  • Weekend Ride to Sarahan

It had been snowing in Manali. For the first time in many years! Yup, was all over the papers. The next afternoon a couple of friends came and asked me to accompany them..to Manali, over the weekend!

    I still agreed ..

Though I convinced the fellows to re-direct the trip, to Kalpa (which eventually turned out to be Sarahan..ahem!). Also confronted Vishal, my friend and roommate if he would accompany us, he agreed readily.

It was a first hill ride for all the 3 .. This got me thinking .. I was a bit skeptical and scared at the same time for obvious reasons. But nonetheless, I was confident that they would fare well..

..And thus, after imparting a small briefing to them on a Saturday early morning, we set off!

    The riders were:

    1) Vishal: P-150

    2) Archit: Electra 350

    3) Prashant: P-220 DTSi

    4) Yours truly on the CBZ-X

It was around 3:45 when we started off..

              At the meeting point:

              Somewhere before Shimla:

We re-grouped in Shimla near the Victory tunnel. We decided against stopping there as none of the shops were open. At Dhalli we had breakfast: Tea and Omelet! Started off to Narkanda

              Enroute Naraknda:

              Waiting for the rest:

Reached Sainj in around half an hour. Sainj is the place where you the highway for Jalori pass (A high altitude pass and the gateway to the Kullu valley) situated at 3100 m. From Sainj you can also divert to Mandi via Karsog and Chindi (A picturesque hamlet and famous amongst nature lovers) or get to the NH-88 via Sunni-Dhaami.

              Somewhere post Sainj

We got off to a bridge 200 m below the highway

On the bank of the Sutlej

              In the middle of nowhere

Waiting for the folks near the pump at Jeori

@Kurt: I have been dying to visit Kalpa specifically, for months now! And being so close to Himachal, you guys are darn lucky! Beautifully started log there with some good pictures too. But, I am keen on knowing did you find any snow in Sarahan? Or Narkanda? Or at any place?

I am really looking forward to visiting a place this year, where I am bound to find snow, barring Manali, but ofcourse! Perhaps, Kalpa.
                      :)

Well, there was no snow Aryan. Anywhere. Not even at hatu. In December you'll surely find lots in Kalpa and more in Chitkul! I too am hoping to ride off there, perhaps in the second weekend, December.

That's strange. Anyhow, December will be THE month to start riding up there.
