As we were searching for a place to escape from the tremendous summer heat, a place came to our notice just 120 km away from Kolkata – Mousuni Island, a virgin beach campsite not known to much people.
After doing some online research we came to know that the campsite is managed by a group called Izifiso Backpackers Camp who happens to be the same group that hosted us in Mukutmonipur Camp last March. They offered us an overnight package which includes lunch, evening snacks, dinner and breakfast for next day. Initially we thought only 4-5 guys will join the trip but after hearing the package and seeing the images of location a total of 18 guys joined for the trip.
So on 23rd June 14 motorcycles and one car went out for an small but epic trip. We took the Diamond harbour road and detoured towards Namkhana Ferry ghat and crossed the first river on ferries which easily carries buses and trucks too.
After crossing to the other side, we headed towards Mousuni island (Bagdanga Ghat), parked our car right beside the river since the car won't be able to cross the second river crossing as they only have small boats. The bikes were loaded on the boats and after the crossing, bikes went right to the campsite and then parked at the beach. People from the car took a toto to reach the campsite.
At the camp, there are hammocks and tents, a small place for a bonfire, few mud huts being made which should be ready in a couple of months. We were welcomed with coconut water and we asked them to serve our lunch as were too hungry. After the lunch some occupied the hammocks, some went for leisurely stroll along the beach and some of us took the football and went right into the water. It was cloudy so we missed the sunset but that didn’t stop us from getting some amazing clicks.
As darkness surrounded our campsite, crisp pakodas were served along with hot tea to make our evening adda on the beach more enjoyable. Moonlit beach, Cool breeze, soft music and friends who are no less than family, what more do you want for a perfect weekend getaway. The night came to an end with a bonfire and roasted chicken tandoori after our dinner.
Next morning it started raining extremely and all faces became dull and concerned. We were worried about the boat crossing in this heavy rainfall, so as soon as it stopped we all packed our stuff and instantly left the campsite. Luckily we managed to cross the river without any difficulties but the clouds did not spare us and drizzled us with a heavy shower of rain on our way back. We reached our home before evening all wet and tired but with tons of memories to cherish until the next one.
