I've got one suggestion for you - search thru the forums... everything is covered in great detail.

here's some encouragement to get you started

Have anybody tried like this? - lots!
How much Km of riding required to ladakh from delhi?? 2100 km at least (delhi to delhi)
Is it possible to take my bike in train without any problem?? no probs
Will I require some NOC or any documents to drive?? not required (your license, insurance, RC and PUC will suffice).

      All the best!

There are lots of people who have done this.
From Delhi it could be around 1500 kms approx.
You can very much get the bike from the train. I have not done that, so you check out some older threads on this. Or other people can advice on it.
No special NOC required. Just carry your regular Bike Documents. Yes, but in case if you planning to visit Pangang Tso lake, then you have to get the permits from LEH city. This may require some personal identity proof. So for additional safety carry a copy of passport also.

Before going, take enough time to plan the entire trip into details & day-to-day breaks. This will enable you to have a perfect journey. You may refer to our plans, but it was from (Mumbai-Leh-Mumbai) or can also refer many threads in Tourer section of other users who have done this.

              Hi Mervin,

There are a LOT of people who have done this already without any problem.
You don't need a tent or a guide.
Make sure the bike is in good condition and you atleast know to repair a puncture.

PLEASE read through the different logs on the "tourer" section of this site and a MUST read is the sticky topic "Essentials of Driving to Himalayas".

I bet if you read 10 travel logs, you will feel that you have already been to Leh in your dreams and just need to be there physically.

NOTE: Not many people know but it is like this. You can drive a bike of ANY state in ANY state in India for 1 year without needing a NOC or paying Road tax. How does the police know that it hasn't been one year since you took the bike out of her own state? By seeing your Polution Under Control" certificate. So get a (PUC certificate and drive a bike of Maharashtra registration in Kashmir for one year).

              Cheers and Happy Journey .....

i wont be able to say exact kms from & to delhi, as while returning we didnt go to delhi.. but should be approx 3000kms max.
I dont think u will need to carry tents.. u will get places to stay in tents.. again, please make a plan where you will be taking halts & accordingly start the journey.. As in himalayas you wont be able to calculate time just based on the distance. At times doing 100kms a day will be task. I wont recommend riding in night after manali till u reach LEH. The roads are not in good conditions, some places no ROADS.. some are good as well.. but expect the unexpected. I think the time when you are going, snow will be quiet less.. not sure though.. all the best..!
btw, which bike you gonna take there.

AMS is Acute Mountain Sickness. This tends to strike you due to high altitudes..
Mostly there are the chances you may face some health problems due to heights & lack of oxygen.. Yeah, u have to little control on your smoking..! Not totally, i would say but atleast till you reach Leh from manali..

There are some restrictions as to when one can go thru the roads as the roads are open to general public for some 3-4 months in a year..so, check first whether in october the roads would be open or not.

hey dont worry.. as long as you dont have any major health problems no need to take any tensions..!!
yes we took tablets the previous nights when we left on high altitudes next morning.. best thing is let your body adopt.. dont rush too much..
after we left from manali, we waited a night at Darcha, then second night at Pang & then to LEH. I personally faced problems on the day of darcha.. had a headache, feel bit suffocation, dizziness... others too faced little problems. Try not to wait for long times even not more than 10min max on the mountains. You may find the view really beautiful & feel like heaven. But try not to get too excited & jump around clicking photographs..
I would say, just stay relaxed & this is just another tour which you do normally. Nothing serious to worry about. While going to khardongla we didnt took any medicines & all of us did great. The major problem we faced was Chillness & heavy snow fall. Due to which our fingers had become numb. So try to carry really nice warm cloths. But I doubt here about the climate in your period.
Also as Inder said, please confirm if this roads are open in that month. As I think that is the time when the passes prepares to close. So just make sure about it.
Experienced guyz.. please put your valuable advices here..
