    An alley there

    Me, Vishal and Archit

It was now time for some exploration. We went up to this ancient structure which was supposedly a

Looked interesting, thus we tried to find a way. There were narrow passages which led to inner chambers, some to attics within the house. But there was no door open that could grant us access to within the spooky main hall!

    Prashant

Our next stop was the Bhimakali temple, for which Sarahan is famous for. The structure is indeed a marvel. Around 2 storied, all wooden. Wooden staircase, wooden flooring, ceiling, exteriors and interiors.

After the brief darshan, we witnessed rain outdoors. Brought a grin and I thought that there is a huge possibility of snow at night! Happily we scurried back to our bikes, and off to the hotel.

The extra bedding was carefully placed opposite the double bed in that huge room, just for me to lie back and dream on! A bowl of soup and an order of half butter chicken later, I dozed off, only to be awaken an hour later with the aroma of the chicken floating in the atmosphere. Amazingly, that half butter chicken had 10 decent sized pieces! Left me wondering all through the meal that it just might have been a dog I am having here. Who knows!

We finally slept at around 9, in a wish of a white blanket across the surface!..

Thanks abhishek! I am glad you like them. Rest assured, I will continue to write (apart from motorcycling, writing's another passion) and continue to post!

After the much needed refreshing sleep, I woke up at around 7 and took a glance outside. To my astonishment, Alas, there was no snow! Not even single bud! It had snowed, but in a land far far away, which was perched atop a mountain, known as the Shrikhand Mahadev..

We got ready and had breakfast by 9.

              Hotel Shrikhand

It was initially decided that we would take the Sainj-Sunni road, and I would also take the rest of the guys till tathapani. I took the lead again, and the meeting point was fixed as Sainj. Reached Rampur in no-time, and then a wonderful double laned tarmac was my companion for the next 20 mins, where I let it rip, hard!

I vaguely remember Vishal mentioning about a fork on the road somewhere in between Sainj and Rampur which leads to Thanedar, which eventually meets the 22 in Narkanda. The same though flashed my mind when I saw this bifurcation going off the road some 6 kms before Sainj. I stopped and clicked the sign board. I asked the status of the Sainj-Sunni road from a few locals who were at a bus stop there. It was in bad condition, just as it had been last time on when I took it. Being the fellows first time, I was not willing to take any chances with a 50 kms gravel road. It had rained the previous night, so there was bound to be mud too.

After sometime Vishal turned up, and then Prashant. We decided that we will take the Thanedar road. Some more time later, Archit appeared, and then we headed towards Thanedar.

This was a narrow road, similar to the one leading to Sarahan, but offering much more beautiful vistas. Broken at places, but mostly tarred.

              Somewhere, on the way:

The incline was unexpectedly steep, and my little angel was chugging along slowly

              Steep chadaai

We crossed a few villages in between and soon came to a fork, where one road led to Kothgarh and the other to Thanedar. Kotgarh, also known as the Apple Country, is the place where Satyanand Stokes planted apple saplings and played an inspirational role in promoting apple plantations all over Himachal. This was quite evident as we ascended towards Thanedar, with the sight of apple trees.

Reached Thanedar and then had the company of barren apple trees along the road, kilometers at a stretch. Wondered how these would seem with juicy red apples hanging down from their tiny branches!

It turned out to be a beautiful man-made lake, with a thick bunch of trees on all 3 sides, making the panorama quite exquisite!

After the brief photography session, we descended back to the major artery heading towards Narkanda, unknown to the fact that Vishal had already passed by. At Narkanda, we saw Arcgit waiting for us but Vishal was not there. Had a hunch that he has trudged on further to Shimla. This was confirmed when we received a call from him saying he was in Theog. So we continued asked him to wait for us at the Victory tunnel, Shimla.

At Shimla, we regrouped and spent a lot of time devouring on Samosas and Jalebis! The weather had gone bad now, and by the time we started, it was dead foggy!

Nonetheless, we made it to Panchkula by night, went off to our respective nests and slept peacefully!

              The End

Good ride, log and pics there Kurt. The Thanedar side is pretty.
The Sainj - Sunni road is partly painful and partly good. Been on it on the way back from Spiti this October.

Try out the Temple Guest House at the Bhimakali Temple next time. The rooms are quite good and not at all expensive.

No snow in November should not be a surprise. In fact vice-versa would be unusual.

                      Thank You Old Fox, sir!

We thought of the temple guest house but then opted otherwise as the friends were tempted for a drink!

As I've mentioned, we planned for Kalpa when we set off which recieved snowfall 2 nights before the ride and was the second coldest in Himachal at -1 degree, after Keylong. But the turn of events ousted that plan. Infact we were optimistic for snow the night in Sarahan as the weather got bad, but were left dis-heartened the next morning..

Nonetheless, there is always next time for returning on the beloved NH-22
