M-Top was never open for tourists ... Only for insane fellows ... Actually getting a permit for M-Top is quite a fight and they donot issue it to a single individual, only in groups. I faced the same issue thus coudnt do it ...

Opening and closing depends on the weather there...ITBP folks might forbid you from going beyond Phobran, owing to bad weather at the top, even if you have the permit

Thanks for the valuable piece of info!

Asking the impossible I guess, but is there anyway to know the weather would be bad at MTop prolly a day in advance....?

That part was scary, good to see that you came out unscathed!

Btw, what makes Rohtang so difficult?

Always an uncertanity. Weather can change within minutes, a day would be too far fletched

Rohtang's not difficult, its filthy. Too many tourists, too much mud interspersed with CO fumes and horse shit. The reason why I displease it, and find it a pain ...

                          Apologies for hijacking your thread....

What time do tourists usually start showing up at Rohtang? Asking if one wanted to clear it before all hell broke loose over there, what would be the best time to start from Manali?
