  • ...And then we went to Dalhousie

Sitting in office, I was going through the archives and guess what I found! ...

This trip was done in April (I believe) last year
    .
    .
    .
    .

...And then we went to Dalhousie

I needed a ride. Oh, I badly needed a ride. I had to break free from the shackles!

First it was the mughal road. All planned and settled to go, the day before I decide..."Nay, lets do the chamba-banderwah stretch". This opens up in the Doda district of J&K. Mad, is what was thrown back at me. The planned return was via Banderwah - doda -batote - udhampur - jammu. On the morning of the ride, we call up Doc Rohin (A friend residing in Poonch, J&K) and ask him about the feasibility. The road was closed for more than 2 decades due increased militancy in that area but it was open for locals and we were sure we would be able to make it.

"Dont stay there, cross banderwah and stay in batote" advised Rohin.

4 pm we made a start. Me on my CBZX, Puneet on his bull and rahul + another one of his girlfriends on his P200! Rahul was going to accompany us till Pathankot, as he was going to Srinagar...

We reached patankot at 10, after a rough, dusty and painful samba - pathankot stretch. Oh how I HATE riding on plains, i cannot tell you!

Had some eggs, met up and chatted with a few locals and then came rahul with lora (yeah, thats the name).

Rahul had 10 fried boiled eggs. Yes 10. Lori had none because she was of the opinion that " Hell I am not going to have fried boiled eggs in the middle of the road!!!!"... Ahem....Well, after an hour we bid farewell to Rahul.

We carried on for Banikhet and soon enough the sight of the twisties had my spirits revived!! I purely, well and truly love Himachal...Jai dev bhoomi!.. Happiness was in the air again

Reached Banikhet in around two hours, searched for a hotel and finally managed to convince a guy (Hotel Sahara Inn's caretaker) for a Rs 250 room. Clean, decent, big enough for 2.

Next day, upon confirming from the locals, the news of the chamba - banderwah stretch being washed away due to flash floods for 1.5 km was bestowed upon us....

***Heartbreak ***...Dissapointed! A few sobs, a few curses.

...And then we went to Dalhouise

Here are a few teasers, will post more shortly (again not many due to the packed schedule)

***Runs and dives into a corner***

            Day 2

Right, so Dalhousie was just 6 kms upfront. Got there in no time and right on the main bus stand, there was this kid who offered us a room at 500/night. I was initially reluctant, because my conscience led me to believe that if we put up in khajjiar, it would be a wiser option. But then again, we also wanted to off-load the luggage and then make a head start. So yes, we did get the room, but for a meagre 200. Surprised! Well a little (or a lot of) bargaining can do wonders! Thanks to Puneet.

And mind you, the room was excellent..with an awesome three-mountain view bang in front!

Finally, after shedding some extra kilos off Puneet's bull, we started off towards khajjiar. 14 kms later, we were stopped at a check post near kala-top. Now the moron who was managing that post would'nt let us take our bikes atop kala-top. Cars, those metal cuboids on four wheels, were permitted to fly by us to the pinnacle but the bikes were supposed to be parked at the base and the bikers had to take the trek up to the top...

We persuaded, he was adamant ...

We pleaded, he was firm ...

We tried to bribe, we wudnt budge ...

Then we politely SWORE at him ... and moved on! Khajjiar was just round some corners.

Good place ya.. Lush green meadow ... Picturesque.... Neat. We sat there for about an a hour and a half, watched families take a ride in the bubble, some folks in the background para-gliding.Hawkers porting beer from the theka to your lap on call! A must-do on your list if you are out in a relaxed vacation with your parents/wife and kids.

So after the 90 mins monitor of the bowl, we turned back. In less than an hour we were again in Dalhousie. This time we took the diversion to a place called 'panchpula' which was about 3 kms from our source.

Ajit Singh, the uncle of Bhagat Singh, ki samadhi is in panchpula. Had some tea, cherished the vistas around, some pakoras and a few cigarettes later, we were on our way back to our hotel. It was evening by now, and beer was the call of the hour. I ordered only one beer, and then the beer ordered the beer ... Was a good time ... Plus, the food was excellent!

            ....Slept....

            Some more pics:

                Great!

I am amazed by the green beauty, never seen such before. I will definitely visit dalhousie once in this year. Are there any other places around there to visit?

As mentioned in the Log, there is Khajjiar and kalatop. Apart from that there is chamba which is nearby.
