I wish you posted the above picture with your red CBR in the middle. Though I think you might have one, but whatever you have put it in my plate ASAP, cannot wait further. I am always look for travelogue with CBR but these days I really find a few.

Well, Its time to go for a bike trip and add some life to my hectic and boring days. Also I badly wanted to have some quality personal time. Me Time + Bike Trip + Ooty = wow .

Took leave on 28 and 31 December and that gave me 4 days for the trip. 31st Dec night, I wanted to come back and spend time with my loved ones on New year 2019.

This is my first time visit to Ooty. Friends suggested me to stay at Kotagiri which has better weather and atmosphere. Ooty has become more commercialized and busy like Cityscape rather Landscape. Also it is school holidays and New year eve, there would be heavy traffic. So quickly booked a decent 3 star hotel at Kotagiri. Will share the details later..

Preparation:
Had the bike serviced 10 days back. Cleaned and refreshed the riding gears which I use for long trip only. Bought compact knee pads from Amazon.in, very good actually. Packed all the required stuff pretty quickly the night before itself. Rynox Tank Bag and Vieterra Claw Mini saddle bag were enough to load all the stuffs for 4 days trip including gadgets like DSLR and GoPro.

Day1: 28-Dec-2018: Chennai to Mettupalayam
Route taken: Vandalur - Ulundurpet - Selam - Erode - Avinasi - Mettupalayam. Wanted to avoid Thirupur and Coimbatore to save time.

Before night went to bed by 10:30pm and had good sleep. Woke up by 4:30am and got ready by 6:00am. Wore the riding gears, small prayers, took a deep breath and started the trip around 6AM with full excitement! Yay, the bike trip is really happening...

Luckily there was less Fog and traffic. Quickly reached the first stop at 99KM coffee stop, as usual. Had a nice filter coffee and biscuit. Done a quick check on the luggage, tyre pressure, etc. and started again.




Live it! Love it! Ride it!

Next stop was at Uludurpet for Breakfast. After that no much breaks. Headed straight to Mettupalayam and reached by 4:00pm. Checked into Hotel CatNap which is decent enough for a solo biker like me. Booked via Goibibo for some 800 bucks. Had a covered parking though. Took 1 hour rest, refreshed myself and had a roam around the town. Plan is to enjoy the Hill drive to Kotagiri freshly in the morning.

Went to "Black thunder" theme park area and had some nice snacks and tea.


Had light dinner and went to bed early by 9:00pm itself.

Continued enjoying the weather and hill ride. Took another break to enjoy the Tea estates, Mist and drizzling by sipping a hot and fresh tea! Very lovely time..

Day 2: Mettupalayam to Kotagiri.

While I approach Kotagiri, it was heavy mist and mild rain. Weather was very chill and I was shivering inside .


Reached Kotagiri around 9.30am and checked in to Celestial Resorts. Stayed in Standard room which is decent. Not suit for family, deluxe room should be fine though. I have booked this room for 2 nights. 1st day to roam around Kotagiri - Kodanadu estate and peak view, Catherine falls view, Tea estates.

Took an hour rest and started roaming around. By the time rain was over but mist was still there. I headed to Kodanad estate area. The route was superb with beautiful landscapes and tea estates.

Infront of Kodanad Estate! Remembering the Iron lady Jayalalitha Madam (Late Chief Minister of Tamilnadu). She use to take rest here! Rest in peace Madam. The estate was beautifully maintained. It is totally a different world. Could not go into the estate, No permission.

After this went back to Kotagiri, roamed around, had dinner and went bed early. TV was not working.. huh.. Was browsing mobile which brought me sleep real quick

Day 3: Kotagiri - Ooty - Dhottabetta - Avalanchi Lake - Back to Kotagiri for night stay.

Woke up around 6.30am. It was very cold around 9 degree C throughout night. Went to nearby shop to have hot Coffee.. Witnessed heavy fog with very less visibility.


Enjoyed the chillness


I postponed my start to Ooty an hour and took some more rest. Finally around 9.30am I have started after having a mild breakfast.

En route to Ooty..... Sun has shown some mercy and weather was good..

it was too good with a nice park and children play area. Family will love it.


Reached Dotta Betta Peak. The view was nice. But the road was very bad for nearly 6KMs. Cars n bikes were crawling slowly. Spent some 2 hours here.

Went to Avalanche lake which is around 30KMs from main Ooty.. Road was very bad and it took 1.5 hours reach. Sad that the Nature Safari was closed just 10 mins before I reach the spot. That is it is closed by 3.30pm where I reached 3.45pm. Bit disappointed, but roamed around the pine forest and snacks bar and spent some 1 hour to relax myself.

Access to lake is restricted. This is the max you can go. Water level was very less.


Wow.. what a relief for my back after 1.5 hours of off roading to reach Avalanche . Actually this is the heaviest offroad I did in my CBR.
This Grass bed and tank bag pillow felt more comfortable.. ha ha.. For few seconds i actually fell asleep..


Nature Safari booking office! Those stick fences brought me my childhood memories where I use to prepare such fences around my home garden . Gone are those golden days

Ooops.. my stomach reminded me that I forgot to have lunch . Had a nice and fresh Egg Noodles and Ginger tea at hotel near the pine forest. Very tasty and vegetables felt very fresh.


Time to remove all the gears and gadgets and be free for a moment!


On the way back to Ooty main city from Avalanche


Again offroading.. and reached Ooty around 6.30pm. Felt very tired and no mood to roam around Ooty lake or shopping which I originally planned. Had some snacks and tea near Bus stand area.. and had a detailed story telling session over phone to my loved ones. Started to Kotagiri around 7.30pm and reached by 8.30pm. Had dinner and went room. Slept early again as I was very tired.
