This all started after 12th std when I got my first bike The Apache RTR 160 and since that I have never looked back. I somehow take time from my busy life. But life takes many turns and currently I am working in IT profession and most of you will be aware of many situations with leaves and so on. Now, for me there was an era of four months without a bike ride even after owning a Benelli. Most of the people have craving about food I had a different craving. When destiny decides everything comes together.
So here we go!
Never thought I would do unplanned 1000 kms saddle sore ride from Mysuru to Pune.
Why unplanned? Without destination on our mind we kept riding. No plan was the plan.
This is not a TL of saddle-sore ride this is my travel experience of exploring Mysuru in a limited window of time during which we attempted our very first ever saddle-sore ride.
Now, riders who even try at doing a saddle-sore rides are of a different breed. This breed is aware of that thin line between risk and executing that risk intelligently and at right time. I salute to all riders who have achieved this.
I don’t know if this adheres to rules of saddle sore but for us it was a big deal, especially for me I am a novice when compared to my fellow rider mates.
This is us at some point of time during our 4 days journey of 2000kms.
This ride was full of sunshine, rain, fog, cold, good roads, good people, below average food and LAUGHTER!
First things first, I got the bike serviced and took it out for a spin around the city just to re-check if any loose ends needs to be tightened, the bike sounded perfect and was eager to gallop.
Initially I was keen on visiting Kolli hills in AP but due to certain time constraints couldn’t go. Also deciding a time frame due to balancing work load and other commitments for a ride is a task. Initially We decided to reach Mysuru and return via coastal route experiencing GOA [obviously!] but after multiple failed attempts of fixing itinerary finally decided no plan is the plan! Just suit up and ride with like minded people.
Me on my beloved Benelli.
Meet the highly experienced stars of this ride from left Manoj (Benelli TNT 250), Sanjay (Benelli TNT 300), Dipen (beautifully customized Bajaj Dominar.)
It had been raining in Pune and surrounding areas for the past couple of days and the weather was trying to subdue my eagerness and excitement of riding.
It doesn’t matter how many short/long rides you do there is always that excitement before the ride, which screws-up your good night sleep.
When I woke up, I thought our journey will start on a harsh note But, the weather was perfect and sun was bright over my head as if telling me, signifying that the time for me to ride had come [YAY!].
We decided to meet at our usual place where we met for casual Sunday morning breakfast rides at 5.30. we fixed up the bags and all using the cords (not an easy task) and we set off at 6.30 am due to usual expected delays for a full day of riding.
The prospect of riding for over 15 Hrs through national highways lit a spark and ignited my passion for motorcycle touring! We decided that we will stop and call it a day if one of us feels a need to do so even if it is after riding 200 kms.
We encountered unexpected traffic between Pune – Kolhapur due to minor accident.
This is after crossing 200 kms somewhere near Kolhapur.
When it comes to food I am like an eastern Bakasura. But while on a ride like these.
STAY LITE...EAT VEG....PREFERABLY THALIs.
The roads after Kolhapur are good especially when you enter in Karnataka. The roads are very good especially for people like us from Maharashtra. But at the same time the road is also boring.
After continuously riding for another 1.5-2 hour we decided to take a break near Hubli. For the usual biker rituals like cleaning visors, adjusting luggage, complain about stupid encounters with bus/truck/car drivers and so on.
We found heavily/beautifully modified Bajaj Dominar. I was staring at the bike trying to find out what/how/where/why each and every single part was modified.
At the same time we hear these sounds-
“Achhese photo khichayi chal rah hai bike ki”
And there was this guy the owner of the bike.
First thing first I didn’t recognise this guy for what so ever reasons. In reality he looks a bit different and I was like ‘isko dekha hai kidhar to’
I used to follow this guy through various social media/news.
Meet Mr. Sarath Shenoy. Most humble, down to earth guy.
You meet the nicest people on motorcycles.
Look at awesome alterations he has done for Raid de Himalaya 2018.
For people living in third world Raid de Himalaya is the second toughest rally after Dakar and this guy achieved 3rd position. What a pleasure to meet this guy on road!
A small conversation and we depart. Apne Apne raaste .. and during all this, we forgot that there was a hotel bill to be paid.
Covering many more kilometres and after multiple fuel breaks we were close to Chitradurga.
Due to one of us working in night shift and no sleep due to ride excitement all of us decided to call it a day at 8:00 PM in Chitradurga instead of covering another 100 kms and reaching Tumkur. After last minute searching for hotel and finding a good meal it was time to sleep.
To Be Continued..
