appreciate doing things in a systematic manner. Seeing these rides makes me nostalgic... my home state.

Nice to see the Mandarbani Beaches. They look really tempting. I would love to go in there and swim if there are no dangers of jellyfish! The crab looks nice. Did you eat it?
The Wheel was a great invention; Two Wheels with a Motor in between was even better!

And btw, I do maintain that most bikers here and that includes you, are castaways in our own world, eating what we find on our way and sleeping where we get space. And a crab only makes it tastier!
