#TheRidePath | Day_01

What is #TheRidePath ? & Why?

From the very beginning of my professional life as an HR and later on, as a motorcyclist cum journalist, it has been a habit of mine, to learn from xBhp community on how to ride safe and be connected to the like minded people around the country. A simple google search would tell us that an average motorcycle rider is 30 times more vulnerable than a car rider..! It pains me to think many wonderful young riders lose their life in accidents, which otherwise could have been avoided by taking precautions as small as wearing a Helmet.

Although the Government is trying to play its part by making Helmets compulsory in many states, it also requires efforts from many other communities/agencies/stakeholders to bring about a change of mindset. Hence, to contribute towards this noble cause, as a motorcycle enthusiast, I feel it is time to stress the importance of #SafeBiking to the next Generation riders of the country.

It is for this purpose I undertake this very important mission - #TheRidePath guided by our own Sundeep Gajjar aka Sunny aka Motographer. With a deep intent to transfer my safe riding knowledge, I utilize this gem of an opportunity to preach younger novice riders and help them groom into safe riders. In the coming 30 days, I would be travelling to 30+ colleges across the state that I belong to - Tamilnadu. To meet, engage and preach to almost 5000 students about safe riding habits and leading them towards a better tomorrow.

#TheRidePath | Day_01

Some call it “giving back to the society”. But I call it “My responsibility”

When I decided to conduct the safe riding awareness program, I instinctively knew that I would start it from the place that gave me everything - 'My College'. 10 years back I remember entering the tall, steel gates of my college in my first bike Bajaj Discover 125. The wheels of time must have rotated a few times, but the feeling still remains the same. Today, while riding the familiar roads inside my college, a flood of memories overwhelmed me. Be it the friendly cashier at the canteen or the principal of my college, none of them looked like they have aged a bit. They look exactly how I remember them 10 years back. The only person who seem to have aged is of course, me.

Once I jumped through the first few nervous moments of the presentation, with a good flow I started engaging my young audience with some interesting slides. Shared my safe riding tips to them. With the satisfaction of seeing a few happy faces in my wonderful audience, I end Day_01 of #TheRidePath.

#TheRidePath | Day_02

Its Day_02 of #theRidePath and Today I will be riding to Chennai from Krishnagiri. I expect this ride to be smooth as the Krishnagiri-Chennai highway is a sleek 6 lane highway.

In the morning, I had met few fellow riders (Sidharth, JayaGanesh) from Hosur at Shoolagiri. Also present at Shoolagiri, was Dr. Nandakumar Sir, the legendary 80 year old young rider, inspiring us with his healthy body and fitness.

With the graceful blessings from Dr. Nandakumar and heartfelt wishes from my fellow riders, I now set forth towards Chennai.

#TheRidePath | Day_03

It's Day 03, and I had two reasons to call yesterday a special day

1. 15 years back xBhp was born. From then on, till today, xBhp has continued to be a wonderful platform for all bikers of the country.

2. As someone who grew up in TN, the city Chennai is more than a city to me. It is an emotion. It is from this xBhp's Chennai chapter, the seeds of my safe riding habit were sown. And it is for this reason I formally start my ride from this great city.

Coming to yesterday's ride, like many other rides that I earlier had gone with the Chennai chapter riders, yesterday I rode with them to Chennai - Tindivanam - Marapalam - Marakanam - Odiyur Lake - Chennai. We celebrated xBhp's 15th Anniversary with cake cutting and shared our thoughts the experiences during our discussion.

Thank you Sriram (@SriramEfunds) for coordinating and arranging the cake cutting celebration. Thank you all the riders. It was a wonderful ride yesterday.

It's a great initiative taken by you, to educate the importance of safe riding to college students, as its the need of the hour due to the rise in fatalities of road accidents because of pure negligence and lack of awareness. All the very best in completing your #TheRidePath mission

#TheRidePath - Day_04, 05 & 06

Day_04 & Day_05: Just as we take regular efforts to maintain our body health, our bikes too require regular maintenance to keep them in excellent running condition. Today, as we touched the 500kms mark in our Pulsar bikes, we realized it's time for the first service and we parked our bikes in one of the many Bajaj service centres of Chennai. And also we worked on others plans and schedules to start the journey.

Day_06: After finishing the first service at Chennai, we started our ride towards Sriperambadur (An industrial hub boasting the presence of many MNCs like Hyundai, Nokia, Samsung..etc). Rajiv Gandhi College of Engineering (College No 2), which is situated in Kanchipuram district. Thanks to Aharam Services for organizing the event. A wonderful safe biking awareness session was conducted to around 350+ students of the college. While I enjoyed answering their curious questions post the presentation, showcasing them the bikes and the riding gears and watching the students trying the gears on, gave me immense satisfaction.

Our many gratitude to the college principal for sharing his precious time and experiences with us. As I set forth towards another District tomorrow, do look forward for the interesting pictures from day 04 & 05.

#theRidePath | #Day07 | Tagore Engineering College | A vibrant mix of future Electrical, Mechanical and Aeronautical engineers were present at the lecture hall, learning the nuances of safe biking. After a quick photo session with my admirable audience, post the motivational lecture, we exchanged our thoughts with each other during the sumptuous lunch time.

My sincere thanks to the PTO and HOD of Aeronautical department who graciously offered us the department's Aero-hangar for a sublime photo shoot.

Two of the inventions which I have highly rated in my mind are seen in the below pictures. Both of these inventions were, are, and would be used by mankind to reach previously unreachable destinations. It was great feel capturing a motorcycle and an aircraft in a single frame.

As of today we have spread the 'safe biking' message to 4 different colleges and to around 800+ students. Some of the most common questions that were asked are "What is the top speed of your bike?", "Have you ever met with an accident?", "Do you do stunts?"..etc

With the likes of such questions being asked, we can understand that these youngsters usually relate the word 'motor-biking', with 'street racing' and 'dangerous stunts'. It is exactly to quell this perspective, and to inculcate a much preferred 'safe motorcycle lifestyle' mindset into the minds of the future riders, we at xBhp have set forth on this Safe Riding Awareness Program - #theRidePath (Leading the young riders towards a better tomorrow). And the fact that I am part of the mission of bringing safety into mainstream biking community of this country, motivates me and keeps me going. Thank you all for your support...

With the capital city, and the two adjoining suburban districts (Kanchipuram and Tiruvallur) covered in this #Ridepath thus far, we had the opportunity to meet the man responsible for the smooth and efficient operation of the city. A simple, enigmatic person, Shri. A.K.Viswanathan, Commissioner of Police, Chennai. After a short discussion, heartily congratulated us on our efforts and wished us all the best for the #theRidePath ahead.
