^ Teejesh, answer to every question must already be present in this thread or there is one thread named 'Leh:2009 All plans here'.

Though The question was for Inder and Rachit but....
The Route ideally closes for the public by October, so yes, it will be open in the 1st week of September.

The Ideal way to enjoy Leh is to stay away from Passes. So Sarchu, Darcha etc are a few Camp sites where you can stay and enjoy nature without burning a hole in your pocket, accommodation for as low as 50 rs. per bed . though you wont get the luxury of a hot water bath, but who cares, most of us wont take a bath on the way.

well, as long as your bike is in perfect condition, a stock tool kit is all you need, however, if you can, carry a punture repair kit, a plier, an adjustable wrench, soem elecrtic tape etc. hopefully, you will not need anything from the tool kit in the entire trip.

Diamox...... carry some ORS too, glucose packets are equally good, make sure you are not running low on fluid intake, else, Leh is just another Place on Earth, you dont need to be trained for a space venture.

        enjoy!!

so finally dcs da expert answers..!!
just sharing my recent experience, for tablets carry Diamox..
we carried lots of electrol powder. Expense is nothing out there while on the Himalayas..
at our first halt in Darcha. it costed us Rs.50 per bed.. its just a bed with blanket.. good enough to keep u cozy.
than in Pang, we paid Rs. 100 per bed.
in LEH, we got a nice guest house for Rs. 500 for two rooms per night.
carry puncture kits of ur bike if possible & Foot pump which is for approx Rs. 200.

to give you an idea of tents we stayed..
1st is of Darcha & 2nd is of Pang

                Quick question:
How to negotiate slush paths? I have tried a couple of times, but the mud sticks to the tyres and gets stuck in the front mudguard. The last few times, I had to use a stick to scrape out the mud before the tyre started moving without resistance.

Perhaps a rally gurard ... that would be an option. But i still dont get, where do you get so much of mud, for so long a distance to ride on?

Well, I am fond of ponds and dams, so I go near the water level and get stuck in the soft mud. And those are small sections where I can push through; think of a road of slush, as found in landslide + rain areas!

No issues with road slush, landslides are crossed easily as they dont last that long. Your front wheel will not stall. And normally, with landslides there would be water crossings round the corner, so the fresh mud would get washed off at the next crossing.
