On 11th May 2010, at 6 am, me and Rahul started our journey towards Nainital. Things started on smoothly with a visit to a temple. We took the India Gate route and reached the Hapur Highway in no time because of less traffic early morning. We maintained a safe distance between our bikes and rode in a sane manner.

The road from Ghazipur to Hapur was good. But after Hapur, the roads were bad due to the construction of the flyovers the lanes on the side where in a very bad condition, i mean there was no road plus the traffic made it worse. Crossing that area consumed a lot of time and even energy.

Then came the superb four laned tempting Hapur By-pass but the temptation had to be controlled and we did control it. On the by-pass, we parked our bikes on the extreme left of the road with our indicators switched on. Then took out are favorite weapon CAMERA. Here are some pictures.

        THE X FACTOR

The beautiful Sun rays sneaking through the clouds..lovely..

Crossed Garhmukteshwar, then we made our first halt at Gianni Restaurant in Gajraula. Nice paranthas and dahi filled our empty stomachs.

The water of the Hand Pump was colder than the Mineral water bottle but NOT drinkable.

Food was excellent and not at all over priced as our pockets demanded. Then left the Dhaba within 30 minutes and our next was planned to be Rampur. The road from Gajraula to Rampur was good except some unsatisfactory patches. The speed was maintained on 70 kmph. On these roads you need be very alert due to the variety in traffic like cars, scooters, cycles, bikes, trucks, cattle, dogs, goats and specially people crossing the road.

Rampur is a city located in the Indian State of Uttar PradeshCITY OF NAWABS was our next halt and its just for 10 minutes because we had to reach our ultimate destination on time and took some refreshment. Rahul helped in getting the refreshment and the mean time, I did take some pictures of the Main market before the Rampur Bus Stand.

Known to be very crowded place but I guess we were lucky that day. We drank liters of water which is very effective in summers instead of drinking an aerated drink which causes dehydration.

We left the place. There is a turn to the left between the market and the bus stand towards Nainital (NH-87). If you go straight you will reach Bareilly i.e. around 55 kms from Rampur. Unfortunately, we missed the left turn due to inadequate sign boards in the area. Rode about a good 10 kms towards Bareilly then realized where going in the wrong direction. Came back on the right road.

          NATIONAL HIGHWAY 87

We crossed Bilaspur which was a very small settlement area but heavy traffic in that area delayed ETA at Nainital.

After we crossed Bilaspur, we saw this sign board we both felt happy and even literally felt that Uttarakhand is welcoming us to their beautiful state.

Passed by Rudrapur, Bajaj has a manufacturing plant in Pantnagar, Rudrapur District in the Industrial Area. Tata also has a manufacturing plant in this place where Nano is manufactured.

Suddenly, Rahul aka Romeoinvisible's bike's fuel indicator malfunctioned due to lose connection and indicated fuel empty . We to make an unplanned stop at Bajaj Service Station at Haldwani, it took just a few minutes to repair the snag that occured (QUICK SERVICE ) and Rahul was super happy with the service.

After the technical snag was solved, we headed towards Nainital. It was our first hill ride and I was super excited for it. Rahul did brief about the riding in the hills. So, he lead the ride and instructions were followed completely because lapse of concentration and complacency can be dangerous. Though I have driven to Nainital many times but still followed the instructions as being told.

We took the Haldwani By-Pass but somewhere took wrong turn and ended up in the city again, stuck in the traffic jam. Somehow we managed to get out of it. Then, started the hill ride which was superb. Climate Temperature dropped considerably and I could feel the cool air touching my body. I felt a sense of achievement when the hill ride started that, "Yes, I have done it" because I did generate the idea of this trip. Thanks to Rahul to build upon it.

                  MAIN TIPS:
                  1) Maintain distance between the automobiles.
                  2) The vehicles coming up hill should be given preference.
                  3) Honk on the turns.
                  4) Be in your lane.
                  5) Park your bike in gear and on main stand.
                  6) Use rear brakes while turning if braking becomes necessary.

The road was awesome. NO POTHOLES. The curves were also good and tempting to unleash the leaning skills. Anyways, after an hour of riding on the hills we finally reach Nainital. Here comes a problem, BOOKING. We checked up with the Army Holiday Home and Signals Army Mess but no rooms were available. We both got fed up and then decided to stay in a hotel. Rs. 1000 for two days which is reasonable but the quality was below the satisfaction level.

Talking about our hunger for food which did turn into a wild fire, so we rushed to the restaurant nearby and the manager there could make out we were damn hungry and would add up to the profit margins of his restaurant. My menu is fixed as always: Dal Makhani, Shahi Paneer and Butter Naan. Rahul did have some confusion earlier but finally went with what I suggested (NOTE: He is very diet conscious).

In the evening Rahul and me went for a walk to the flats (The Market Area). Some photos of the lake and the flats:

                  Less crowd during season..strange!!

