Being a budget travel who was mostly self funding the trip, had limited myself to finding cheaper stay and food options while still aiming to eat right.
Aim was to overall limit the expenses to Rs. 1500 per day. The basic split up being

    • Rs. 500 per day for Food
    • Rs. 500 per day for Fuel
    • Rs. 500 per day for Stay

Wouldn’t be everyday that one will land up riding a lot and spending so much on fuel, and the part that gets saved up there would go into the spares and regular maintenance of the motorcycle.

    Understanding the Motorcycle

Thanks to Arun Chanda & Executive Bajaj Ghatkopar, Mumbai for the training sessions and guidance to be able to understand the Bajaj Pulsar RS200.
Special thanks to Shashi, Ravi, Monu & Pravin sir for tolerating all my queries and even sharing their contact number to resolve any issues that might arise while traveling.

    Mental Preparation
This is something that most people miss out on. One really doesn’t know how it really feels to go on a solo trip all by themselves. There are always thoughts about if one is going to miss out on something important and not be able to get it on the road somewhere. Along with the positive thoughts of looking forward to a solo road trip are the doubtful thoughts like

    • Is this really happening?
    • Am I even prepared to be on the road for this long?
    • Am I doing the right thing?
    • Screw this, let’s just turn back, it’s not too late.

And multiple more such things that will haunt one. But sooner or later comes the realization that everything around us has a form of beauty within itself and one just needs to sit down to notice it and not let anything worry oneself.

    Day 1 Mumbai to Surat

The early morning good byes, crying and photos.

At the start of the journey

Leading to more photos with friends waiting on the highway

And the journey begins with loads of self doubt, am I prepared ? Can this really come true ?
With moving rain clouds manage to stop near Kamats for a leak. Aint that one of the best moments of being on the road. Attending natures call in the true sense.
Was just standing there for a bit absorbing the nature (of course after zipping the fly) and this man walks up to me asking about my plan and with a big heart wishes loads of luck and also offered to help in any way he could. Had always heard about helpful people on the road. Hope to meet all kinds of people. Meeting another friend, Sandeep Shukla, at the Boisar junction. Forgot the name of the phata. Sat with him for a while over some lovely parathas. He had a few goodies to give, Motul Oil & Coolant. Cant thank him enough for being so helpful and kind towards he fellow traveler that hes never met before.

Feeling a bit drowsy as I move on, halted near some water body to sit and relax for a while. Clicked a few pics and waited for a bit. Which is when a herd of grazing buffaloes started walking my way. No clue what to do in this situation. Just hoping not to make any eye contact and instigate them. Luckily all went well and started back on the road to be drenched in rain for another 100 KMs along with crazy cross winds. Not helping to maintain any average speeds at all
The jacket rain liner didnt help much. The supposed waterproof pant also didnt help. The supposed waterproof shoes and gloves also got all wet. Luckily the saddle bags were a bit dry ish.

Had some lovely food prepared by friends mum.

Post which we had this icecream paan. Mind you not paan ice cream. But ice cream stuffed in paan.

Couldnt spend much time to catch up with my friend as it was a working day for him. But its always an interesting time to be around and see how things work in that industry.

    ----consecutive posts auto-merged-----

    Day 2 Surat

So all the gear isnt dry yet. Cant take the risk of wearing wet gear and heading out to the next destination.
So here I am in Surat, figuring out what to do. Friend hands me over his car keys and says go roam around and see Gopi Talav, Dutch cemetery and the beach.
Landed up going to Gopi Talav first, where the attendants tried to convince me that the action cam was a professional cam and would not be allowed. Whilst I tried to convince them otherwise and succeeded. Walked around the commercialized place and found a spot which had the old side of the Talav which was interesting.

Met this old watchman who started chatting up. Just when I thought that there are people just wanted to know more about people, he said Saab kuch chai paani hoga kya. In short he was asking for some money.
Walked on and went to find the dutch cemetery. Which is a brilliant location to just watch the place and sit. Ponder into nothingness. Most people around dont know about it themselves. A few caretakers are around who mind their own business. Sat there for a while, when an old man brought along his grandson for a while into the place and then went along their way.

Post which landed up going to Dumas beach, which was a bit far off but the roads were great. Had the famous bhajiyas for lunch which were kind of overpriced. But its a totally different combo with the chutney that they have and tomato bhajiyas.

Tried to find one way to head to Dumas beach but just seemed lost, landed up headed back by following another car. En route saw another entry to the beach and parked out there.
The beach was too windy to be able to stand there without being blown away. Im sure someone like my sister would need an anchor. The beach had like power lines running across which kind of baffled me.

The tiredness started kicking in and headed back to friends place to get some rest.
Luckily all the gear was dry so managed to sleep in early to begin the ride next day to Abu.
