hmm, that is good. But Aryan, dont you think it would be kind of spoiling the fun, if we collect all the information beforehand.
Sorry mates if I am sounding a bit weird but last year when I did Leh, I just had a wonderful Road map to follow. and it still was successful with absolutely no problems. We Dint even know the next pitstop from Ludhiana, nor did we know how to Reach Manali. we reached Bilaspur, taking the city.village roads, the slip roads, by lanes and what not. and believe me, it was sheer fun. So this time too,I would rather stick to my faithful Road map and my traveling instincts, but if any of them fails, I am sure I can Count on All of you Mates to Help us...wont you???

Its not about the BHP or the CC, its about one common religion called Biking!!!

Narkanda - Wangtu: Pretty ok, good roads not many issues as such.

Wangtu - Karchham: Worst of the lot! The Nathpa - Jhakri project has destroyed this stretch. Mud, Cement are the constant companions. Last time Took me 2 hrs to do this 40 odd kms!

Karchham - Sangla: Typical mountain road. Narrow, sharp (dont look over the edge ). On an all, the road is mostly tarmac, decent all the way upto chitkul

Karchham - Peo: A mixture of good and bad tarmac.

Peo - Sumdo: Good roads (A few bad stretches but managable. Watchout for landslides and shooting stones!)

Sumdo - Tabo - Kaza: Rideable till tabo and then horrible till kaza. All gravel

Edit: Aryan for any other info, you can call me, i have pm'd u my number.
Thanks for that Kurt! I appreciate it. And I have saved your cellphone number, will give you a call in the near-future for sure.

@DCS: It will be an adventure as it is. Anyhow, whatever information is provided here is more than what I had ever hoped for. Let's now do this!

@all: Thank you guys for the wishes. I'll try to be back safe and sound!

I think what DCS Bhai is trying to say is very true.... as when you have planned a trip with quite minute details your mind gets stuck in their so you know its like going by train at stopping at several stations which you would know.... if you carry all the essentials and have just planned to go from point A to point B its more beautiful as between A and B you can get to see and go through many odd places.... so it would be great....

Aryan Da and DC Bhai all the best ride safe and make this trip as beautiful as you all can

In general, going from Delhi to Narkanda in one day is going to be very exhausting. As the latter part - with increased tireness - is mountain driving, I would be careful. Once past Peo, take it even more easy: the real fun of Kinnaur and Spiti is the scenery, so do it easy, not fast.
I would also advise more care in choosing overnight stays. From Narkanda (2400m) to Chitkul (3600) is too much of a difference, risking altitude sickness. I would advise to return from Chitkul up to Sangla (2900 m), (or to Kalpa (2960) if you have the time, enjoying the view on Kinnaur Kailash). Then going from about 3000 to Kaza (3600 m) is a much better spread.
For optimal conditions to avoid AMS, you can visit Chitkul, but better not sleep there. Keep your sleeping places within 500-600 m altitude difference (particularly going up) between nights.

I don't know when you're going, but keep in mind that Kunzum La can be closed up to early June, so returning over Manali before that is problematic.

I'll be going the same way around May 25, getting to Kaza by the 28th or so. After that, you can always find me in Kaza, so if you pass in June or later, stop by for a good biker's hug.

          Have fun.

Thanks for the excellent advice on road conditions. Will be very welcome.
I've made some maps of the Kinnaur and Spiti roads for uploading on my GPS, and will make comments on actual road conditions and bottlenecks when I'll pass there last week of May. After that, the commented maps will be available for anyone interested.

@Alfonso: We are not even thinking of doing Manali. We do not plan to conquer anything, least of all Leh/ Ladakh. Leh has become too cliched a destination. We just want to ride as far as we possibly can.

The plan is to atleast visit Chitkul/ Sangla, and see how much time, etc. we have. Accordingly, we'll move ahead.

                  ^^ Great!!!
Eagerly waiting to hear it all straight from the horses mouth...
I'd rather be riding my motorcycle thinking about God than sitting in church thinking about my motorcycle.
Ride often, ride well, have fun.
