-A place where you could meet frostbite and sunburn at same time.
-Valleys and gorges are so deep, there’s no place for acrophobic people.
-Altitude and thin air is not ONLY tough challenge.
-It is situated in laps of Karakoram, Zanskar and Himalayas.
-On some roads, even if you spot a human being, that.. is.. luxury.
-Slipping your bike a bit is difference between life and death.
And on top of that..
-Riding even in group there is little military operation. Riding alone is like surgical strike.
Yeah.. You guessed correct.. I’m talking about Ladakh.!
Planning for Ladakh was not, obviously, instantaneous.. But truly.. I never “dreamed” about it.. Rather when I started little study on subject, I understood it’s Dream Ride for every rider.. I just wanted to go someplace quiet, serene and a bit lonely.. Where nature and I could gossip silently.. After studying, one thing I got for sure that this is gonna be adventurous ride..
When I was riding in Kerala, my plans to go deep in some Tea Estate for a few clicks proved real pain in ***.. And actually pain I meant cause my butt went sore.. Cause that so called road, “Path” or “Way” would be proper description of that, gave me a fast forward trailer of all such trails I might be riding in Ladakh.. Of course I didn’t know it that time..
In Konkan, I parked my bike a step ahead near beach.. And before I stand down, I realized that turning back is impossible since sand was eager to swallow us.. Unavoidably, I had to ride long on beach to “U” turn it.. Those who might have ridden sleek tires of Yamaha R15 knows that feeling of skidding and slipping and so on.. That was enough experience to overcome fear of sand, which I was gonna encounter in Ladakh everywhere.. This also, I didn’t know that time..
I have my breadcrumbs from previous riding experiences.. Which taught me some “Must NOT Have”, rather than any “Must Have” things.. I would carry like, not only safety pins and rubber bands along with puncture repair and first aid kit, but even thread and needle, extra straps and buckles and so on.. Of course Still Camera kit with filters, polarizer and power packs in little back pack and.. A tripod strapped to right side of R15.. Clothing, especially wind cheater, rain liners ain’t on my must have list, except riding gear.. A Jeans and three T shirts do this job happily..
Bike is always prepared and is at anytime “Ride few thousands” condition, still it required extra fuel tank.. Yeah TANK.. Mine is R15 and I never ever liked or even wanted those filthy plastic jerry cans one can see in photo of any bike in Himalaya.. Since I travel alone, somebody carrying extra fuel for me was of course, out of equation.. So I bought a tiny tank of TVS XL50, designed bracket for it, got it modified and fitted to bike.. Everyone on my every Ladakh trip found it irresistible to have a look at it.. Here it is..
Being solo and first time going to Kashmir, my plan ran into 20 days to and fro.. This included head start from my hometown, Nasik to Mumbai.. Nasik as you know is Wine capital of India, religious hub in Maharashtra.. Holy city of Kumbhmela, home for Mahindra vehicles.. Smart city like smart me..
From Mumbai, I planned travelling in Rajdhani Express to Delhi and carried my bike with me.. Actually, I didn’t have any issue riding to Delhi.. But wasting our power in long humdrum riding.. I didn’t wanna do that.. I have ridden over 1k km straight.. From Jaipur to Nasik.. It took me 14 and ½ hours, including pit stops.. Have also ridden more than 600 km in a day N number of times on R15.. So long rides is no issue.. But wanted to conserve our energies for further journey of about 4,500 kms..
And boy I was right on this.. Cause in 2019 I decided to go home to home on bike, Mumbai Agra Grand Trunk Road seemed to have lost “R” from Grand..
Riding in Kasara Ghat section is always a pleasure.. It lies in mountains of famous western ghats.. This is just great.. Sharp incline and decline of more than 1000 feet in such short distance.. It’s always awesome riding here.. Wide butter smooth road.. Superb curves.. And surprisingly.. No that damn stupid speed breakers.. Ripping off every chance to get knee down.. A motorcycle, full tank of petrol and twisty roads.. This is bliss..
Money can’t buy happiness.. But it can buy bikes and riding them is happiness..!!
I ain’t sure if you know this.. Mumbai was originally city of seven islands.. English Governor William Hornby linked these islands.. And it took more than 50 years to make today’s dream metro city.. A city with diverse people, cultures, languages and whatnot.. But still.. ये है आमची मुंबई..
On-the-way Thane Bhiwandi by-pass road, we get to The First Toll Plaza In Maharashtra.. Now it’s shut down.. Anyways.. I’m toll free rider..
This metro city is all about paradoxes.. While it has India’s movie capital, Bollywood.! It also houses India’s biggest slum.. Dharavi.. And don’t be surprised.. Business from this slum is whooping 700 Million US$.. Obviously this city is crowded with multi milliners so as with people who barely survive.. We see supercars and jam-packed local trains, side-by-side.. It’s home of India’s first ever train and now ambitious bullet train..
There is so much about this city..
UNESCO’s two world heritage sites, elephant caves and Chatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus.. Reserve Bank, SEBI and atomic research centre.. N number of multinationals, biggest export houses.. Western naval command.. Busiest international air terminal.. MAN.. This city is gigantic..
Well guys.. I just clicked something.. I’m passing via most populous city in India.. And going to a place with meager population.. That’s fascinating.!
This city is not a concrete jungle.. This is a human zoo..
Finally I reached Mumbai Central, got my bike packed, loaded into Rajdhani.. And left at sharp 5 pm for Delhi.. There’s lot more coming.. Stay in touch..

That's NICE..
Those who were there, these pics will be a little reminder of heaven we saw with our own eyes..
Such clouds are only seen at Tso Moriri..