                  Sunshine on the cricket ground

I have been to this place many times and but whenever I see the lake its looks beautiful as always..Just love this..and I guess this lake is the heartbeat of this small city which attract tourists from not only but from abroad also..amazing...

Amazing fact: This market has got places of worship together: Gurudwara, Temple, Mosque and the Church . Unity in Diversity

                        Thanks guys for your compliments..contd..

So after a stroll in the market area and taking photographs. We went back to the Hotel to rest..errr..Sleep because we were super tired. Woke up around 7pm. Switched on the TV where as usual nothing much was interesting too see.

Rahul went on to the balcony to see the night view and feel the cool breeze of the lake city meanwhile I was going through the channels of the "Idiot Box" which did make me feel like an Idiot We had a conference to plan for the next day (12th May 2010). The outcome was that we decided to extent our trip to Binsar via Almora, Ranikhet and back to Nainital.

We discovered one more thing which is the most bugging thing on earth I guess if you are experiencing it, namely BED BUGS They bite your flesh, suck blood and vanish if you try to look for them. But fortunately they were not much in number and we could sleep.

Next morning 5 a.m. (12th May 2010), we decided to check out of the hotel because of poor quality service and start the ride towards Binsar.
The road was amazing but a bit disturbing near Almora but its negligible.
We did stop at intervals to take photographs.

                          Zor se bolo

                          Beautiful.

The road to Binsar was just awesome. We thought we are riding in Switzerland Not even a single pothole and even not a single vehicle on road. Enjoyed the ride to that place but unfortunately had to cancel the ride to Ranikhet because we didn't have much time. Finally, started our ride back to Nainital.

When we reached Naintal, we again started our hunt for a hotel with no BED BUG service . Finally got one from where the view of the lake was superb and we could even sit in the balcony to enjoy the breeze. The owner of the hotel gave a funny comment on us when he saw us fully loaded with bags and the riding gear. He said, "Chand se aa rahe ho kya??" and was trying to control my laugh, said, "Ji Binsar se aa rahe hai" We all had a good laugh. The room and the service of that hotel was excellent.
For more details of the Hotel contact Rahul.

In the evening I decided to go to the balcony and click some pictures of the view from there.

                          Sparkling water of the lake

                          Balcony

The day ended. We both sat in the balcony and had a light conversation. In the mean time, the room service guy came, asked for his tip and was given the deserving amount which made him happy We went back to our room, again watched the "Idiot Box" and slept.

Morning 6 a.m. (13th May 2010), we got up and realized that we were an hour late to start back towards Delhi. Got ready in a hurry. Rahul did the formalities with manager and did compliment him for the service. We started around 7 a.m when the sun was fairly up and the breeze was blowing as usual. Though I have been to this place many times but never wanna leave it.

On our way back we did stop at the Haldwani to have some refreshment and I clicked some photos there also.

                          The name itself is enough.

                          No rebull, only amul cool

                          Rahul's lid VEGA shadow.

Drank four bottles of Amul Kool Milk. Very refreshing. Crossed Haldwani and Rudrapur, stopped somewhere between Pantnagar and Rudrapur.

The sign board indicated THANKS FOR YOUR VISIT TO DEVBHUMI UTTARAKHAND. After reading this line we felt like we were given a good farewell Anyways, we had our breakfast at a dhaba in Pantnagar. Bread and Omelet for me. Parantha for Rahul. Silenced the demanding stomach and started to ride. We did see Bajaj service guys testing the Bajaj Discover 150. Nice to see them and the bike too.

                          Random shots

                          Way to go.

The Mighty Stallions up for their Duty JAI HIND.
The extreme heat was surely killing. Water in our bodies depleted but was topped up on time to avoid dehydration.

TIP: Plain water and ORS solution are the most important consumables to avoid dehydration during such trips irrespective of the weather. No juices or aerated drinks would be of help. Always have a medical kit in case of emergency.

Burger Time: Stopped at Gajraula Mc Donalds. Again the people sitting there were staring at us in amazement thinking are they extra-terrestrial people. The two foreigners sitting opposite to us were also quite impressed. We gobbled our burgers like greedy people, drank 2 bottles of water, 3 ice teas. Kept some water as buffer for the remaining part of the journey.

We entered Delhi around half past 4 and straight away faced heavy traffic. The honking was so hurting to my ears and bugging traffic. Our excellent and well planned trip ended at India Gate. Thanks Rahul for being a part of this trip and making it a success. I hope you like my first write up of a trip. Hope for making more trips in the near future and share it with my friends on this portal. Love being a part of this community and sharing things.

A special thanks to Aryan Da for approving my topic.

PS: The bikes performed more than what we were expecting. Bajaj is a trustworthy brand. Its not only the company to which the bike belongs, a lot depends on the rider too. Ride safe and wear a Helmet.
